Is it time

They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.

Is it time...for change.

I've been around a lot in time and space meaning I've lived a lot of years and have traveled the world extensively and across that time and space have experienced many things, seen good and bad, done good and bad I guess depending on perspective, and it's all captured within my mind - I think about it sometimes.

I've avoided news services for many years, something I've written about a few times in the past; it's propaganda designed to destabilise, influence and control people. That's not to say I'm uniformed, only a fool would think that of me, I get my information from more reliable sources and am careful with what I take in, most is rubbish and unimportant however there's many things that effect me directly or indirectly and it often leaves me wondering about the future of the human race considering the (mostly) unsustainable ways in which we act.

These thoughts leave me thinking about time...and I'm pretty sure it's time for change in the right direction rather than the greedy, hubristic, selfish, consumerist and generally disgusting ways in which human beings behave.

Will it happen though, can it? Do I hold hope that it might? No not really, there just isn't enough people all pulling in the same (the right) direction at the same time or with any real conviction.

I know many may disagree because in their little microcosm of a world in which they reside things may be peachy but a look, I mean an honest and open look, around the world outside that safe little space in which many bury their heads, will reveal a different reality.

I wrote a little post a while back about the unsustainable way in which we fish and treat our oceans which you can see here if you're so inclined, just one example of the fuckassery human beings seem to think is acceptable. There's others also of course; wars that continue for no good reason - religious or greed reasons among others - inequality between genders, discrimination, slavery and people trafficking, corporate crime, greed and globalisation, environmental issues, rising crime rate, rogue-states and general terrorism and all the way down to the little people like you and I who have a constant and unexplainable desire for more of everything, one in every colour, the latest fucken iPhone and a propensity for greed and...well, you get the idea. There's a lot wrong and I think humanity is responsible for every single bit of it - there's no one else to blame.

What does the future hold? Nothing good, is often my answer to that however it could be different, we, all of us, have the power to make effective and timely change...we just need to do it...but probably won't.

So, with this in mind I have a question: What is it time for?

Are you a little concerned with the way things are going? Are you the head in sand type living happily and oblivious in your little micro-world? Do you think everything is going well and it's all good as my sister is inclined to say when things are not actually fucken good at all.

Feel free to comment below and tell me what you think it's time we changed; choose a specific thing and explain why you feel it needs to change and why, maybe also why you think it's not being changed in a fast enough, or broad enough way. Basically, just comment on whatever you like I guess.

I don't see things going in a good direction right now. Things are just kinda messed up. It just seems time is making things worse, not better as it is supposed to.

Living in a country like Nigeria isn't the best. I know no country as it best, but Nigeria is just out of it. Past are meant to be looked at, and you should kinda be grateful for the present and hope for the future. But, right here, the past looks better, the present unbearable, and the future looks to be very bad. Nothing is right, though, I am hoping and also working towards making things right for me. That's what I have been doing with my time.

Trying to make things better despite the odds here and there.

I see posts from your country, read some of them when they interest me, and am often left speechless; I know it can't be easy living there and is probably quite unpleasant which is sad. I don't know all the issues but I'd say that greed has a lot to do with it which is, quite clearly, avoidable...but only if the humans being greedy choose to avoid being greedy. (Which they won't.)

I think the only thing to do is what you're doing, being proactive towards creating a better future for yourself. As long as that's not adding to the overarching problem for everyone else (through greed for instance) then go for it.

It isn't easy, and you are right, greediness is the word. I have been spending much lately for things that don't even have quality as they did before, and I just have to get them because they are needed. It is very sad, and my heart always goes to those who could barely afford things when it were a bit fair.

Yeah, that's it. I can't for anything trample on others just because I want to get there, no. I wasn't taught that way and didn't grow up with that.

Thank you 😊

Keep on keeping on...you have no other choice really, and to keep moving forward is the only way through something.

Yes, moving on is just the only option legs and that's what I am doing. It is the only drive left to survive this terror.

The world itself needs a change, but to go back and retake certain things, a change is not bad, on the contrary if it is for the better, it is a good way to see it, of course sometimes it costs, there is no doubt, to adapt again, to go back in time, is what I would like.

I'd like to live in simpler times, I used to when I was a kid, but somehow the world got complicated and spun out of control and it's the world we have to live in unfortunately. I try to simplify my life though as much as possible, and am happier for it.

Nothing is going well over here. I just got home rn and I was thinking when will things get better, cause it doesn’t look like it will, so much hardship on people over here, rn here the rich feel it, it’s not excluding anyone.
It’s time everyone here stand up for what is right and what is right alone, change the orientation of favoritism.

Why do you feel people don't stand up to it though, why doesn't change happen?

I feel some people don’t stand up cause they feel it will later be in vain. There was a time people stood up, everyone in the nation did, we were expecting some changes, but guess what?
We are back at it again. The same things people died for, suffered for!! We are back at it again. Now everyone feel if they stand up again it will be in vain.
Some people just don’t have what they need, an hungry person, a person living way below his/her means wouldn’t stand up cause the said people have weaponized their means of living against them. Imagine someone who haven’t eaten in the last 24 hrs, will he/she even have the strength to stand up against anything. No, he wouldn’t even dare.
Some are just beneficiaries to these evil so they wouldn’t even dare speak up because it’s works for them.

