Hello Steemian Friends,
How are you all? All good we hope! It's been another hot sunny day in Bangkok, the Summer is starting here. We actually saw a picture the other day on a news article saying how this week in Bangkok was going to get hotter and hotter. The way they pictured it was in the solar system, usually the correct way is Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth etc, however in the news article it was: Sun, Bangkok, Mercury, Venus, Earth, etc. Anyway, the point is that it's HOT!!
Today it's another Tasty Tuesday's, and in honour of tasty food and heat we thought it best to talk about ice cream! Not any Ice Cream though. You guessed it, Coconut Ice Cream!!
Our Love For Ice Cream
Ice Cream is something that most people love, specially on hot days! For Becca, eating ice cream has been thrown out of the window since about 5 years ago due to her lactose intolerance. She would often opt for sorbets or just the water lollies like Calipo, Fruit Pastels, Rocket Lollies, that sort of kind. She never complained, they were often even her first choice over ice cream. She did and still misses Magnum Almond, mmmmm! Sam's favourite is an Italian one, called Limonice, a lemon sorbet on a liquorice stick. There was no waste (apart from the wrapping) as he would eat everything! A lot of his childhood was spent in Italy so he of course ate a lot of Gelato too, which he also loves, but Limonice brings back a lot of his favourite memories from Italy.
Nutty For The Coco
In Bangkok, we still eat ice cream, but all the flavours are different (more tropical and exotic flavours on offer). These flavours can be anything from Taro, Mangosteen, Durian to Custard Apple. One of the things that Becca loved when she arrived in Thailand was that she discovered she could eat Coconut Ice Cream, and not worry about any lactose in it. Coconut Ice Cream is now like a super amazing sweet treat to give to ourselves, specially appreciated on these hot days! Yet, it's high in calories, so definitely a treat!
When we get our Coconut Ice Cream, close to the house, it is sprinkled with peanuts, and then we can choose to have toppings like sweet corn, jelly, small sticky rice balls, red beans, and at the end it is drizzled with evaporated milk. Becca always opts out of the evaporated milk (contains lactose) as well as the corn, jelly and beans. Sam usually chooses the peanuts, sticky rice balls and the evaporated milk drizzled over.
The best part of it all, apart from the ice cream itself, is that it is served inside the coconut shells :)
Hope you have enjoyed our post! Time for Ice Cream anyone?!

Wow ,,,,,,,, very very nice coconut food
Coconut can be used in many things, but we like it as an ice cream! Delicious and it cools you down on a hot day. Thanks for your comment! :)
nice ,,,,,baby
Thanks....baby
One thing I would like to recommend you to try with the coconut ice-cream. Egg yolk! LOL, it's rare though to find a place that serves this nowadays. The type of ice-cream called 'i-tim khai khang'
i-tim : ice-cream
khai - egg
khang - hard
The way they do it is crack the egg and pour just egg yolk into the coconut ice-cream tank. Mix it around in the pile of ice-cream so the yolk get frozen in seconds and there you go 'egg yold coconut ice-cream'
Weird as hell, I know. LOLOL
We would associate 'Khai Khang' as boiled egg instead of the egg having a runny yolk, but we guess that is 'Khai Thom'. Anyway, we haven't tried that yet. It will be a novelty for us. Sam would try it, but Becca will probably give it a pass.
So, does it add anything to the flavour? It's just the colour and extra protein? 😜
Thanks for the comment and the insider tips! 😉

Not much of the flavours added up though the texture! and yes you're right! colour and protein LOLOL
And yes the texture must be slightly different. Still why not? Give it a go one day 😊

Thanks @trufflepig - keep sniffing out for those rare truffles!
It looks so yummy! I like the ball as well!
I am a lactose sufferer as well and have been avoiding everything dairy until I found out that fatty dairy is manageable. The more fat the less lactose in the product. It was pretty much trial and error until I found the products I can handle. Now I eat hard cheese, mascarpone and double cream (single is no go). And the condensed milk is a complete killer... So maybe Becca can handle small amount of lactose as well - just think fat!
It was very yummy - you should try it if you are also a lactose sufferer. We know there is a place in Soho, London that does dairy-free ice cream and even peanut-free peanut butter ice cream. Forget its name now.
Anyway, thank you for letting us know of your trial and error process with lactose products. Becca says she doesn't miss dairy products and actually thinks it has helped her lose a bit of weight as a bonus. There are of course items she misses from time to time like a simple cheese toastie! 😋

Hi, You know in Thailand...We believe that drinking coconut water should drink at noon. It's sweeter than at night. ^ ^
Ah really! Didn't know this fact. Thanks for letting us know and we'll try that out. Maybe it's to do with the sun ☀️
Thanks for your comment! 😊
