I have been reading way too much content on waking up at 5 AM and its benefits again. Basically, people said great things about it and how it benefited their life. For me though, my ideal waking up would be 1 AM to 3 AM. You heard me, I am not kidding. I love waking up at 1 AM to 3 AM. Although certainly there are days when I wake up at 5PM. I know, it's quite extreme but hear me out, if you ever have some kind of flexible life, let me tell you the magic of 1 Am to 3 AM.
Waking up 1 AM to 3 AM
I suppose it's why I'd be quite a nuisance for others. I like to wake up at odd hours and sleep at odd hours too. That's why whenever I rent a place, I make sure that they are okay with an oddball like myself. I certainly do not want to bother others but at the same time, I need my peace and sanity. Thankfully, I always find places where they chill about it. These days since I reset my sleep again, I am settling in from 1 AM to 3 AM with my bedtime over 8PM. I think that it does not matter how you sleep or when you sleep, you get 24 hours to live your life. But shortly, I'll tell you why I like it.
Throughout the years, I experimented with 5 AM, 4 AM, and eventually I am settling in at 1-3 AM where I would feel happiest the most. There are a number of reasons why I always prefer waking up that way. In the self-improve niche there is some kind of notion that waking up early is good and many are advised to wake up early. My approach to that is, just find what works for you. But here's why 1-3 AM works best for me:
Around 1-3 AM, the air is fresher and there is some kind of peaceful quietness to it. It's a great time to jump into reading, work, anything that requires thinking. My housemates, landlords, and everyone are still asleep and there is less noise. I have a low tolerance for noisy places which I picked up after my major accident. I find it easier to think when the place is quiet.
If you believe in spirituality or some sort, waking up at around these time might be good and bad. Adding to that, sleep foundation finds waking up at 3 AM is actually quite troublesome. There are also researched linked to insomnia Awake at 4 AM: treatment of insomnia with early morning awakenings among older adults. However despite all these, I sleep like any other adult, solid 6-7 hours. It's just that I choose to wake up at 3AM which just means I go to bed around 8 or 9 PM.
Usually, after waking up I go outside a bit for some stargazing or moon gazing. Sometimes I can see them, sometimes I don't. There are days when the air and atmosphere feels a bit scary but because I am used to it, I just go around doing something, be it trying new recipes or cleaning my room.
Another big thing for me is the ability to prepare myself mentally for whatever I have to face. Usually where I am from, places open at 9 AM which is a great thing because first, I can arrive early and second, I am mentally awake and ready to face different life dealings.
Relating to peacefulness and the quietness of early morning, I find myself able to write more. I get creative and more reluctant checking on my phone, zombie scrolling and sticking to whatever needs to be done. I like to open hive around this time too because it's just nicer to reply to people when my mood is still neutral haha. Not to mention, coffee hits differently around this time too. I also like to call my mom around this time because like me, she wakes up around 3 briefly.
Then, I would go to the gym as soon as it opened. Sometimes a bit of delay but this is the key to my sleep routine. I don't think without it, I could pull out these routines and sleep hours. Gym makes me energized but also tired. By the end of the day, I feel like my life has been completed. By the time I reach the gym, I am either 4 hours in or solid 7 hours awake.
Do I feel sleepy midday?
Sometimes I do and this is why I like to add extra walks or go outside. If I can't, I just try to keep myself busy because by 5PM I eventually have to prepare for dinner and go to bed in 3-4 hours.
What about food?
Waking up at 1 AM or 3 AM certainly impacted the way I eat. I I would have light snacks like fruits or bars at around 3 AM if I wake up at 1 AM. If I wake up at 3 AM, I have snacks around 5 AM. Then, after gym, I would have a big meal by 10AM.
Is there any difference in terms of productivity?
Certainly, a huge difference. I think that waking up early just sets a good mood. I feel like so much has been done and I made the best of 24 hours. Sometimes, It's also compensating for the days when I feel sluggish and not on top of my game.