And yet, standing up is what's required...so, the people are also to blame for the situations they find themselves in. It happens all over the world.

Yes, they are. I feel so light letting this out though, I really hope we get it right. But at the end I hope everyone do what is right cause that is the only way to get it right, if the leader do the right thing, the followers do that also, everywhere will be a better place.

Hello Galen, I am certain, for me it is not an opinion, that the world is going badly and it seems to be getting worse. If I had a magic power I would eliminate greed, I suppose it is one of the problems of the world as you have already exposed in other occasions. A big hug

Greed is a powerful force and it can make people do some pretty reprehensible things which tend to become a habit they continue on with. Eliminating it would make the world a much better place instantaneously.

I am not commenting anything new, I totally agree

we, all of us, have the power to make effective and timely change...we just need to do it...but probably won't.

That's what I think and that's how it makes sense. It's not going to happen... I don't think mankind has ever been more divided, disbelieving, and confused than now. I don't see how the necessary numbers can come together to push for the right solution. Nothing will unite us. No cataclysm and no good example. We've all become so untrusting of each other.
I am glad there are still people worried about the future, there is still hope. It is impossible to physically unite and bring them together, but maybe they can create a network, like a blockchain (that is if I understand what a blockchain is) of those who advocate and can act to save the planet, both physically and politically. I think that if there is hope in solving these problems, it is also given by technology. And education!

It's a sad reality I'm afraid. Sure, there's good aspect but not enough of them and not consistently enough to affect real change, in my opinion.

I'm not sure where things will go, no where good though, and I think many will suffer in one way or another. Can it improve? Yes it can, but will it? Time only will reveal.

This is also my perception. I try to remain optimistic but I don't have much to base it on. I wondered why after antiquity, especially Greek antiquity, a Middle Ages could follow. I was glad that such a thing could not happen again. Now I'm not at all sure it can't happen again.

Well said and I agree. I'm sure those in England/UK didn't expect the Dark Ages when the Romans left, but things declined and much was lost. It's cyclic I guess.

It is certainly cyclical. Unfortunately, it's not to our advantage now...

I think we have been going off the rails for a while now. Nevermind the news stories, just scroll down to the comments section of those stories and that will give you a pretty good idea of the mindset we are dealing with these days. People really let their true colors show when they are hiding behind a keyboard and a screen. I think we need more empathy. People just need to take a moment and put themselves in the other person's shoes and they might understand some of these complex situations a little better.

I think, on the individual level, people are so distracted that they struggle to find that empathy you mention, can't connect as well with others and fail to see the truly important things as important... consumerism at its worst. Multiply that by seven billion and we have a planet that's on the wrong track.

For sure!

How right you are, dear friend.
The world is upside down because of hatred and all those things you mention. You know where I live and here every day it is more and more difficult to live at least as one would like to. To the point that families have been divided for many reasons and because of immigration. I think that sometimes if we look at others we are doing well. Bad for those in their countries who are starving and have unjust wars because of the hatred and power of others. And that hurts me a lot. You are very analytical and I like to read what you write. Like you, I don't like to hear and read a lot of news that confuse us. We have to survive. There is no other way. It is a pleasure to read what you write. Have a good Thursday. And take care of yourself.🥰❤️

Hatred is one of the contributing factors for sure, greed and hubris too. It's quite sad that people have to accept sub-stabdaed living conditions because other people's greed and I suppose there really is a better way forward...people don't take it though, and that's the big tragedy.

Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it.

🥰❤️

Well, I believe that change must be personal. Each person must be touched by something or someone that tells them: stop, think, love yourself and love others, do you really need this or that? And that's how the world will change. It's not a revolution of people united and fighting that will change this. The fiercest battle is within ourselves. and what we do to show those around us that this is the way? I believe it's time to show that path, but starting from oneself.

I agree, but I don't see many willing to make that change and so the progress (if there is any progress at all) is slow; in the interim the world/society sinks lower and lower into the quagmire of its own creation.

I agree with you though, as we have discussed before.

I wish at times I could find that sand you speak of. Quiet the noise for awhile. Sooo much NOISE.!!

Noise man, societies' babble, is so disruptive and invasive and I think one of the tricks to a better existence is to learn how to shut it out as much as possible. I have my ways, as I know you do.

It's time for everyone to take responsibility for their lives, for their actions. No more making excuses.
I can't help but feel optimistic. Not for everyone or everywhere, but for some. I have to, I've got 3 daughters afterall and I want a better world for them.
Very important topic, this.
I hope you are well @galenkp. I'm super busy, juggling work, family life xxxx

Responsibility for sure, but most don't know how. Ownership and discipline is also required, but yet again it's something people don't seem able to affect. Some can, as you say, but in a wholesale way? Nope.

