200000 steps in 24 days

Is it achievable ? How about an app built on #hive doing similar ?

It all started from a small notification popping up on my phone, prompting me to join the Samsung Health’s ‘Walk-a-thon India’ Challenge, and I accepted the challenge even though I was late to the party.

From January 30 to February 28, 2025, embark on a 30-day journey to complete 200,000 steps and discover the joy of walking together while competing with fellow participants. Powered by Samsung Health’s ‘Together’ feature, this challenge isn’t just about fitness—it’s about fostering a sense of community, healthy competition, and personal achievement.

Why Join the Challenge?

Walking isn’t just a workout; it’s a way to rejuvenate your mind and body. With the Walk-a-thon India challenge, Samsung Health makes tracking your steps and achieving fitness goals easy and rewarding. You’ll get access to a real-time leaderboard, allowing you to measure your progress against others and stay motivated.

Since I have been already doing regular exercise, I thought, this would be a perfect opportunity to measure my daily activity. Even though, I am not a big fan of digital gadgets ( three lucky winners to win Galaxy Watch Ultra), I liked the way they advertised - measure our progress against others and stay motivated - hitting people's sentiment works better than big prizes. I am self motivated but at times, it feels nice to see how we are doing against others. All it needed was to install the Samsung Health app and opt into the ‘Walk-a-thon India’ challenge in the ‘Together’ section, which was pretty simple. So even though the challenge started on January 30, I participated from 5th February, loosing six days, but since my goal was to truly measure myself, I was not worried, but I did not want to give up as well.

So for two weeks, I have been able to hit my step target, and got a badge, hitting an average in the top ten percent.

Screenshot_11_Samsung Health.jpg

That includes a day on which I did not do any exercise but went to work in the garden.

Screenshot_3_Samsung Health.jpg

Screenshot_4_Samsung Health.jpg

So with nine more days remaining, most likely I will be able to hit the target, even though there is no bonus for achieving in less number of days.

But apart from those prizes, it truly feels amazing to see the statistics that motivates us - this is from today, screen shot taken as I am writing this post.

Can't we do this on #hive ? I am sure, we can, with DHF Fundings and a little niche marketing that would hit the sentiment of the biggest community of world, but we need a better app like this. I know, you will tell me we have @actifit , but I did give it a try as well.

The Samsung Health App keeps running forever, but the Actifit Android app shuts down, if I exist out of the app ( by clicking back button twice). Ideally, it should run in the background or ask the user, if they want to stop measuring their activity for the day. And interestingly the notification keeps showing up, even though the app is shut down.

I purposely made sure today to start the app and it was able to capture the steps , but the count was a little lower than the Samsung Health App, which is still fine.

The UI feels a little complex to me - just a personal opinion, I am not sure, why I need those many things there. Compare this to the Samsung Health App - it looks much elegant. So a lot of room to improve, but then there is an wild idea too - can we reach to our Korean friends to talk to Samsung and integrate that with #hive ?

Fitness is the most popular trend of current generation, and I am sure, we can gain a lot of traction, if we fit the global fitness community. Not everyone is trying to be Bryan Johnson, but people now realize the true benefit of staying fit - you go to hospital and give the control to them, and rest all may be history.

yes yes sweat equity should be a every day obligation like a rituals, in the long run it will make us self-reliant health wise post 60s.

I would agree with you that the UI/UX of an app is always the first line of marketing for anything.

200000 steps in 24 days

I think quite easy. I run 7 km approx every day, that is around 10000 steps I guess. So in 24 days time, it is achievable. As such I run barefoot.

Running and Swimming are the best all-round exercises. Walking can also be done passively by doing household chores. I think it should be enticing for all sections of society. Such external gratification will further motivate people to become more aware about fitness.

Thank you.

That's remarkable, running 7 km barefoot is not easy, do you run on grass ?

do you run on grass ?

Yes, not all grounds have grass. But the nearby field is full of grass, so I run bare foot. but I m slow....it takes roughly 55 mins for me to complete 7 KM.

can we reach to our Korean friends to talk to Samsung and integrate that with #hive

Sounds like a bit of a stretch but it's very feasible. For this to successfully happen, we must have/ must be able to offer something that Samsung really wants. The big question is, what would they want? because it certainly wouldn't be for free.

Also, when it comes to fitness, navigating complex app isn't encouraging. The app should strive to be eye-friendly, showing little bits of information at a time.

The big question is, what would they want?

Well, if we get a good contact ,then I am sure, something can be worked out.

