Nature teaches us that there is time for everything, and that includes time for sleep.
Sleep is vital for our health and development, just like eating, breathing and drinking. The human body is designed for rest and work, excess work and sleep are detrimental to the body and can lead to the body breaking down. The amount of sleep we get daily affects our stress and our mental levels, and which in turn affects our productivity and concentration.
Even our factory machines have their start up and shut down time, how much more the human body. Each time we have a good sleep, we wake up feeling better. The body heals during sleep and helps us maintain a healthy hormone. Most cases of heart attack, high blood pressure, diabetes, are related sleep deprivation.
Sleep is affected by a compound called adenosine. The level of adenosine in our brain continues to increases while we are awake and while we sleep, the body breaks down adenosine.
Sleep improves learning and problem solving ability. Most times when we sleep over a problem, we find inspiration on how to go about it the following day.
An adult needs 7 to 8 hours of sleep in a day. Teenagers and children need more hour of sleep than adults.
Tips to improve sleep habits
Develop a sleep schedule and keep to routine.
Limit your working time.
Practice meditation before going to bed. Avoid energetic workouts and stay off bright artificial light, from television or computer screen. Such light may sent a different signal to the brain to be awake.
Avoid heavy meals few hours to bedtime.
Keep your sleeping area quiet, cool, and neat
Doctors advice to take a sleep between 10 pm to 2 am as it is very good for health. It doesn't mean that wake up after 2. But try to include these hours during sleep.
I agree. The latest I go to bed now is 9:30pm and by the time it's 2am, I feel well rested. I fall back asleep though and feel groggy at 6am and don't want to wake up. Weird...
@introvert-dime, really? I never knew those hours are important. But i'll like to know the reason for that though.
@best gift, thanks for educating us on the importance of sleep. I think another way one can improve sleep habits is getting rid of worries and anxieties. I personally find it hard to sleep when I am worried
These hours are very important to sleep because at that time body goes through increase in melatonin production which is associated with the metabolic activities of our body.
I usually wake up right after 2a.m. every night. Usually go to sleep for a couple more hours.
Sleep is so important! I didn't value my sleep until my toddler came along. He sleeps through the night now, but I still find myself waking up to go to the bathroom, getting a drink of water or checking on him. Does the sleep have to be straight or waking up in the middle of the night is normal?
Hola @bestgift, muy buen post, estoy de acuerdo, el sueño es vital para la salud en todo el sentido de la palabra.
''Sleep is vital for our health and development, just like eating, breathing and drinking''
If you stop sleeping or jump to many nights, you'll start having hallucination, you'll get paranoid very easily. After a few weeks it will become difficult to talk and to literally do anything. As you'll be exhausted it will be difficult to do anything (so you eat less and less) until the point where you have 2 solutions.
First solution, you don't do anything and you end up at the psychiatric hospital or you simply start sleeping again and getting back the sleep you missed. At the end of the story sleeping boost your productivity !
So yeah sleeping is really important... As eating and our environment.
One more sub by the way !
yest, Sleep i very important for our life, sleep save the health of our hearts, and give rest of our brains, we should have sleep at least 6-8 hour a day, and give power to helps us to do our work in the best performance.
Sleep is very important in human body......we must sleep at least for 8 hours in a day.....nice post
My friend is not easy. I have not slept well for a month. If it's not the dogs barking, it's the cats running around the rooftops. If it is not a party at full volume or if the electricity is not going away. Anyway, I'm fucked at any time. If I manage to sleep two hours in total it is gain. Greetings from Venezuela by the way

I haven't been having good sleeps these days. And as a medical student, i know it is very bad for my health. I'm even realizing the side effects of sleep deprivation. But i have a lot of big books to read.
But the truth be told, it is really good to sleep very well, at least 6-8 hours a day.
Sleep is important for our health.
I love that post... I´m completely agree. I always count my time to sleep before to go bed

Great Post!
Thanks for the tips for improving sleep patterns. The television can keep me awake.
I once heard someone say that an hour's sleep before midnight is worth two after. I wonder if that's true?
the need of time changes considerably with age and even, when they talk about sleeping from 9 to 2am, it is simply for late adults or early teenagers, nor teenagers, except children should sleep so little.
@bestgift I can relate to this so much! I also wrote a blog post just now on habits and one of them was building good sleep hygiene. I think this is more important than ever before and often underlooked. Technology and digital media unfortunately consumes us during our bedtimes and can wreak havoc on our circadian sleep rhythms. It's important to practice meditation, keep the room cool and neat like you said. I like to read before sleeping.
I am just now working on overhauling my sleeping routine after forming some poor habits over the last couple of years, using my phone and other digital media which made me go to sleep and wake up much later than natural and left me feeling moody and tired having woke up at noon.
