RE: I don't taste food while I cook.

Somehow I missed this reply.

I've considered looking into making sauces on a large scale. I'm just so busy with day to day life that It's hard to find make the time to look into what would be needed to achieve this. I'm broke as, so it somewhat limits my options. That being said it's really something I should spend some time on. I very much like the idea of being self employed.

A-ha!

You know what your reply reminds me of?

A while ago, someone asked me what I would do if I could do anything and never fail. I said I was going to write an awesome novel. She then asked for what was stopping me

I think I'm like you in that regard. The only thing stopping me was money. I felt I couldn't leave my current source of income to focus on the novel. I also felt the novel might not pay enough to justify the expenses. Even at this time, I'm yet to start.

But I think we can start small. The two of us. I don't know how it works in your country but you could start small. Who knows, the money might come in too. I've decided to begin the first chapter of my novel today

Eruka!

You just gave me an idea for my first post for today

Blessings

It's funny you say that. I actually started writing my novel and posting it here. It was pretty much a rough draft, as I didn't know that I could edit posts for my first month or so. But I don't really think that Steemit with a seven day reward window is the right place to do it. I've been thinking of reediting my old posts and finish the current chapter and post it as a single unit here. It could be sort of a sneak peak of sorts, without compromising my ability to publish in the future.

The sauce thing is more of an "obtainable" in the near future goal rather than a dream. I would much rather create worlds and tell stories. Like If I didn't have to worry about money for my family in the short term I would totally spend 6+ hours a day trying to hone my writing skills, crafting worlds and lives. I think we are pretty similar in that way. :)

I really enjoy your style of writing, it's very lively. Unfortunately I don't have the time to read as much of the things I would like to. But after reading your story about the devils pin, I knew that I have to follow if only to be able to check back from time to time to see what wonderful stories you were creating.

Have a lovely day. Thanks for the encouragement.

Wow I didn't see these messages. I actually wish Steemit gave you a notice of reply or something when either it's a comment on your blog or in a comment tree you're a part of.

Like, if person A says something, B responds, and C responds to B.. the way it works is A doesn't get any notification (I don't think), but they might be interested and C might even be kind of talking to them.

But ya, I think putting a sneak peak on here and publishing it for purchase would be the way to go.

I think Steem could be used well in that sense, where it's like now people have a way to interact with the author, and they know that if they buy your book they can also ask you questions about things etc.

I agree, it would be super nice if this was built in. I wouldn't be surprised if someone has made/is coding a bot to do this.

These are the sort of the wonderful uses for bots. Like Steemit would be much harder if not for @ginabot.

Again, I agree. Would be pretty cool being able to interact with an author. I just wish that rewards were set up a bit differently. Imagine being able to interact with an Author as the story is being created. It would be like a somewhat interactive novel. Perhaps a third party app, like a d.tube type thing could be set up for writings that was made in a way that rewards could continue beyond the 7 day mark. I don't know if it would be feasible or not, but it would be really cool.

I know most of the time I would like to spend writing I usually spend "mining" on steemit. It would be awesome to have a sort of crowd funded writing mechanism. The finished work would be free for everyone(maybe some sort of a fee for an official hard copy or a jazzed up e-book), but the process would be paid by those who helped contribute to the author's writing.

Seems to make sense to me. But I'm just not sure that it will/could be implemented here on steemit. My guess is that one day a platform will do this, and it could really be a bit of a game changer. It would be a communal publishing house type thing.

Ya, wow.

It's too bad Steemit isn't naturally better for novels, but it does seem it could be used in ways that are interesting. (Like it's not the optimal solution for novels on the blockchain, but you could potentially find ways to do things that work well.)

I don't know if you're looking for something more elaborate, but you could vaguely do it by voting in comments section for what happens next, like each comment is an option and you go by amount of votes or SP.

Or you could do funkier things too, like the author needs to be re-elected or someone else starts writing the next chapter.

I think it works totally good as a game, but not really a great mechanism to get a good novel lol, it's just a few people clicking buttons sending it where they want to

@accio has actually started a steemit interactive story. It's pretty neat although I have not read the second part yet. I'm hoping to later tonight. Your comment reminded me of it. It's solid writing, and a bit of fun. Like the old interactive books that would say, to do x turn to page 123, and to do y turn to page 158.

thanks! gonna check it out

hmm I wonder if also you could do something like...

release really small amounts of it at a time, like maybe even sentences at a time. And you give a few options (maybe lots of options). And people vote on the next sentence.

And then it's like they're literally writing the book, but through your lens of choosing the wording, and the range of options.

I was actually thinking of a less interactive approach. More of being able to talk to and ask questions, to the author as it's being written. The sole discretion would still be up to the author to choose what direction the story would go, but I certainly would be "influenced" by an engaged audience. Who knows where the story would go with so many heads actively living in the "world" of said story.

I think that it could be possible to create a third party app that people could vote on old content (and ongoing story) but it would "actually" go to like a comment that was made by the author elsewhere.

Lol it might look like shenanigans happening on some random post, but in reality it could work as a way to continue funding a ongoing work. I'm not sure if this at all is making sense to you or not. I'm pretty sure that it would require heavy use of bots or some sort of voting system that could redirect the vote to a post that is still in the seven day window.

I don't know how people would view such a system the works around the seven day limit, but I think it would certainly inspire writers to actually focus on quality as apposed to quantity. "Evergreen" material would be allowed an opportunity to be rewarded.

It's a thought, unfortunately I lack the time and resources to try to attempt something like this myself. But I fear that once other blockchain backed sites start popping up, and do offer a means for this to happen, Steemit inc will wish that they had a way to hold onto their best writers. I think that it could be huge, if done correctly.

Right! That's what I figured you meant at first. When you mentioned the "crowd funded mechanism" I wasn't sure if you also were thinking of ways for the crowd to be involved in the writing.

But ya, the interacting and the author seeing the comments and questions is interesting in its own right and would potentially influence the author.

Interesting idea.

Right. I think people would definitely understand and support the spirit of it (even where it's working around the 7-day thing). I wonder about how it goes into action. I'd presume the Steemit blockchain would need to "cling on" to a post or comment of the author within 7 days, in order to have any way to issue rewards. So it would redirect your vote on the old thing to be a vote and reward on the new thing.

I guess another option is like the author, probably thru a bot, would make a post like "rewards for Novel" every 7 days, and all the votes go there. (And they'd probably want to do it on a separate account to segregate the useless posts, if they have followers on their normal account.)

Not sure.

The more I think of this, the more I like it.

I may have to try something like this out, but more of a game style of story telling. I could set up a story and then give options of dialog or actions and let the voters choose the path the protagonist goes.

It could be really fun. Probably not "novel" quality, but totally worth a try. No point in pining over what could be if the system allowed it, when I can try something that will work with the system we do have.

I think, I'm going to give it a go.

Neat, awesome!! I'll play along for sure.

but more of a game style of story telling

ya, exactly, a game more than it's likely to actually produce a great novel. Maybe Steemit is magic tho we'll see 🤓

I think this thread is rather getting long

I'm headed over to your blog to see this wonder talk about

See you there

If you do get the time to read it, I would love to hear any feedback.
