No more non-veg

20211002_134344.jpg

From yesterday onward, there will be no non-veg allowed to entered inside the house - that's the order of home ministry. Every year the eighth month of Hindu (Shaka) calendar is considered to be the holiest month - it starts on the full-moon day in the month of October-November named Kartik Purnima. Day before yesterday was that day. On this day, the unmarried girls do a special ritual for Lord Kartikeya - the handsome Son of Lord Shiva with the belief that, they will marry a handsome husband. I would have written about the ritual, but since there was a death in our family, all rituals are stopped for a year. So may be next year, I will post when my daughter does it. The following day, the Laxmi Puja starts - Laxmi is the goddess of wealth. I will try to go around and see, if we have some pandals celebrating and post about it.

So with all these background, there will be no non-veg items allowed inside home for a month, and its going to be all veggie affair. Interestingly, this coincides with the winter season, when usually vegetables are available and cheap. Unfortunately, the weather has spoiled everything this year, and that's not the case this year. The vegetable price is roaring high this year, because of severe rain spoiling all the plan. But still we have to buy and survive because of the practice being followed for ages. I was a bit curious to ask my mother, why this practice is being followed and her answer was, earlier people used to eat only fish as the non-veg item. And this is the breeding time, so the fish gets some sort of diseases. So may be the ancestors have made this practice out of their observation. Tried to do a bit of search, and I could also find some scientific correlation - see this post

We had this last fish dish prepared day before yesterday and I think, its super easy to prepare. Fry the fish, fry some capsicum for 2-3 minutes , add onion and then fry them, till the onion becomes a bit red.

Add tomatoes, and ginger garlic paste (above) and cook on slow hit for around 8-10 minutes, you can feel the smell of the spices at this moment. Add little water to make it like a gravy and then cook for 5 minutes. And then add a little Cinnamon and Cardamom powder and cook for 2 minutes and then add the fried fish and cook for 2-3 minutes, till the gravy soaks to the fish. Cinnamon and Cardamom powder gives a nice flavor, but if you want very rich flavor, then you can prepare the Garam masala and keep it and use in varieties of curry. And we don't add chili at all, but if you like the spicy food, then don't forget to add chili powder. There are couple of variants - one is for spicy preparation, but the Kashmiri chilli is surprisingly a bit sweet and instead used for good color.

So this was the last non-veg dish for the month. But hey, these restrictions are only for home - the ladies members are strict on protocols, but we have got some exceptions - we can eat outside but not with their company 😀 Couple of hours back a friend called and was asking he is standing on the river bank and some fresh fish are available - But there is no arrangement to cook it anywhere....

Glad to hear that veganism is such an important part of Hinduism. I wish western cultures adopted such traditions too, at least a few times per year. The consumption of meat and other animal products is alarmingly unsustainable in so many parts of the world. Fortunately, more and more young people realize that and they change their eating habits accordingly. I am not a vegan myself but I have been trying to reduce my meat consumption... Thanks for another interesting insight into your culture :)

@tipu curate

In fact in my place most of the ladies do not eat meat and only eat fish - my wife never eats chicken or egg.

Good for them I guess :) It´s actually quite fascinating to find out how much nutrition can be easily (and fully) replaced with plant based alternatives...

The way he allows us to look inside his culture is great, i love his posts because we on the wstern cultures dont have those. Even latinos, we have some rituals and stuff left over from indegenous population but are closing on extintion...

Interesting tradition, but is kinda cheating for you be able to eat meat outside home and your family is not able, weird traditions that are usually born from medical reasons long ago, most of the reasons are just that, the whole situation is always placed :D for that tradition to unfold, here we had some related traditions to food long ago, but there were forgottent mostly out of climate changes by the time of my granfathers. Sadly i guess, because Venezuela is forgetting their culture.

kinda cheating for you be able to eat meat outside

The ladies takes care of all the good things and in charge - Men in blue 😀

Blue=? Dint get what you try to cummunicate :S

When I was growing up, my father had a colleague and friend, also a professor, who was Hindu. Their family was vegetarian all the time, and often invited us for dinner. That is when I learned how delicious vegetarian food can be! Of course, his wife, a very kind lady whose English was limited, was an amazing cook, and that helped. I thought that in the Hindu religion, you had to be vegetarian all the time because my father's friend was. So, I learned something new today. Also, this fish looks delicious!

I have heard Hindu citizens do the rituals this time period and no non-veg foods. There are so many peoples who are living nowadays society respect their oldest culture. So definitely follow old rituals and teach their children the importance of the culture. In fact you have made really delicious and spicy fish fried. It's mouthwatering dish.

I sometimes feel, old rituals are definitely worth following - they must have done quite a good amount of observations before coming up with these rituals. Even though, we have done progress in scientific research, most of the times, science agrees to what they found out.

The fish looks so fresh by looking on the pictures i also feel like eating it...🥺
And even who can deny the order ot ministry of house😂😂😂

And thanks a lot for everything sir 🙏❤ Somewhere Indian customs remain regarding scientific voting. So it would be good if we do not eat non veg in this period of time @sanjeevm

Looks yum, I love a good fish dish

You can actually try same spices with paneer as well, just add some cashew paste at the end.

Sounds good! I will defo be trying something very similar!

Looks very yummy Sir, I like your recipe, I will also try this.

I always make fish with mustard seed paste. Thanks😊

We also do use the mustard seed paste - the black one is more tasty, but more heavy. The white mustard seed paste, is what we use often and that has a complete separate taste.

Right Sir , but I mix black and yellow mustard seed while making paste, it will have nice taste. Black mustard seed having strong esense, while in yellow have mild.

Have a great day and have a great recipe

You have fried very spicy fish. I like to eat sliced fish very much

I have learned from my Hindu friends that virgin girls worship Shiva. I even visited a Shiva temple in our Chittagong area a few years ago which is located on the top of a hill. I have heard from many that Kartik used to observe Kartik full moon in the month of Kartik. However the cooking process is much nicer.

Due to Kartik Month we also don't eat Non-Vej..

That looks delicious. Looks like a good meal to eat if you're not going to be able to eat meat for a while

I can understand, vegetables do not need that much rainfall to actually thrive, it's crazy to see prices skyrocketing due to the flood and destruction of people's farmland and all. The fish looks tasty without the adding of that sauce, all in all, the adding of the spice is what I truly adore. Wow.

So true! The dishes very tasty. I'm sure it must be really awesome too.

The fish looks so yummy. How's the weather in India now?

The winter is coming but its not usual - still hot in the day time - not good for health and garden.

Do you mind reviewing and supporting the Hive Authentication Services proposal? That would be much appreciated.
Your feedback about the project is welcome too.
Thank you.Hey @sanjeevm, sorry to jump in off-topic.

Supported, I have one question - the user still has to rely on the HAS, RIGHT ? What if we come up with something like hive signer where we just use the keys in the browser and it sends to HAS encrypted ?

HAS and HiveSigner are two different things.
Where HiveSigner store and validate the authorization tokens on its own server, HAS does not store them. They are in your wallet with your keys.
You still can use both, but they won't work with each other.

Thank you for your support @sanjeevm
