Not likely but Microsoft's new console is packing some punch.
The Electronics Entertainment Expo, E3, has left many things to be excited for in its wake. Not only for this holiday season but for next year as well. One of which, is the unveiling of the long-awaited Project Scorpio by Xbox. In typical Xbox fashion, the new console has been named Xbox One X, instead of Xbox Two. Microsoft has come a long way since the release of the first Xbox in 2001. Long gone are the days of bulky consoles and even more bulbous controllers. The new console has been deemed the most powerful console in the world. Still doesn’t contend with PC, “the master race” but for those of us that are PC illiterate, the Xbox One X is the next best thing. The overhaul will have features that even the PC world won’t easily turn their nose up at. The console is set to be released November 7. Winter is coming and it looks beautiful!
Processing Power
The new console will come equipped with 6 Teraflops, 12 GB of GDDR5 memory at 326 GB/s compared to the Xbox One only rocking 1.31 Teraflops, 8 GB of DDR3 at 63.3 GB/s, quite a big difference. Translated to English that means that games can be made in 4K and drastically lower load times for games. Not only that, games that are out now can be enhanced to look better. Which will be awesome for the added backward compatible that are soon to be released. This just means that I will have to get a 4K TV in the near future.
4K Gaming
With all that processing power, we can expect some beautiful games to experience. This also will give developers to be more ambitious with their titles. I remember when 4K first hit the scene. I was excited while others were skeptical. Mainly thinking that it meant TV’s would just go up in price. Which they did but once improvements and material cost went down so did the price. Especially with plasma and tube televisions becoming a thing of the past High-Definition televisions have become the standard. I see the next shift happening once we come across something to replace LED pixels, probably not going to happen within the next few years. A great feature being able to game in 4K will be the ability to enhance games that were not made in 4K. Some exclusive titles will already be made in 4K for the release of the new console. With all these advancements, I’m curious to see more implementation of AR and VR.
Price
No surprise that the new console will come with a hefty price point of $499. If past console releases are any indication, this console will drop in price within the year following its release. The Xbox One can be purchased brand new for $250, Kinect not included. I would want nothing more than to buy the console the day it is released but with my experience with buying the Xbox One the day of release, I think I’ll wait. Bugs and technical issues are expected to occur when releasing a console of this magnitude. Like the Xbox One, I expect these issues to be addressed quickly and vigorously. I could be completely wrong and the console could go off without a hitch but I’ll remain hesitant at least until this time next year.
Since I love gaming as a whole, I never got involved with the “Holy Wars” when it came to the consoles. I respect all consoles. This is NOT a jab at any of the other consoles. Xbox is the one I stuck with for its community and customer support. Also, since they were the first to make high bandwidth internet mandatory.
Thank you for your attention!

Microsoft Xbox 1X: X edition, now with 2x more X's
With so many X's how can you not be X-cited!? lol
The problem is that consoles are ridiculously (and always) much far behind PCs, I mean yes this new console will be a bump up from the Xbox one, but you have to consider that you can build a small bare-bones PC like the Brix VR One and have significantly better performance, albeit for a slightly higher cost. Another thing, there are significantly more reasons to buy a PC:
These are just to name two, but yeah I think PC's will always be "Master Race" Just due to the many uses, and the fact that the tech is always ahead by several years. ( I mean the 1080ti has a memory speed of 11gbps)
on a side note I want to say memory definitely isn't everything you should look at the Cuda/Rendering cores and their clock speed.
All valid points and I agree 100%. You have to consider that most of the population are not tech savvy enough to build their own computer that will operate seamlessly and be as user-friendly. If you don't know any backend navigation on a PC you're wasting your money. I am speaking from a more general standpoint. Too many factors would have to come into play for PC to be knocked from it's thrown and it was a mistake, on my part, to not mention that in my article. I'm still learning to write in a blog format so I tend to leave things out. That's why I love this community though. Thank you for your insight.
Oh dude your article was still good mate, considering it made me take the time to make a long reply like that! No one will ever write the perfect article there are always too many factors, just keep doing what you're doing and you'll be awesome here 😀 plus you're absolutely right about the building thing however, prebuilt PCs are much better these days (unlike 10 years ago) and usually cater to gamers. But yeah dude keep up the good work!! 😀😃😊
Thank you for the encouraging words! I'm still getting used to this blogging thing and have been wanting to do it for a while now. Steemit seemed like the most legitimate way of doing it. Plus the community here is awesome! I'll definitely keep at it. With the way, technology is advancing prebuilt computers will bring more computer-illiterate people into the beauty of PC gaming without abondoning their consoles. I think the versatility with ease of multitasking that you had mentioned will be a major selling point as well.
While I admit that it indeed a power house of a machine, it doesn't seem like a necessary step up at this point. This is something that only true die hard Xbox fans will consider getting. Most people haven't even made the big switch to 4k t.v.'s yet. Microsoft is too far in the future right now, i think that they should have held this back until next year. I will say that original Xbox compatibility is a plus though, and I can't wait to see that take flight. Finally a great decision with no foreseeable backlash. Great Post
I agree that Microsoft is playing in the future at the moment. I think that they want to be leading the charge, when it comes to 4K, since they were late to the party when this whole HD adventure started. Sony took a big risk and leap into the future with the release of their Blu-Ray and look how that turned out for them. Microsoft might be a bit of the same with a more safe approach. I'm really excited for the backward compatibility though.
For some time, the XBOX ONE X will be a good choice for people who want to game in 4K who are on a budget, but just wait a year or two and it will again be obsolete.
True but that's how it has always been with consoles. The only thing that changes is the timeline. The quicker technology advances, the quicker consoles will become obsolete without upgrades or complete changes.
I love both PC gaming and console gaming. I don't think that PC has a contender in the Xbox one X. The die hard Xbox fans will probably get it but most console gamers already own a "next-gen" console and PC gamers are not going to abandon their PC in favor of the new Xbox. If only MS had released this console instead of the Xbox one, then maybe things would have been different.
I like both as well and I agree that PC gamers will not abandon their PCs for a console. Nor should they. It was a mistake on my part to not mention something about that in the article but still a noob blogger who loves gaming. I am curious to see what Microsoft does with Windows 10. I would like to see some cross-platform action but a controller pales in comparison to a mouse and keyboard. Only time will tell. Thank you for your perspective.