I would say it's always worth it waking up early. If I were to measure my mood, the days when I wake up early and around those hours are often my best days compared to the days when I wake up at 5 PM or so.
Are you a night owl or early bird?

Waking up 1 to 3 am makes me sleepy. I felt the need to go back to sleep. But when it is 4 am or 5 am, it is tge best time for me. What really hinders me to go up to bed is the coldness of th3 surroundings. But I must say that waking up early is really so worth it, dear friend machiata. I hope you are having a great time. Keep safe.
At first, it was not easy and makes me super sleepy too but now that I am adjusted, it's actually fine and I am use to it now. Also yes, there are days when cold makes me want to stay in but since I have to go gym, I am going against the cold 😂. Glad that you find it helpful too!
I find it very interesting, dear friend because I can relate to you, hehe. Talking about the gym, I felt I needed to have some physical activities, to eliminate the toxins in my body, and it seemed like I was always eating these days, hehe. You are most welcome and the pleasure is mine. !LUV !PIZZA

Greetings Mac! 💞
Honestly I too have read many sleep studies and the whole thing about the need to keep the circadian rhythm like most humans, in fact I give those recommendations to people, but here between you and me, I also do what I want with my sleep hours and it's exactly for the same reason as you, for the quietness.
All my life I have considered myself a night person, I love the dark, I love the silence and the tranquility that the night provides, I have lived alone and yet it's not even for the people around me, it's all, it's the sound of the night that I love.
I think I told you recently that I exercise between 1 am and 3 am every day 🙃, I've told people about it and they tell me I'm crazy, but I've been doing it for like 4 years now, of course I skip some days, but after I do the exercise is that I can relax to sleep.
I go to sleep and wake up between 12-1pm everyday and my days start after 2pm, the difference with you is that that getting up in the morning I could never do it, I hate it!!! I hate mornings 😖 the few days I am forced to get up at those hours I am irritable and tired all day, it's horrible for me.
In the end we choose what we want, I really don't see anything wrong with it as long as physically you feel good and you keep exercising and eating well, to hell with social norms and human normality 🤭.
Right, there's also circadian rhythm that I think is important to look at but really, I guess it's just sleep when you want to and whenever you feel best😂 also, I am the opposite, I get grumpy and bad mood when I wake up anytime beyond 12PM. I feel like I am already so behind and would totally hate it.
That should be a quote itself 🤣🤣 actually something interesting to expand as well hehe. I'd make sure to say it's quoted by Dalla!
Hahahah OMG the best phrase to launch me to fame 🤣🤣🤣, but it is exactly what I think and have always thought 🤭🤭.
For me, waking up early is so worth it. I usually wake up at 5. I also love to wake up at 1 or 2am, although I am only awake for 30 mins but seriously, J can do a lot on that short time while on the comfort room hahaha. I have my phone with scrolling here and there. Then go back to sleep again after that and thrn wake up again at 5 or 5:30. I feel more refreshed When I wake up in that time. I still get a 6-7 hrs sleep because I sleep at 9 or 10 pm hehe. And I am used to waking up early because of mothers.
See, you get me! My mom also does something like yours too, a short waking up time then sleep and wake up again. Do you have days when you sleep above 10PM?
Yes ye, when I watched movies and I want to finish it 🙊 but even if like that I still wake up early coz that's how my body clock is used to.
sometimes an early bird but most of the time I am a Night Owl 😅.
You have a versatile body clock, my friend, Indeed waking up early has a lot of good benefits and as you said working at this time is more productive, especially in terms of writing and thinking analysis. I missed this kind of set up, I remember during my high school day this is the time zone for me to study cause it is really quite and you can focus n studying.
😁 Yes! studying is also another reason why I like doing this. Was your school started early too? mine was always starting at 6PM and it was actually difficult but overtime after years, waking up around 4-5 are no longer an issue. Somehow I found the magic of 1-3AM just around a few years ago after some experimenting.