Dang, that's a lot of steps. Probably not when you break it down to 24 days though. My wife usually hits about 10,000 to 12,000 steps per day, so this probably wouldn't be too hard for her to accomplish.

My wife usually hits about 10,000 to 12,000 steps per day

Then its quite easy for her.

For sure! Me on the other hand...

Wowow...wish I could have learned about it...I woukd have hit the target....install cover 5 km walk in a day, evening and morning together while the routine things remain out of context...let see how much I could make it in next few days left.

Sorry about that, may be I should have made a post on day 1.

Having something similar to this here on hive would be really great 💯

Yes, and I am sure, there would be maximum people in fitness community in this world.

That achievable, for 1 hour walk you can get around 8,000 steps.

I have used Samsung health and Actifit both applications. But I found Actifit more easy. One think they also should do now, they should held a monthly competition on actifit.
I think we should use at least one app actifit or Samsung health to keep our physical activity on track.

Although there is actifit in the Hive community, if similar applications which you have shown were available here, everyone would benefit as well.

Amazing! I also used Actifit before but stopped for awhile. I wanted to use it again.

Your performance is very good. Exercise apps on phones encourage you to exercise.

There have been times when I walked more than 20,000 per day. I am someone who exercises regularly. I recommend it to everyone

Exercise is ultimate medicine in the long run.

It's amazing that you have completed so many steps. This is a healthy activity and you should definitely activate it. I myself have activated a ticket and it is a miracle and the step counting that helps us in doing so increases our motivation to see how many steps we have actually taken today or in a particular week or month. This is a very informative post of yours.

great achievement friend and although walking is an exercise not very appreciated by many, the truth is that it provides us with multiple benefits for our health. A monthly challenge that, how do you explain very well, if the application here in #Hive corrects those details, can be done among users from different communities and I think it would be great to participate, let's say by country.

This is really good. Actifit works like that as well. There was a time when I was using my Samsung health and there was a feature like this on it as well
And you broke so many steps today
That’s awesome!

Actifit would need a rework to make it more like the Samsung app you used... It won't be easy for sure to persuade Samsung to integrate with hive without any return for them

It won't be easy for sure to persuade Samsung to integrate with hive without any return for them

Free hive earning for their users, extra incentive to use their app.

That’s so many steps you have covered
I wish to be a part of Walk-a-thon someday
It will be fun

Walking is the most important thing it improves leg muscles, digests food, and has many other benefits, and walking 200000 in a 24 days is a lot. I remember when I go to Nainital, I walk about 10k steps in 3 days and my legs was swollen.

Gamification is the way for any app to get mass adoption! This looks great , over at @mmonline we are walk testing 8 different apps, but I like this one as it has a goal!

And fitness is the latest trend, if we can build an app with some easy and straight forward features, we can easily invite a lot of people from around the world.

Yes it really is, especially walking as it is for everyone all around the world as you say!

First of all, friend, if you will be able to reach your goal, I am sure of that with those remaining 9 days, in addition to exceeding it at the same time that you will be able to stay in excellent shape because when we reach an age we need to take care of our body 100% with a better diet as well as a greater amount of physical activity.

that's a lot of steppin'! 😉🤙

goop for u! I totally agree with.. health is the #1 thing. it SHOULD be our priority.

I actually believe that we need more of these types of apps because these types of apps helps ones health and might even drive massive adoption for the hive platform

Would be great to see Actifit add in some more gamification, they already have prizes for number of steps but adding in challenges would be fun

!BBH

Oh dios tantos pasos. Un reto. Que sin duda mi hermana seguro haría. Por ahora yo no, estoy en reposo medico. Jeje bendiciones

Oh god so many steps. A challenge. That without a doubt my sister would surely do. For now I don't, I'm at medical rest. Hehe blessings

Cool. I'm using Huawei smart watch. I hope Actifit will work on it.

Need Actifit to work better.

Nice Post Sir!
Walking once a day is very important for our mental and physical health. The best time for a walk is early in the morning. Start walking in the morning before the sunrise, it not only relaxes our mind and body but also our soul.

This is like for an average sized adult male to walk 4k , 20 days out of a month. It is a good, fair, and easily accomplished goal and I would be all for it. I think Strava to Hive does something like this, but it only reports your activities and focuses on calories burned (I think). They might be convinced to participate.

Wow! That's a lot of steps and I love it. I used to use actifit but I stopped, maybe I would resume it now

I'm really impressed and amazed by seeing you getting engaged in such things and having a goal to work upon. Your keeping good a check on your health, I'm really motivated.
