Graf Rüdiger von Neunkirchen, together with his wife Ilsabe von Eickstedt and their son Christoph, lived in the idyllic surroundings of Mellenthin. He commissioned the construction of the Mellenthin Water Castle during the German Renaissance period from 1575 to 1580. The grave of Graf Rüdiger von Neunkirchen and Ilsabe, adorned with a beautiful Renaissance tombstone, is located in the picturesque village church of Mellenthin. Over the centuries, the Mellenthin Water Castle has undergone many changes and had different owners, yet it has not lost any of its irresistible charm to this day. Visitors can enjoy the stunning tree-lined avenue leading to the castle, the ancient trees in the castle park, and the water-filled moat once built for protection, which can now be crossed for free on a small raft.
Graf Rüdiger von Neunkirchen lebte zusammen mit seiner Frau Ilsabe von Eickstedt und seinem Sohn Christoph in der idyllischen Umgebung von Mellenthin. Er ließ in der Zeit der deutschen Renaissance von 1575 bis 1580 das Wasserschloss Mellenthin errichten. In der malerischen Dorfkirche von Mellenthin befindet sich das Grab von Graf Rüdiger von Neunkirchen und Ilsabe, das mit einem schönen Renaissance-Grabstein geschmückt ist. Das Wasserschloss Mellenthin hat im Laufe der Jahrhunderte viele Veränderungen erfahren und verschiedene Besitzer gehabt, doch hat es bis heute nichts von seinem unwiderstehlichen Charme verloren. Die Besucher können die herrliche Allee, die zum Schloss führt, den alten Baumbestand im Schlosspark und den mit Wasser gefüllten Wassergraben bewundern, der einst zum Schutz angelegt wurde und heute mit einem kleinen Floß kostenlos überquert werden kann.
The fireplace in Mellenthin Castle is a special piece of jewellery and stands in the large entrance hall of the castle. It was built in 1613 and is one of the most impressive Renaissance fireplaces in the whole of Germany. The fireplace consists of finely hewn sandstone blocks that are artfully built up into an imposing structure. The richly decorated façade of the fireplace is decorated with numerous ornaments and figures. The motifs show, among other things, mythological creatures such as centaurs, satyrs and tritons depicted in fantastic scenes. The depiction of plants and fruits is also richly represented. The cornice of the fireplace is carved with coats of arms and inscriptions referring to the builders and owners of the castle. The fireplace radiates a majestic tranquillity and captivates visitors to the castle with its beauty.
Der Kamin in Schloss Mellenthin ist ein besonderes Schmuckstück und steht in der großen Eingangshalle des Schlosses. Er wurde im Jahre 1613 errichtet und zählt zu den beeindruckendsten Kaminen im Stil der Renaissance in ganz Deutschland. Der Kamin besteht aus fein behauenen Sandsteinblöcken, die kunstvoll zu einer imposanten Struktur aufgebaut sind. Die reich verzierte Fassade des Kamins ist mit zahlreichen Ornamenten und Figuren ausgestaltet. Die Motive zeigen unter anderem mythologische Wesen wie Zentauren, Satyrn und Tritonen, die in phantastischen Szenen dargestellt sind. Auch die Darstellung von Pflanzen und Früchten ist reichhaltig vertreten. Auf dem Gesims des Kamins sind Wappen und Inschriften eingearbeitet, die auf die Erbauer und Besitzer des Schlosses hinweisen. Der Kamin strahlt eine majestätische Ruhe aus und zieht die Besucher des Schlosses durch seine Schönheit in seinen Bann.
Legendary and mysterious stories accompany the flair of the castle. There is a tale of an underground passage that is said to lead to the monastery of Pudagla. A knight built it in order to free his beloved from the breeding of the monastery women. There are also reports of great treasures, so that many a person has set off in search of the hidden passage.
Sagenumwobene und geheimnisvolle Geschichten begleiten das Flair des Schlosses. Es wird von einem unterirdischen Gang erzählt, der bis zum Kloster Pudagla führen soll. Ein Ritter legte ihn an, um seine Liebste aus der Zucht der Klosterfrauen zu befreien. Auch wird von großen Schätzen berichtet, so das sich schon so mancher auf die Suche nach dem verborgenen Gang machte.