If you feel great with that way of distributing your rest then I'm happy for you. I think it's not about doing a routine, it's more about flowing with everything with a purpose and that's how you do it 👊
Well said!that's what I learned after years of experimenting just to find what I like and don't like. It's really all about flowing with the purpose and doing what feels good for us.
Don't get offended but I just want to ask, how old are you? My old adults are waking up early but not the young ones.
I am very old, 25😂 I didn't know it's common in old adults
25? Really? you make my day huh, btw thanks for the good vibes hehe.
Most productive hours for me are early in the morning, but my "early" isn't definitely like yours... lol... The main problem is that I can't go to bed before 1 AM, and getting up before 7 AM is a problem... It's great when you can tweak your life with your surrounding, but it's much harder with other family members involved...
But, I do agree that night and early morning are the best hours for work (and for any other activity)!
I get you with family members around. Whenever I am staying with my parents, it was pretty challenging. But thankfully, some of them have odd habits like mine, so we are fine. I find that adaptability in life is a great skill to have.
In Nigeria, it's often believed that only evil people or fraudulent people are awake by 1-3am, Mostly, the latter.
I love to sleep. I sleep alot. I don't joke with my night sleep.
Food? I can't eat in the midnight. It's waste of food because if I sleep back, I'd wake up hungry again.
Yeah, there are superstition and supernatural beliefs around the world that associates those hours often with evil. It's why I personally find that sometimes there are days when waking up in such hours can be scary.
D*mn. I can't wake up that early since my sleeping hours are 11 to 11.30 lol.. Don't you feel sleepy at day?,/_😅
Sometimes I do especially when what I am doing is quite boring and requires me to stay in a place. If I am moving around and being outside, I am totally awake until I go back home, that's when I start feeling sleepy and it is always often time for bed 😄
How old are you, if you don't mind? Because only oldies can wake that very early haha
I am very old, like 25 haha
😱 people in your age even want to slumber longer 😂..

It's completely variable for me. Sometimes I'm a night owl and I'm asleep at 5-6 a.m., sometimes I'm an early bird and I'm asleep at 9 p.m. The time you sleep and the time you wake up definitely affects everything. Literally everything. It changes what you eat, what you drink, what you do, your habits, everything. But when I went to sleep at 9pm and woke up at 3am I felt great because everything was quiet and calm and everything was ready for me to be productive. I usually don't eat for a long time after I wake up and I just spend that time working. I used to do that when I lived with my family and when my family woke up I would have fun and spend time with them, so I wasn't away from anything. I'm thinking of going back to that pattern nowadays. I should mention that this pattern can be different for everyone. For example, you wake up between 1-3 am, I wake up at 3 am and someone else may wake up at 5 am. It depends entirely on the person. So you can experiment to find what works best for you.
that's the point, you just have to find what works for you and your current situation. For me, it works that way although I notice that by midday I can get extremely sleepy and have the need to nap. But again, I also sleep early very early. It took a while to adjust but I am currently adjusting well now. It really gets difficult though when I add working out a bit later because I would be already extremely tired. But so far, I really enjoy waking up that early. Maybe it'll change maybe it won't.
Night owl!
I would definitely not be able to wake up regularly between 1 and 3 a.m.
It's the time we go to sleep 😬
I used to do that too, sleep at 3 AM wake up at 9AM. It's not something I really like because I tend to oversleep when I am sleeping around that hour. Now, I am still comfy with this hours and won't likely change unless I am traveling again hehe
I am a night owl and I find myself most productive creatively after midnight. I just don't like being disturbed and midnight is the time where I am certain nothing would bother me.
The temperature also suits me better. Living in Malaysia, where it's summer every day, the daytime can be too hot for me to be productive. I would be fine in an office but I am a work-from-home freelancer and I don't have aircond to cool myself off.
Your situation is pretty much the same with me. I work from cafe or co-working often during the day. Also same, midnight is when I get more creative which is also why I switch my sleep like that just so I can be awake while rested too.
