Here in the Philippines, specifically in our little Barrio, we will have this annual Sports Tournament. Our SK Chairperson will host a Volleyball and Basketball Tournament for all ages living here in our barrio. Aside from that, after the 24th night mass of the month, everyone will be gathered at the barrio plaza to welcome the 25th day or the Christmas Day. In that case, every household are encourage to bring their own dish for the partaking of food, games follows after and the giving of prizes and gifts.
Oh, youβre in your element then Ren, with your love for volleyball π Love the brining dish to share as well, lovely tradition π
Yes Ma'am. That is why I am very excited when this season comes because we all know here that there will be lots of activities coming too. Hihi.
And yes, bringing foods is one of the awaited parts of the special event of the month.βΊοΈ
Well, enjoy your festive period to the max sis ππ
This is a wonderful tradition. Different dishes and gifts to go round.
This is a wonderful way to celebrate the season.
Yes it is! And we all look forward to be able to it again this year.π
In Holland we go to church and spend time with family. Itβs time to reflect on the old and prepare for the new year . We celebrate Christmas Eve, first day of Christmas and second day of Christmas
I am looking forward to it
Oh, so youβre in Holland Britt! Did I tell you that I lived in NL for over a year? I learn something new about you every week ππ
Ohhh dear I dont think so , bit how cool where were you
I was in Leiden. Still go there to visit my ex every now and again π
Mij family is in leiden. Itβs near Rotterdam so thatβs great . Itβs a small world gahahah
How auspicious! Maybe one day weβll meet up for a coffee when Imm visiting Leiden next π
A love hive meet up , I am sure in for that we will keep in touch
Being a Christian in Nigeria, the tradition on Christmas day is to first attend a vigil that will usher us into the Christmas day, then there will be joyful noise of Christmas at exactly 12am followed with fireworks and knockouts. After, the preparation of celebratory meals begin, families and friends gather, gifts are opened, children dressed in their new Christmas dresses and they merry all day.
The Jewish tradition on Christmas is to order Chinese food. π
Many of the agnostic ones also have our own trees which we light up in the spirit of the holiday season.
Haha, I like that tradition! Who works at the Chinese on a Christmas Day though? π
In my local place, I believe some of the staff are Japanese! π
Maybe those who donβt celebrate donβt mind working π
Indeed! I know I'll be working... but the celebrations will be ongoing regardless. π
Iβll be working on my articles π
Thank you so much @dustbunny for your random generous contributions! I've noticed you coming around a few of my comments recently, and I appreciate the sentiment. π
Currently, I am based in Korea. And here December 25th is a holiday, but families don't gather together. I think it is a more romantic holiday than a family one here ahha Couples spend time together, go on the date, and there are a lot of different activities for couples everywhere :)
Oh, nice. That is very different and interesting π§
After all Christmas is meant to be spent with loved ones. A romantic Christmas would be nice.
Exactly! And when I think about Christmas these days I remember one sentence from the song "All I want for Christmas is you...")
Here in my country and more specifically where I live, the tradition is to have dinner with the family with their Hallaca, a bit of Salad and if possible, although it is somewhat expensive, their portion of roasted Pernil (pork meat). Then the children go to sleep to get up very early and see in the little tree if the Child Jesus brought him his gift.
Here in Nigeria, Christmas is a joyous celebration. The season has a different feeling for both young and old.
For kids, they go about visiting friends and family while most adults just stay at home to welcome visitors.
A lot of Nigeria make sure they fill their pots with lots of chicken for consumption. Christmas is all about merriment and celebrating the season can't be taken away from us.
You gerrit joy
I use to make more money as a child then βΊοΈ
Christmas as children was great, whenever mom told me to take food or drink to someone, it is a must you to tip me.
I will intentionally wait in case you don't remember immediately, those money really mattered.
Do they only eat chicken for Christmas? In Venezuela we make a dish with chicken, beef, pork, olives, raisins and corn flour.
Oh, they prepare chicken as part of the meal. I should have explained better, thanks for calling me back to that.
