I think this is one of the most important questions people ask themselves.
I have read a lot of literature on this topic. Neurophysiologists, hypnologists, esotericists. I think that with a very high probability - our consciousness exists even after the death of the body.
If you lived 88 years and there, in another dimension, you would have a rest. What would be interesting for you to do?
If so, that also means that the consciousness of animals also exist after they die.
All Animals including man has the same outcome; they die and return to the ground to which they were formed.
Nothing exist after death just as a tree cease to exist after it is being chopped down.
The body dies. The soul is eternal. This is how all religions teach.
But that is not true. First, what do you think is the soul?
This is true. The soul is an eternal substance, a part of God. It will retain all the memory of the life of the body in our 3rd dimension and will exist forever in the higher dimensions of the Universe (where the very concept of time is not the same as in the material universe).
At Genesis chapter 2 and verse 7 God formed the first man and blow into his nostrils the breath of life, it was after then that he became a living soul so before then he wasn't living and his soul didn't exist. so that means that if the breath of life should be taken from man then he is no longer a living soul, the soul dies.
I don't think the soul dies. She either "burns in hell or lives in heaven", that is, she has different levels of her spiritual growth.

In one of the ancient books I do read which is called The Bible; at Ezekiel chapter 18 and verse 4, there made us to understand that the soul of the Father and the soul of the son to God it belongs, that the soul who sin is the one who will die.
The confusion therein is because those concepts have been explain in real term and meaning.
Body: stand for the physical features of the human. Also, the flesh. Existing because of the working abilities of its parts, supported by food, water and oxygen.
Conscious: the mental set of right and wrong. Also, the mind. In our subconsciousness, it seems like an inner voice is directing us on what to do. Its not a being but our thinking ability directing us.
Soul: the totality of the being. Nothing as a flesh or in the mind can be refer as the soul. Rather the whole human being with its mind and body. Both animal and human are soul. If its dies, As the oxygen, food and water cant be fully processed. The soul or human ceased to exist again.
Death is the opposite of living, so if the soul dies, everything about it is not living as the body is decaying, so the mind or conscious ceased too.

Fact! Apart from the involuntary (reflex) actions, that medula oblongata can interpret, which other part of the soul can interpret or perceive any impulse? The brain! Its of note that medula oblongata can't be clearly differentiate from the brain. Impulse from the world captured by sense organs are the effect that a soul to perceive the world. A soul here represent the human being. Its not a part of brain or any part of the body or exist alone or separated from the human body but the totality of the human being.
I don't think so. There is a soul in another dimension. The body is part of it. But even without a body, it can exist.
We must understand a simple truth - The body does not have a soul, the soul has a body.
Without body, it can exist as what? In what form? As a human or spirit?
Form is the concept of our material universe, where every body has a form consisting of atoms (born of stars). I think that in other dimensions there are no such forms of matter. It's probably some kind of energy.

"Kind of energy", since humans can achieve an act. Its a kind of energy and a soul likewise other lower animals like dogs etc. They are souls.
