I looked at the foam-flecked waves, I blame last nights mojitos and the myriad of recreational chemicals consumed. Only two hours of sleep, my head felt fuzzy and everything ached. I sat up. The beach stretched away, a crystal white ribbon calling me to full wakefulness.
Where am I?
Who am I?
Awakening - Day 161: 5 Minute Freewrite - Prompt: Yellow
"What do you mean baby? You don't know who you are, that's fucked up."
Her eyebrows arched as she looked at me, those umber eyes drank my soul away. I couldn't handle how much I wanted her right now.
"Just what I say, I don't even know where we are right now."
"What did you take?" Her hand came to rest on my arm, burning like fire, like sunburn in a cool sea or a pill hitting the back of the throat.
"We're in Acapulco hunny. You know what my name is right?" Brown eyes flashed, as she pulled away.
"Yeah, of course, Isabella." I lent into her and kissed her. Breasts cushioned the beat of our hearts, muffling the rib-cage speakers, a bass line running a synchronous Rubato.
I disentangled myself from her and pleaded with her, the blue of my eyes reflecting in her pupils. Where had this robbed time gone?
"And my name?" She looked at me incredulously.
"Your name is Ash." She hunched up regarding me sidelong. "You're the DJ at Mojito discotheque, you honestly don't remember?"
To be continued...
Part 1 Part 2
Sooo much better than The Archers! I want more, please.
Ha ha. Thanks Jay, ye shall have more, no fear. I am going to keep this tale going with a freewrite every few days at the least. Yes, better than The Archers... but it's missing something. I shall have to write a theme tune and put it on Dsound - that's like steemit soundcloud ;-)
The more poetry the better! Thank you for this moment of thought.
Thanks @for91days, fiction and poetry are my first writing loves, it's what I studied at university and part of what I want to do when I start travelling as freelance work. There shall be many more of these short serialized fictions along with some longer pieces and poems :-) Thanks for checking it out
You write music too? For sure - when you are done- music and reading it!!! yay!!
I haven't written music for some time. I used to write electronic music using a PC, sampler + sound module. I do play guitar, all be it, rather badly from lack of practice. Maybe I should use some funky effects etc like @snook does to create some type of sureal theme music and read out the next freewrite in the series. Thanks for checking these out @mariannewest I might not continue until Monday as I have my final part of Scuba Scribe dive report to finish today and I feel like the weekend freewite wouldn't suit this ongoing series in these early stages 🙂
sounds like a plan!
Ha! When you mentioned Quantum Leap I immediately thought of Al and Ziggy! Ash is in for quite the journey (considering the prompts this group has)!
Weekend Freewrite 3/31/18 - Single Prompt Option
Weekend Freewrite 3/31/18 - Part 1 - The First Sentence
ok, I had to add you twice! This, too, is featured in the Isle's curation post this week XD
Following the story :)
Wow that is amazing to be featured twice in the Isle's curation :-) I'm cuffed to bits. Even better that my ongoing-freewrite is so well received and seems to be hitting the fiction-sweet-spot :-)
those umber eyes drank my soul away
So yah, I totally adored this line. I also totally dig how you left the story hanging, what a wild trip your protagonist is on lol!
I liked that line as well 🙂
Funnily enough, the most impactful lines in creative writing (fiction or poetry) often come from someone/something quite personal. When I was writing this series I was in a relationship with a woman with the most soulful brown eyes ever. And that is what was going through my mind when I wrote that line. It was like her eyes drank my soul.
Because Ash is somewhat befuddled and still tripping tbh lol I added the part about 'drinking the soul away' as I felt that seemed a little more sinister, as sometimes things can seem in those sorts of altered states of consciousness.
Anyway, thanks for your comment and I'm glad you enjoyed this flash fiction @generikat
I am gonna keep them coming every day on listnerds as it is a 10 part series, that I challenged myself to write using the 5-minute freewrite prompts back in the day 🙂
It's amazing the impact our personal relationships have on our written expressions for sure, and I am so looking forward to wandering through all of your series! I would expound more but I have a track meet to get to and a graham cracker crust to bake before I do lol!
Hope you are having a glorious day!
Free writing is fun. The time limit can be frustrating at times. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, I have to admit that near to the end of this series I didn't stick strictly to the time limit lol 😉
But for the most part, the first drafts were written in 5 mins, it is just that I'm a writer as a profession outside of hive so for me not editing and redrafting just isn't in my nature 😂
I get itchy if I don't run through a 1st draft at least once correcting plot holes and checking grammar etc.
Thanks for reading rcaine, and for your comment 🙂
