Last week, while I was preparing for the show, I forgot to mention the most important thing regarding HivePower, and I was kindly reminded about it by @felixxx (thanks for doing that! ๐)... The topic was Hive Delegations, but still, the explanation about the governance part of the HivePower had to be said! Well, that was a reminder that it's the time to talk about exactly that and we will dedicate the next show to governance on HIVE, and of course, Hive witnesses...
Created in Canva.com
I learned my lesson, so here are a few definitions important before we begin... :)
What is DPoS?
Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS) is the consensus algorithm behind Hive. In a DPoS algorithm, the selection of block producers (called โwitnessesโ on Hive) and all other consensus-based functions are decided based on the weight of staked funds supporting them.

What are HIVE Witnesses?
Witness is a position/role for the people who are chosen by the community (delegate trust) to support the platform and run consensus protocol to ensure the security and validity of transactions/blocks on the blockchain. A witness is responsible for signing and validating blocks for the Hive blockchain.

What is a Witness vote?
Voting/electing witnesses with account's stake

Now that we have the basics out of the way, what will we discuss in the show? If you take a look at the definition of a Hive witness, it looks like a very simple task... It has a couple of words that maybe some people can't understand, but in a nutshell, Hive witness is responsible for running the operational node for which they should ensure that the code is intact, and signs, validates and produces valid blocks!
But, isn't that what every Hive witness is doing? So, if everyone is doing well, how can we make a difference among them? That's where some other "attributes" come into place and some other questions and tweaks come into our mind...
- Is that witness a good representative of HIVE?
- Is the witness one of the developers of the HIVE blockchain?
- Is the witness running a project on HIVE?
- How much HivePower witness has? Is it important that it has some? How much?
- Does it support the community by curating their posts with its HivePower?
- Do I know him? Is he legit?
- What are the witnesses' views of HIVE?
Those are some of the questions that an ordinary Hivian can ask before casting a vote for some witness... At the moment, we have over 100 active HIVE witnesses, and every Hivian has 30 votes to cast, which means 30 witnesses to support by a vote...
How do you pick your 30? Are those questions from above important to you, or do you ask yourself some other questions before voting? Do you vote for witnesses at all?
How was it in the last show? As I already mentioned, we were discussing HivePower delegations, and as expected, we had a lot of different opinions on how to do it, when to do it, etc. I did record the show, but it's still not published as I was working on previous shows that were waiting in line to be published... I hope I will catch up with the current show during the next week... Sorry about that, but I was waiting for the 3Speak uploading function to come back online, but it didn't happen... I didn't like the idea of doing it on YouTube, but in this situation, there was no other solution... At least, the good side of YT recordings is that you can turn on subtitles in your native language!
For all the participants, there are some LEN tokens for attending the show, and some special rewards (in Ecency POINTS) for those who were the bravest and came on the voice during the show!!! Don't forget that NOBODY is obligated to talk in the show, so you CAN come to listen and engage with others in the text chat... ๐

๐ Vote for Liotes HIVE Witness HERE ๐
Don't forget to follow, reblog, and browse my Hivepage to stay connected with all the great stuff!
Iโll be there if nothing happens. This topic is always interesting and Iโm sure Iโll learn something new.
Oh, you know that we always have some surprising discussions where we all learn something... ๐
See you later!
I have just 4 or 6 witness I actually vote for and not more than that. A few times I have revoked the witnesses I vote for and vote other ones. Although my vote my not really matter, because I have a small stake.
I think sometimes I prefer to know the witnesses I vote for, to some understandable level.
I once revoked my witness vote for a person because they were in liason with a whale that incessantly DVs people.
So, I think people need to actually check the WV almost all the time
Thanks for sharing your workaround voting for witnesses! That's exactly what I would like to hear in the show... People sharing how they vote, and why they vote for some witnesses...
As a witness (with @Liotes), it hurts to see when someone revokes the vote, but that's normal and understandable... Not everyone has the same views about the work that some witnesses do... I noticed that people don't like many things that I said, or what Liotes is doing... For example... Trying to reward the valuable posts on HIVE, instead of automatically upvoting others is a bad thing in the eyes of some... :)
So, in general, I try not to take it personally... As our witness income goes back to the project, supporting token owners, and if someone wants to shoot in their own foot, well, let it be... ๐
Anyone who thinks is a bad thing probably doesn't have a thing for good content creation, automation of vote probably should mainly be to keep one's vote from getting to getting to 100% and that's it.
However, I don't think a lot of people are expressive about their witness choices, which I think we should do at all times.
Would be cool to know also the meaning of the values "miss" and "price" in the witnesses list table
MISS is a number of missed blocks... If a node is offline, or has some issue, then it can "miss" a block...
PRICE is the current HIVE price that witnesses need to update regularly...
So they are important too somehow... I also check what apr for hbd they offer
Sad that I missed it last week. Should be good to catch this time. Are Hive Witnesses also called Node Runners? ๐ค
๐
Hehehe... You missed the last week's fun!
Node runners, maze runners,... ๐
I'll be there!
Sending you an Ecency curation vote!
Thank you very much!
See you soon!
Excuse me today and couple days more I'll be absent due to being on the road and also of upcoming birthday party
Now worries, man! When you have time, you are always welcome to join!!
Enjoy the B-day party!!!
It's an interesting topic. I haven't used all my votes, but I have found that the HBD APR rate is a factor for me. It's probably because I have HBD in savings, but there are definitely a lot of different factors on deciding which witnesses fit.
HBD APR is relevant only for the first 20 Top witnesses, as their median (I think it is median) number... What the rest witnesses "signaling" doesn't count at all...
Have fun! Too bad I can't join this week! :(

Thanks! We will try to have fun! :)
See you another time!
