WHY IS IT SO HARD TO MEDITATE ?

Is it hard to meditate ? Probably not, but honestly I have never been able to mediate before yesterday. The reason is that I just don't get inspired to mediate. Blame it on my liking or those who never inspired me, I am always a person loving outdoor sports. And the reason for that probably is that is how I have been brought up ? I remember our childhood was full of outdoor activities. We did not have any other means of entertainment. Apart from school playing outside was the only means of entertainment and our parents did not have to tell that to us even. We would just go ourselves. Today, even though I have been telling my kids, they don't like to go - they have something else that fascinates them - mobile, laptop - that provides a plethora of entertainment. They even don't watch TV now a days. They get everything in these devices. And why blame only on them ? This is the situation for every family - they tell me their friends are not coming so with whom they would play ? So as a result, we have tried to inspire them to mediate and my son is doing it every day at home. Initially we forced him - you won't get mobile or laptop if you don't mediate. Call in inspiration or forcing him to do it, he fell into that habit. And now he does it on his own. So the point is that, we have not been inspired or forced to do it. You can do something everyday only after it becomes a habit. A habit is possible only two ways - either you are inspired or you are compelled.

So no one inspired us or forced us and that is why I did not learn it. And as far as I think, Meditation was possibly popularized in India only after Baba Ramdev started selling it to public. Before that, probably very few were aware of its benefits , and doing it. But Baba Ramdev brought the revolution - by organizing big public events and then later publishing them on online platforms. He definitely has been able to encash it in a very niche way but it also has benefited people because it inspired them. So if someone would have inspired us , then probably I would have practiced it long back.

As I said a habit can only come from inspiration or compulsion - yesterday I started it because of a compulsion. My compulsion is my situation - trying to inspire my father to start meditation, with a though that probably it can improve some of his conditions. If I have to become a teacher, then I need to learn it first. So yesterday I went through several videos and started practicing the basic yoga - Kapalabhati. Again thanks to Baba Ramdev - he has videos online to inspire you as well as guide you on the technique. And I started persuading this to my father yesterday - he was very reluctant to do this but finally after lot of push, he started. I know, this is not perfect, but this is a beginning - everything starts like this. I know, its going to take several days for him to observe his inner world and breath - even it may not happen, but I am trying my best. At least in this process, I will benefit myself. May be after I feel the difference, I would wonder, why someone did not inspire us when we were kids !!

Meditation can certainly be a challenge. I have read several book by the recently deceased exiled Buddhist Vietnamese monk Thich Nhat Hanh about mindfulness meditation. I learned a lot from his books, but I also often felt/feel challenged by them.

One thing I learned in the last year (I was surprised that I did not know it before) is that there are many types of meditation. The type I learned from those books was called "minfulness meditation," and it is very popular. Many people find it calming and it has proven health benefits.

However, it is more challenging for some of us to do mindfulness meditation because we have busy minds...

By the way, Thich Nhat Hanh has a long-running podcast you could probably access somewhere if you had the faintest interest.

There are many other types of meditation, but the type I like is transcendental meditation. To be honest, I feel like a bit of a crazy person when I do it, but, after, I am so calm and centered. I have to stop worrying what a room full of no one thinks. Ha ha.

Good for you for starting a meditation practice and getting your Dad involved. This is self-care. You are inspiring me. I will finally make myself meditate today. There is no one here except the cats. They don't care if I look silly!

That's the very wisdom I got from this post.

I didn't only see a father here but a loving son too who has started learning something for his father's sake, to help him maintain his health.

That´s interesting. I thought your generation and definitely your parents´ generation practised meditation commonly. I mean it originated in your country, right? Meditation doesn´t have a long tradition in my country but these days, more and more people (especially young people with healthy / alternative lifestyles) start doing this. I have only tried a few times (following some internet tutorials) to combat my insomnia but it didn´t help. Maybe I just wasn´t patient enough. I might give it another try. Thanks for the video btw.

Only the saints used to do them, until Baba Ramdev used a niche opportunity to make himself a billionaire. He quickly became popular and then he used that fame to establish his multi billion brand. I never heard about Yoga in my childhood. I think, now it should be part of the curriculum in schools - of course after the school opens.

Very true, we should keep an eye what they are watching. While surfing Now a days many random ads and videos display which are not appropriate for kids.

Btw meditation is easy when used to it.

For me meditation is both the easiest and hardest thing to do lol. It's a fairly simple thing to do, but I find it so difficult to actually sit down and do it. If that makes sense?

Meditation is so good for you though, I should do it more often.

That is the problem with many, It's more the mindset - doing it is not a big deal, but we really feel inspired to do it. I have heard, may be if we do in groups, it feels better.

I think that we should have coach for meditation . doing it by group will decrease concentration in my opinion what do you think?

Well, getting a one to one coach is going to be a costly affair, I think, doing in a group will have more motivation, unless, you want to cheat.

Yes it is true. Now a days everybody are following meditation. All are know the benefits of the meditation. How it is helps to our improving the internal part of the health system. In ancient times, the saints were the only ones who meditated. That is why they are so wise. We all are knows from our Indian culture. So that all are following this path now.Again you shared a nice post about the meditation. Thank you my friend Sanjeev.

Habit is something that changes our lifestyle. For example, once we get used to something, it doesn't seem difficult to us anymore. Meditation is one of them. But no one inspires us for this.

Entertainment and fun activities are important steps come after meditation. To practice it well, you should be lonely around the beauty of nature to feel comfortable, frank with yourself and know your mistakes to correct them in the future. good 🌄

Children should play sports and spend a part of the day outside. It will be good for both their mind and body

Again it is also develop our immune system. There are lots of benefits of the meditation.

Hmm. Habits are created either by inspiration or compulsion. That's true.

About your kids that don't like going outside or watch TVs again, it reminds me of myself. I don't stay in the living room to watch TV anylonger, I am always in my room, either with my system or on phone. If I want to watch movie, I use Netflix, everything is already there.

Good that you got your father to meditate. You wouldn't have done it without learning to do it yourself.

The only way I meditate that keeps me connected it when I play my guitar. I think that's how I get connected to my soul. I get to the point that my eyes get close, feeling the music I play and being connected to the inner me.

You are right that in today's modern age everyone has got into mobile and laptop. End physical activity in the field Sitting in a state of meditation and meditating for an hour is very useful for human health. Close your eyes, take a deep breath and exhale.
