Motivational speakers often get dragged through the mud by people who say that what they are preaching is unrealistic and inapplicable to real-life scenarios. Truth be told, a lot of motivational speakers tend to just say words that are ludicrous whenever they are hyped.
One of the most common things they say is that "You are okay the way you are".
Really?
I know they say it with good intentions because they don't want people to develop low self-esteem. They also say that to make people feel confident in who they are.
However, that isn't something to casually say to just anyone. Imagine saying that to a young adult who's wasting his/her time doing things that are not going to help augment his/her life. How can you tell that person that he's okay the way he/she is?
Seriously, that's where motivational speakers start to lose my attention. I'm a big fan of listening or even reading motivational materials. Thankfully, the internet and all the platforms that allow content upload make it very easy for me to have access to these motivational materials.
I'm someone who likes to be very realistic about life. I've seen both the shiny and the dark side of life. I like to be logical when going through the things life throws on my path. I sure have some words I've heard from all sorts of people including motivational speakers.
A lot of those words have helped me to take steps in different areas of my life, take responsibility for myself and those I care about, and become a better version of myself.
Do you know Jordan Peterson?
What about David Goggins?
These brilliant folks are the sort of motivational speakers I enjoy their material. I vibe to what they say, and I can relate with them because the things they say are backed by genuine hard work. They don't just say things; they practice the things they preach, and I've learned so much by listening to them.
Take this video for an example;
Part of the thing I like about his takes in the interview is that he always mentions the importance of personal responsibility in the growth and development we experience as we go through life. He's very deep in that.
Jordan Peterson also has an interesting opinion in one of his videos where he talked about people who have become 30-year-old infants. That particular video lives rent-free in my mind and I'm laser focused about my life to be sure I won't turn into a adult who runs from responsibilities.
So, I believe it's fairly obvious that I listen to motivational speakers but I'm very careful when curating the sort of motivational speakers I vibe to their content. Even when I listen to my favorite speakers, I'm still open-minded enough to decide what I will vibe with and what I would ignore.

No matter what anyone says to motivate you, if you don't take a personal responsibility concerning your life and life decisions, nothing changes. That aspect is non-negotiable.

Exactly. Taking steps forward always has so much to do with our personal decision to grow and become a better version of ourselves.
You are perfectly right. The truth is we can not listen to everyone and that is why we must be very careful who we listen to
Exactly, bro. I try to Curate who I listen to
I think people should be mature enough to filter what they consume and ignore. There are motivational speakers I hear talk, and I know that some things they say don't concern me because if I do them, I will fall. Just like the example you gave, You are okay the way you are. If it's about the physical appearance, I would understand because they are trying to build the person's self-esteem, as some people have low self-esteem, but if it's about life generally, then that statement is wrong.
That's exactly how it should be. People need to filter and properly curate the things they listen to. However, a lot of people idolize celebrities and popular people so much to the point where they take their words to be the gospel truth.
We all need to proper Curate what we listen to in the midst of all the information flying around.
Is not everything you listen to you do and is not everything you ignore
Exactly. We have to be careful of what we select.

I agree with you. People should learn to be open-minded and know whose advice to heed as many of these motivational speakers are only out to make themselves looks better with their words.
Exactly. We have to pay very good attention to the speakers we listen to. Just because they are in front of Camera shouldn't be enough reason for us to take everything they say as the ultimate truth

Exactly. It's not even a surprise. Taking responsibility for the things that happen in our life has it's way of urging us to step up and act properly because we know we won't be blaming anyone if things go wrong in our life
