Oh my! As I began reading this, I was reminded of a time when my daughter came rushing into our bedroom in the dead of night. She was panicked, and told us that someone was knocking on her bedroom window.
Dreary with sleep, I somehow climbed out from my side of the bed. My hubby on the other hand turned over grumbling incoherently. I did my best to calm my daughter, stating it must be a breeze or something moving her blinds.
She was adamant though, so naturally, still sleepy-eyed I went to investigate. Completely believing that I would find a quick explanation and we could all go back to bed.
However, I was not expecting to find a young girl standing on the low flat roof just outside my daughter's window. She was clearly terrified, and wearing pyjamas. This brought me up with a start, and now totally awake, I opened my daughter's bedroom window and allowed the girl to enter.
It turns out she was our neighbour's granddaughter. She was sleeping in the room adjacent to our daughter's next door. Because of the hot weather, she'd kept the window wide open, and in the middle of the night was woken by something inside the room. It turns out it was a fox!
In her terror, she'd fled her room through the window and climbed over the intervening wall between the two roofs.
As a Londoner, I first heard the howling of foxes as a child. They were terrifying. City-dwelling foxes are everywhere and pretty common.
It doesn't surprise they are visiting you at the moment. Their symbolism conveys cleverness, playfulness and mischievousness among others.
The Sooper Snails (me and @mcyusuf) are on the curation trail as part of the DreemPort / Ecency challenge. You have been slimed! This 2nd week we have been joined by The Writers 'nd a Half (@samsmith & @penderis) because they asked ever so nicely. Hehehehe!
oh my gosh!!!!!!!!!!!! I THINK YOU JUST BEAT ME WITH SCARIEST WAY TO WAKE UP!! HAHAHAHAHA
so my kids try to wake me very very gently - because I can always sense when someone is there in the dead of sleep! and i wake to TERROR because someone is literally just standing there.
so they thought that by waking me quieter.. it would help. turns out NOPE. i would just much rather let my brain hear them coming sooner - so I coudl be aware - rather than open my eyes to see someone standing in front of me, silhouetted in the dark hahahahahha
but yes - waking up to those things... stuff of nightmares! Poor little girl had to not only get woken up in the middle of the night but travel to someone else's house! and then your daughter! oh gosh! LOL
It doesn't surprise they are visiting you at the moment. Their symbolism conveys cleverness, playfulness and mischievousness among others.
cracking up at that! hahahahahaha
oh - and here - i just shared this in another comment. this one sounds like an animal to me - but the ones i heard sounded just like women screaming OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!
There are a variety of different sounds, for sure. Baby wailing, Women screaming, and then a strange barking sound. And when you find out it's a fox, it still unnerves you.
LOLOLOL i like to pull people in to my stories and keep them guessing!
but that is really what happened heheheh - the sounds that they make are TERRIFYING.
here is one video... but this sounds like an animal to me. sometimes they sound exactly like a woman screaming (like they did at night 2 nights ago hahaha)
Real'fa king cute. In such a short read, I had enough time to get angry. I know where you are, I'm like fire some rounds in the air or something, anything, notnothing!
Foxes. Real cute.
She has nice teeth on the cover, I know where she's not from..
we have an arsenal here. lol we live in the boonies - we have to!
by the time I grabbed my hubby's arm it was to tell him exactly what we were hearing.... but believe me... if it hadn't dawned on me.... something would have been done. lol
Everyone should have an arsenal. I feel naked without at least one firearm. <- Funny, autocorrect was dead set on saying "forearm." What's even weirder to me is cultures which not only oppose them but with all their heart, firmly believe that while citizens shouldn't own them, law enforcement should. That'll never make sense to me.
Oh goodness... yep...these foxes get me every time... as I said to you yesterday, I have actually phoned 999 here in the UK a few times over the years because I thought a woman was being murdered or assaulted. Have had some awkward discussions with police officers at my front door 😂😂😂 Hope they don't continue to freak you out in the middle of the night!
yes - hehehe foxes. the sound was horrifying. I'm so glad that I grabbed my husband from running out the door hahahaha he thought it was a woman screaming too LOL
but no - that's usually the coyotes that trick humans.
they are very very sneaky animals, the coyotes. i don't like them. its like they can read each other's minds in the pack and then they move as one. don't like! LOL
foxes are just very playful and skittish. a bit mischievous too - but they aren't too bad. except when they are SCREAMING lol
I was actually thinking that something happened, this is a master class in creativity. I went ahead to see the video only to see an animal speeding off 😂
How often do you see them around?
Aaaaaaa you did it again!!! You got me good!! This is not fair! 🤣👍
hahahahhahahahahahahha!!!!!!!
this is my M.O.😂😂😂😂😂
I'm glad you are enjoying it! One of these days I'm going write good enough to get you too! 😉
What does "M.O." mean?
Modus Operandi.
hehehe the "method to my madness" hahahahha
I see! Very nice! 👍
but it really did happen exactly like that lololol

The door is always open 💛
I was hooked on the story. I was thinking: "what is going on?" But it would never crossed my mind that it could be foxes!
LOLOLOL i like to pull people in to my stories and keep them guessing!

they are like...It's that lady again!!! lololol
Those were foxes, right? Man, this means you live close to them.....
I would have made a sling that would.just hold them down till morning for me.
Bush meat can make some delicious pots of pepper soup and stew.
yes - hehehe foxes. the sound was horrifying. I'm so glad that I grabbed my husband from running out the door hahahaha he thought it was a woman screaming too LOL
Jeez!! He wanted to go out? Wolves aren't friendly one bit. They must be very hungry to have that close.
no no no... hehehe just a fox.
not a wolf.
a fox is a very small animal. they are usually skittish... they are like a cross between a dog and a cat hehehehe
but he wanted to go out to help the "woman" that we thought was being tortured! LOL it really sounded like that
here - let me show you
it sounds very much like this - but ours was screaming like OWWWWWWWWWWW !!!! (LIKE IN PAIN!) LOL so scaryWow!! That cry is horrible.
I mixed that up.
A fox, not a wolf.
the cry is so scary right???? ughhhh too much! lol
Aren't they carnivorous? They sound can trick humans into trying to help thinking it is a human.
yes - carniverous hahaha
but no - that's usually the coyotes that trick humans.
they are very very sneaky animals, the coyotes. i don't like them. its like they can read each other's minds in the pack and then they move as one. don't like! LOL

Okay, this is interesting. I am not familiar with their habits, if that fox was found here - I am sure they will have tracked and killed it.
I guess that's why even butterfly hardly wait for us to take pictures
I was actually thinking that something happened, this is a master class in creativity. I went ahead to see the video only to see an animal speeding off 😂
How often do you see them around?
hahahahaha they are around often now - a family is here.... not sure why they settled in... but they are here and screaming often LOLOL
driving me insane! LOL
You had foxes in your garden???
SO cool!
This totally freaked me out until I had a proper look 😆