In Nigeria, it is customary to attend a vigil on Christmas eve, there is always plenty of fireworks and knockouts to celebrate the season, as well as joyful noise of Christmas by 12am.
Both children and adults experience the season differently.
Children visit friends, relatives, and reception parks while wearing their new Christmas ball gowns because, if it's not a new ball gown, it's not Christmas, while the majority of adults stay at home to greet guests, cook festive feasts, and fry chicken.
Christmas is all about joy and getting together with loved ones to enjoy the holiday. People also visit orphanages and prisons to share gifts and show their support.
In Italy, one of the traditions is to place the statuette of the child Jesus inside the 'creche' or 'nativity scene'. Actually, it all starts on the 24th evening, when there is the religious service that announces and celebrates at midnight on the 24th (so as soon as the 25th begins) the birth of Jesus. In fact, only then can the statuette of the Infant Jesus be placed, not before (because he is not yet born according to Catholic tradition).
The tradition of Christmas Day in Venezuela is to get together at a relative's house, listen to gaitas (the typical music of these dates), eat hallacas (a bun wrapped in banana leaves), typical Christmas sweets and dance!
After midnight, the children are sent to sleep, so that the baby Jesus can come and leave the gifts, and on the 25th the magic continues when they wake up to see their faces of joy and surprise when they open the presents.
On Christmas day in Nigeria is a full celebration where there is a lot of food and drinks to be shared and also a time to show everyone around love.
In the Hindu oriented nation...there is no tradition as such...but yes I remember my dad bringing up cakes chocolates ..and share with all. We enjoy the holiday at home with home cooked delicies....we make every ocassion count.
Eating chocolate will always be a good plan, even if it's not Christmas.
Hehe...that for sure, but it is kind of Christmas gift...to us..enjoying the kidhood
The tradition in my place is to distribute gifts to my neighbors, regardless of their religion, the important thing is that sharing is beautiful
There will be friendly match for Communities. A lot of gift sharing in that day
Christmas eve is a vegetarian day in Poland. On that day we first fast, then eat Christmas eve supper which might include borscht with dumplings π₯ or a mushroom soup in other regions, fish, potatoes, peas with cabbage and many other varieties of vegetarian dishes, depending on the region of Poland.
On the Christmas Day however, we can finally eat meat again! In fact the house smells of so many dishes prepared earlier for that day, that most people (even children) stay up and go to midnight mass, so when we come back we can already eat those yummy βGoΕΔbkiβ π
I have a Venezuelan friend who was married to a Polish woman. When their children were young, they came to live in Venezuela and they grew up with our Christmas traditions.
Eventually they divorced and the kids, now older, went back to Poland with their mother. That first Christmas, they cried because they did not want to eat the typical dishes from there and they wanted our ham bread and the hallacas that are prepared in my country.
Aww π₯° Thatβs an amazing story! Very true though. We get very attached to the tradition of whichever country we grew up in. Now, as an adult I donβt really celebrate Christmas or follow the traditions, but whenever Iβm in Poland at that time (rarely) Iβm looking forward to borscht and dumplings π₯
Did the children get used to the new traditions? Or did the mum give in and gave them ham bread and hallacas? Btw, these sound amazing! Iβd love to try π
That first Christmas they refused to eat herring and other dishes. Their mom ended up making cheese noodles for them.
After that, I guess they got used to it.
Haha π If they were young enough they probably got used to it π
Family time. Lots of food
May the days before and after the days that adorn the spiritual preparation for the celebration of the birth of the son of our God be blessings for all.
Here in Argentina it tends to be very hot, so we usually get together as a family in the biggest house, we set up a pool for the kids and stay all night, lots of food and drink, but the family celebration is the key.
@temmylade @chatsunny this might interest you
Thanks darling β€

In Belgium, we celebrate Christmas mostly together with family and friends, and a good, very good meal. Mostly bourgondian style, like the paintings of Pieter Brueghel almost. There is plenty of everything: food, presents, drinks and love.
Opening presents!!!
