Today I will show you how we eat caviar at home in Latvia. Just take one look at these beautiful little canapes and you will see why these tiny bubbles of salty goodness make any table look a bit more fancy. I grew up eating caviar, as did many of my other Russian born friends. For us it was a part of life. A thick coat of butter on top of a white bread sprinkled with caviar was prevalent at most breakfasts, lunches and even dinner parties. Caviar is fish roe, fish eggs that have been treated with salt. And there are many different types of caviar. I grew up eating mostly red caviar, as you see pictured here but black caviar was also a frequent visitor to our dinner tables. It was quite the trend in Latvia to have caviar open faced sandwiches on any dinner table in the old country.

Yeah. I'm allergic to all fish and shellfish.
All this amazing food looks delicious, especially. Would love to try for sure. Great post once again :-)
Thanks so much :)
Nice but looks sweet
I call them Massago because i eat those from Japanese foods. also a pound of that cost about $38
It's, of course a part of traditional table serving when it comes to celebrating New Year in Eastner European countries. But who liked this post, don't miss pancakes with caviar, also a must to try if ;)
heheh yes yes :))) i can do it with pancakes!!
Nut much on fish eggs but thats pretty coo;
mmmmm . so delicious
Delicious.. @allasyummyfood
Oh I miss caviar so much!! :))
Can you make them a bit less salty. If so how? I would like caviar more if you could take that excessively salty edge off.
You just need to find less salted caviar. It can be even unsalted. Salt is just used as a natural way to preserve food. But just keep in mind that less salted caviar will not hold for long ;)
no you can just get a less salty caviar!!
it looks very delicious, i want to try it if i visit there
Seems so yummi. Yes it looks aquite fancy, cool.

I am very happy to have eaten, but a dumpling would fit into my stomach. It just looks delicious.
My wife is Russian and she just loves caviar. I have tried it but I don't really like it at all! I think it is something you have to grow up with!
