At the wetlands of the March and Thaya in the north eastern part of Austria you can find a lot of different bird species and this is also the reason why this is one of my favorite birding spots here in Austria. Not only small birds like this reed wrablers can be found there but also a lot of bigger birds of prey. The great reed warbler and simmilar birds always live in the reed where there is a lot of shallow water where they can find enough insects for prey. You can often hear them singing in the reed but it is rather difficult to find them since often they are completely covered and don't come out to a perching spot where you can find them.
If you have the luck to find one outside of the hiding spots in the reed or at the edge of the reed you can be lucky. In spring it is easier to spot them since they are in courtship mode and often try to impress a female bird by singing and pearching on top of the reed.

I really like them since they are beautiful birds and I know several places to find them but most of the time it is difficult to take pictures of them since often they hide the whole time in the reed. You might hear them singing but they don't show up even for several hours. But then on the other day you have the luck that one of them shows up and is even singing just in front of you without hasitation. I also like their song very much since they have a very nice voice.

Good photos. We also have such birds, of a different species. But outwardly they are very similar.
Those are soooo hard to see, and so easy to hear. Great photos!