Here in Nigeria, every Christmas celebration begins with a joyous knockouts by 12 midnight. It's always an exciting moment everywhere, since I was born, I have grown to see it that way followed by cooking rice by virtually all families with chicken and drinks. Children will be visiting the neighboring houses and the family will be dashing them money while the adult stay back to receive other children from other families.
Rice is always on the menu. π
In Nigeria it's not Christmas without rice.
Christmas Day in the Philippines is the most awaited time among all Filipinos. One of the traditions that is done in our country is the βNoche buenaβ.
Noche buena is the night of Christmas eve wherein we celebrate a special Christmas dinner as we share the special dishes with our family and loved ones after attending the Christmas eve mass or the Misa de Gallo.
And when midnight comes, everybody gets excited to open the Christmas presents under the Christmas tree, and then a Christmas party follows with lots of parlor games for all ages.
Moreover, Christmas will not be complete without social drinking with a blend of karaoke. It is all day and all night fun as we cherish priceless moments with our loved ones.
Here in Nigeria, the Christmas season is usually ushered in two months before December. In the sense that before the month of December arrives, there'll be signs of the incoming season all around the place.
At the markets Christmas decorations would be sold and Christmas hymns would be played almost everywhere till the end of December. It's always beautiful to see shop after shop decorated with pretty Christmas decorations.
Another thing is the knockouts and fireworks which are a must in Nigeria. By November, knockouts and fireworks can be heard almost everywhere and it's a good reminder that Christmas is around the corner. On Christmas Eve it's a show entirely because you wouldn't be able to take two steps without hearing the blast of either knockouts or fireworks.
It's really fun and it happens every year.
Another tradition in my country is the food prepared on that day. We still wonder where it's written in the constitution that Rice and Chicken Stew must be prepared every Christmas because out of 10 homes, 9 prepare Rice and Chicken Stew on Christmas day. It's something we all agreed on without even knowing about it and it's been a tradition since before I was born.
Lastly, many like to travel to their hometown to celebrate the season with family members, it's usually expected that you travel back home every Christmas to celebrate the season.
Thank you for reading and Merry Christmas! π
In Nigeria, Christmas is a special day and the activities performed is always a memorable one that both the old and young never try to miss. It is something majority plan ahead to enjoy and it is always nice to have people around to celebrate the festive season.
A lot of activities will be performed and a lot of beautiful places will be visited like going to the zoo, museum, amusement park eatery and so many other nice places which one wouldn't intend to miss.
In Venezuela we celebrate Christmas like this:
12-21 Spirit of Christmas, we already have the hallacas prepared and we make a dinner.
12-24 Christmas Eve, we make dinner with all our typical dishes and at 12 at night we distribute the toys that Santa brought.
25-12 It is when the children go for a walk with all their toys and without any inline skates they take them to a place where they can skate.
31-12 The year ends and we celebrate a Happy New Year, we dress in a red garment for love, a yellow one for prosperity, new garments and eat; this time it is a pasticho, salad, pork leg and bread.
We make many wishes eating a grape for each bell, we leave with a suitcase for the trips to arrive and many fireworks are burned.
Here in Nigeria, Christmas begins with knockout few days before and a mid night Christmas eve service will take place at different churches with their unique different activities.
And on the 25th, it begins by families preparing their different festive food delicacies which they will share with their families, neighbors and guests.
The children will take the foods to the neighbors house one after the other in their new beautiful Christmas clothes, shoes, hand bags for the ladies, sun glass (goggle as we all call it back then π)
Some neighbors will give the children money in return and they get to play with their friends discussing and counting how much each of them has gotten from the foods they carried around and what they are going to use the rest of the money for, after buying some few goodies from the cash π
The adults will stay back at home, welcoming and hosting guests and families that has come to celebrate with them.
Some young adults can also choose to go on a date or hangout with friends in the evening.
It is always a memorable and an enjoyment day and moments for everyone as you will be to spend some quality and joyful moments with families and love ones. And at the same time everything about that day will be a little special (The foods, wears, hair and mood)

Thanks dear
You are welcome π
