Apple picking season has arrived and made sure to make an early season trip to the farm.
We picked empire apples, an early variety here in the mid-atlantic.
I'm looking forward to later season varieties, but for now, here's some pie for your viewing pleasure.
Such a simple dish, but so much comfort.
Homemade crust is almost as easy as store bought: Flour, cold butter, salt, and cold water. Done and done.
Before baking, the lattice is all situated.
Brushing some lightly beaten egg on the crust will make it all pretty when it's done in the oven.
If you don't already have one of these handy apple corer/slicer/peelers, and you EVER want to make apple pie or any other apple or pear dessert for that matter, it's the best $20 you'll spend.
Cinnamon, brown sugar, lemon juice, vanilla, a few tablespoons of flour, and a few pats of butter get tossed with the apples before they pile into the crust.
Vanilla ice cream - brought over by friends on a last- minute emergency stop (once they heard there was apple pie).

AHH this is perfect. I need a pie like this in my life soon. Empire is always one of the best for pies. Beautiful crustjob
Thanks dude :) Go picking and make one! Do you have apples near you? Don't forget the ice cream, or if you do, invite friends and have them pick it up on the way to your house :)
I do have a several orchards nearby and the best time is now. However I could never replicate a pie so aesthetically pleasing
Looks scrumptious 😊 thanks for sharing
Thanks @lolzwithlisa :) It's met it's fate and there is none left. Bahh!! I'm trying to stop crying ;)
That's a very lovely pie. The lattice design is perfect. I wish we had places where we could pick our own. Apple is one of my favorite pies to make. I usually mix brown sugar, flour, and butter to do a streusel and sprinkle it on the top. The brown sugar caramelizes and is so good.
Woah that's a great idea. I'm going to have to try that - do you put the crust on top also? So it's crust-->apples-->crust-->streusel?
Yeah. I'd make a pie exactly like you do but with streusel on top. Crust on the bottom, apples, then crust on the top. The crust is my favorite part so lots of streusel. Picture is of my last pie. Not my prettiest work but it was fully covered with crust and I smeared the top crust with streusel.
Yesss! This is amazing - I can't wait to try the addition. The crust is my fave too!
OMG I forgot all about apple picking season. Use to go to apple orchards as a kid when we lived north. I will admit thought I loved getting pumpkins fresh off a farm far better. You would often see some crazy ones growing up there.
I really wish this household would make fresh apple pie. They have a thing for the artificial tasting store bought ones. I find they taste of nasty chemical that they love so much they don’t want the real thing anymore.
Ahh! Wean them off the artificial stuff and have them come over to the good side! I can't wait for pumpkin picking! I love all the crazy looking gourds - ones with bumps and all shapes and sizes.
I wish, I fear for their taste buds that for sure. They looove their junk food and anything that gives them that fake lab taste. I swear its an addiction.
Still can't get that fake chemical taste out of my mind when thinking about store bought apple pie!!!!!!
We been thinking next of maybe getting an Orange tree or two. That might be my chance of finding something nice and home made to cook with them. While we where also thinking of an apple tree our soil is not that great for them.
Crabgrass love it not much else. I just want tear up the lawn and make some food gardens.
OMG this looks so good! I need apple pie like STAT now. Thank you so much for sharing.
Yeahhh! It's such a treat to make this time of year and share with friends. One of the best things about fall, in my opinion!! :))
This looks mouth-watering delicious! :D
Since I promised my friends to make american apple pie the next time they'll invite me, I searching your other recipes for this great classic. I have one on my own. But I will compare it with yours. Maybe this time I will try a new one. Am I blind or is there no recipe in this post? :D
What kind of apples work best for apple pie in your opinion?
Thanks for sharing! Your posts are of high quality! :)
I'll post the recipe today for you!!
Hi my friend! It looks so delicious! Yummy! Sometimes i have a lot of apples at home, and i don't know what i will prepare with them, so this recipe it's great , and it looks so attractive.
Happy Sunday.
Thanks @creativewoman! This is a fun way to use a LOT of apples, and get the great flavors of fall all together. My kids love it too, of course!
Beautiful apple pie! I went to the apple orchard last weekend and got apples and cider. But, I made hard cider! You can see where my priorities are!
Um....ok obviously my priorities are in the WRONG place. I need to know how to make hard cider, because I'm definitely going back to the orchard this season. Have you made a post on it? If not please tell me your recipe!!
Here is a post to give you a rough idea. I wrote it for home brewers of beer so I did not explain everything. But "everything" is really easy. I'll collect a bit more information and send it to you. But, be warned! Even brewing a small one gallon batch of cider at home can lead you down a rabbit hole. Soon your garage or basement will be transformed into a micro brewery!

Sorry for the delay! Crazy busy week! If you want to make hard cider here are some things that you will need, besides what I wrote in the hard cider post below.
This is all you need to brew. The book will give you basic instructions about how to add a little sugar before bottling so that the cider carbonates while in the bottle...
Let me know if you ever make some cider or if you have any specific questions about the process!
Rebecca made an apple pie last night that was half as pretty but just as tasty, I'm sure. I love apple pie for breakfast.
yyuummyy and tasty food and good working my friend 😍
Nice post, and thanks for including the mandatory vanilla ice cream!!!
