Cajun Black Bean and Chorizo Dirty Rice

in #food7 years ago

There are definitely occasions that call for the most expensive and fancy foods, but in day to day life it's nice to have beans and rice sometimes. I’m pretty sure that basically every culture has some form or other of this staple meal because, let’s face it, it’s cheap.

I don’t know about you but I happen to love beans and rice. When I was little my dad used to make the Zatarain’s Cajun box mixes all the time so those flavors are really nostalgic and warm fuzzy for me and now it’s probably my favorite way to eat beans and rice.

The way I see it, if you can master the art of making beans and rice taste amazing with minimal ingredients then your pretty much set for life in the cooking department. I know I added the chorizo to mine, because the truth is that it adds so much more flavor that way, but you could totally go meatless with this recipe and it would still be amazing. It’s all in the spices here.

This is a great meal to make for a big group or just a budget friendly weeknight dinner that makes great leftovers. In fact it gets better leftover. Make a big huge pot of it and freeze the extra for later or invite some friends over and show off your mad skills with making simple ingredients into a from-scratch meal with unrivaled flavor.

Just about to sign off and this popped up in my feed! My all time favorite! Thxs for sharing recipe! Following... :)

Oh, it's my pleasure @missiontothemoon. Thanks!

How spicy is this? I am a lightweight? I can eat chorizo with eggs for example. It looks yummy!

Well, the spice will depend a lot on how spicy your sausage is so I'd suggest using a mild type. Thanks for reading @jjsolley.

Great food pictures. It's making me very hungry right now. I think what I like most about your cajun black bean and chorizon dirty rice is that it doesn't seem to be that dry. Usually, most variations of it that I have seen and tasted tend to be somewhat dry. Your version seems to almost have a risotto like level of moisture. :)

Thanks @rockjon, nad this is a very soft and fluffy way to make it as it calls for plenty of broth as you make it.

Muy practico y a la vez nutritivo genial

Absolutamente, mi amiga. Gracias por leer @sami88

Hey Gringalicious - This was a very, very cool post...the food looks delicious. I am TOTALLY with you when you say there are occasions that call for a fancy expensive meal but then there are times that you just want to make nice, home cooked, comfort food. There's nothing that I enjoy more than hot dogs and mac & cheese...gets me every time.

My only question to you is: Why take so many pictures, you're food is going to get cold ?!

jk jk - Keep the great posts coming!!

PS - I am leaving right now with my girlfriend to go get eat out at a fancy, expensive restaurant...it's one of those occasions that you spoke about, lol :).

Thanks again!

Haha, thanks for reading my comedic friend. Enjoy your dinner and I hope to see you around here more @jackthar1ppir!

I learned to cook in Louisana about 30 years ago. I like your recipe and the thought of using chorizo instead of Andouille for a change.
Your recipe for Cajun seasoning looks ok except You forgot the cayenne pepper. All cajun seasoning has some cayenne, some more, some less!

Great tip @ewspears! Thanks for letting me know because you're right. I simply prefer my food less spicy so I leave it out. Thanks

That looks absolutely delicious! I love beans and rice, and chorizo just makes everything tastier! This is the first one of your posts that I read and I think the photography is great. I also have recipes to share and I will definitely get some inspiration from your photos when the time comes to take pics for my posts. Cheers!

Thanks @livewell! Good luck with your food photos in the future!

That looks delicious!!!! Maybe i'll give it a try.

Thanks @soccericon. Welcome to steemit. This is a great way to start, keep commenting and make sure you do a fantastic intro post.

Thank you I have already posted and tried my best to let my passion for soccer do the work

Wow! That looks like a hearty filling meal! I'm somewhat of a cooking novice. Can this be done with a crockpot?

absolutely!! ( DON'T tell anybody ) I like crockpot cooking. I can't openly admit that in the food blogging world, so please don't tell

Looks sooo good! We just mentioned you in our last post! If you don't have the time to check it out we pretty much said we hope we can create/ take photoshoots like you in our upcoming segments!

Thanks so much for the mention, I really do appreciate it!!! Keep doing the fantastic work and you'll do great here

Awww, thank you so much @lucy-and-dan! That's so sweet of you.

Nothing better than some Louisiana home cooking. What I miss about leaving Texas. The great restaurants that serve Cajun food. Thanks for your recipes. 🐓🐓

You are so welcome @mother2chicks. I hope you give it a try sometime

Mouthwatering. I'm drooling right now

I am so glad you liked it @limansyahap. Perhaps you'll give it a try someday?

Thanks for sharing this! I just upvoted you

My grandma used to cook a chorizo rice with tomato (due to her age she don't cook now), it's so yummy delicious!! From times to times I prepare it too, it's cheap and so flavored!! The aromas...hummm, amazing. Guess if I had beans it will enrich my recipe as I love rice and beans together!! Great idea! :))

I'm glad this inspired you @liliana.duarte!

I love black beans and rice!! ♥♥
As for the chorizo, I'll use some veggie sausage :) Thanks for another great recipe :)

veggie sausage works too, you should put your own spin on it and post it. I've probably said that before

For sure I'll make a post about it when I try one of your recipes ♥

Love it! Agreed many cultures have some form of this staple dish. I personally love a good rice and bean dish! Thanks for sharing this :)
