RE: HI, HI, AMERICAN PIE

in #food7 years ago

Beautiful apple pie! I went to the apple orchard last weekend and got apples and cider. But, I made hard cider! You can see where my priorities are!

Sort:

Um....ok obviously my priorities are in the WRONG place. I need to know how to make hard cider, because I'm definitely going back to the orchard this season. Have you made a post on it? If not please tell me your recipe!!

Here is a post to give you a rough idea. I wrote it for home brewers of beer so I did not explain everything. But "everything" is really easy. I'll collect a bit more information and send it to you. But, be warned! Even brewing a small one gallon batch of cider at home can lead you down a rabbit hole. Soon your garage or basement will be transformed into a micro brewery!

Sorry for the delay! Crazy busy week! If you want to make hard cider here are some things that you will need, besides what I wrote in the hard cider post below.

  1. A one gallon fermenter with an air lock. http://www.northernbrewer.com/small-batch-fermentor
  2. Hydrometer (only if you care about knowing the exact alcohol content) http://www.northernbrewer.com/lab-grade-hydrometer-1-000-1-070
  3. Syphon http://www.northernbrewer.com/auto-siphon-1-2
  4. Syphon tubing http://www.northernbrewer.com/1-2-id-siphon-hose
  5. Bottle filler http://www.northernbrewer.com/spring-tip-bottle-filler
  6. Bottle capper and some caps http://www.northernbrewer.com/fermenters-favorite-royal-crown-bottle-capper
  7. A basic brew book for reference http://www.northernbrewer.com/how-to-brew-by-john-palmer-4-edition
  8. A no-rinse sanitizer http://www.northernbrewer.com/star-san

This is all you need to brew. The book will give you basic instructions about how to add a little sugar before bottling so that the cider carbonates while in the bottle...
Let me know if you ever make some cider or if you have any specific questions about the process!