Hopefully your daughter's have a better world, we'll know soon enough.

A lot of people are oblivious to what's going on around the world, and a lot of them want to remain that way. As long as they are not affected, everything's good. Ignorance is bliss, as the saying goes. I think the world has been going to shit for a while now. It is one of the major reasons why I don't want to have kids. I don't want them to live in a hellhole when they grow up.

I think change is still possible, but it is going to take a lot of time and effort. A lot of the youth have been/are being brainwashed, and we need to improve education as a whole. A lot of the governments and financial systems need an overhaul. We need to have people that look out for the good of the many in important positions. And then we need to maintain that. Because it only takes one selfish, greedy person to take it all down again.

I concur, the head in the sand strategy feels safe and comfortable for some, the alternative of seeing the reality is often too confronting...that doesn't negate the fact the reality is there though.

You mention education and the government, I agree for sure...but surely some of the onus rests with the individual.

but surely some of the onus rests with the individual.

Oh, definitely. Some wrong teachings like "cats can fly" can be easily changed because of facts and truths. But there are some things that are difficult to adjust. Political views and religion are some of those things. Some of those are learned in school and at home. Some people are so brainwashed, and don't have the critical thinking to change.

Yep, politics and religion certainly have a lot to answer for.

I must be crazy but I'm not... or I am, but I think the same as you. Things are going very badly and it's the responsibility of human beings, of all of us.

Many people, if not most of them, watch television like fools and believe everything that is explained there. I am also informed and from other sources, not the ones that move the masses and try to control everyone's minds.

The reason for everything from wars to the smallest thing is the control of humanity, that is the only goal and it is up to us to open our eyes and see the reality.

To change? We can, but the first step is the one I said before: SEE.

Then the following .... because it is complicated, I think that humanity has always been controlled and we the crazy ones have always gone against the current.

But if I must name only one thing: stop watching information transmitted by the most listened channels, so they enter the minds. The media are the fourth estate, that's what a professor always told me. With clean minds you can think, you can have a critical sense, but first you have to clean your head.

The media outlets are to blame for many of the societal problems we face as people are brain washed into thinking certain ways and don't have the individual thought to find their own paths; sad really and evidence of the dumbing down of society.

I have nothing to add, I think 100% like you

What is it time for? A move away from individualism and consumerism. The idea that I can do life alone and my way regardless of the cost to my fellow man or the planet. Society is the worse for this mindset and whilst I can’t change anyone else’s mind for them - I can choose how I will this day.

A move away from individualism and consumerism

Legit and no doubt.

Too many walk with blinkers on, looking neither left nor right, others simply do what forefathers did, or spew diabolic ideas for all to hear, not understanding implications long term.

No hope with majority, a few will retreat to live in open spaces finding their own way sustainably (very few), never enough to observe massive affect. Humans remain tribal in social bubbles.

Our thoughts always align on this topic, and have once again. I agree completely.

Have an amazing day, stay on track....

A few times I got into a debate with younger colleagues and friends who have smaller children...
What is their thinking about politics, ecology, environmental protection in the country where we live?
What do they think we should leave to our children and the generations that come after us?
What kind of country, what kind of nature, earth, what kind of air, water, forests and grass...
I think they don't care too much, as if they are slightly drugged and don't see what's going on around us.

I was an activist in the past, went to protests and eco-guards, collected garbage in nature...
Now, as an older young men 🙂, I am no longer worthy to be a leader, but I am here to join them, if they lead...

About the situation in the world, they say, probably like most people in the world, "so what we can do is far away...".
And they don't understand how small the world is and how quickly that situation can spread to the region or even the whole world. ..
What to do? The fact is that the strongest countries in the world decide on the future of humanity, so it is important that the population of those largest countries in the world choose their leaders wisely, who, by their actions, cut the hat for all of us... They enter into conflicts, they support them, they do not prevent them, they leave agreements on the fight against climate change, on nuclear weapons...

We need to make wise choices and support the right leaders, otherwise we are close to ruin...

You're right, your last line particularly, but I also think there's so few leaders (politicians) out there who gain enough support to do much good. Also, once people get into power, those with all the good intentions, they seem to change and focus more on feathering their own nest and those of their buddies. Humans don't seem to be on a good path generally, irrespective of their leaders. I think the world is going to be a terrible place in 50 years...I'll be dead so I won't have to worry about it. I'll be somewhere saying, I told you so. (Or I'll be nowhere depending on what comes after death.)

Also, once people get into power, those with all the good intentions, they seem to change and focus more on feathering their own nest and those of their buddies.

No matter how righteous a politician is, he easily slips and drowns in the mass of all the others... We had one after 2000. who did not want to side with such political scum at any cost, so he was assassinated in 2003. That's when I knew that in our country, an uncertain, dark future was upon us.

I'll be dead so I won't have to worry about it.
I won't be alive in 50 years either, but I feel bad when I think what kind of world those who come after us will live in.

Yep, assassinations happen, probably more often than we realise. Greed is a powerful force and the actions people take because of it are often reprehensible.
