Scout - Freewrite

I got kicked out of the Boy Scouts.

True Story.

I'd been in the Boy Scouts for about a month.

I loved collecting things, so I thought the badges were really cool.

We were going to go camping.

Everyday we learned how to tie knots and do other outdoors kind of things that could earn you badges.

I was really excited when the day came to get on the bus and head out.

I got on the back of the bus and started talking with some older boys.

Eventually we made it to the campsite and started setting up.

Everyone sat around and talked. It was really boring.

We pulled out a few cans of beans that were going to be heated up on a tiny little barbecue pit and then eaten.

Terrible.

I got up by myself and wandered around the camp looking for something to do.

Is that steak I smell?

I went down a little trail and down and down some more.

Steak smell getting stronger.

I probably walked for about 20 minutes before I found the campsite.

Some adults were cooking various types of meat. They had tents setup with really comfortable chairs and all kinds of things like cereal and portable TVs.

They had an RV which was like a little house too.

There were several guys and several extraordinary pretty girls.

We laughed and talked and drank sodas and ate cereal...... and they made me a couple of shish kabobs.

It was a great night.

I wandered back after dark and fell down on my sleeping bag. I was out like a light.

In the morning several people were sitting around my sleeping bag waiting for me to wake up.

They were mad.

I guess people had gone looking for me when they couldn't find me.

Well they should have made camping fun, I argued.

How else are you going to keep someone interested in staying there instead of wanting to go do something with someone else?

My argument did not win the case.

On the other hand, maybe it did win the case.

I got kicked out of the Boy Scouts...... and I think I saved myself a lot of boring times.

I never even got one badge.
