Anyway, here in Canada all one needs is a bankruptcy trustee...cost a couple hundred...this isn't an option in the US?

The Trustee here in the US represents the creditor's interests not the debtor's.
They're not only not impartial, they get a cut of whatever they can recover and they're very annoyed by people who try and represent themselves.
You're way better off getting someone who's done a few hundred of them and make it as quick and painless as possible.
That's stacking the deck...but I'm not surprised at all. Thanks for getting back to me on this.
