Handspun Alpaca Shawl in Progress

in NeedleWorkMonday3 years ago (edited)

Hello beautiful makers and creators of Hive!

It’s been a little while since my last post. I have tried to stop by once each day to see what everyone is creating and posting. I really have enjoyed all the wonderful posts with regards to the use of jeans fabrics and the contest.

Today is my 53rd birthday and I am so thankful for this diverse and supportive group of people! God bless you all!

My current objective is to get projects completed, especially with the yarn I currently have on hand.

Below I have taken some photos of the handspun alpaca yarns that are being used in my shawl. I want this article of clothing to be useful and used daily so it needs to tie in the back. I am getting close, and am so excited to have a project for my handspun yarns.

The inner medium brown yarn was spun by the owner of the alpaca fibers. Marcia lives very close to me and I have met her alpacas before. It’s been a few years but if I go back to purchase some more fiber I take some photos. Alpacas are the sweetest animals!

The rest of the fibers I spun many years ago and am a little embarrassed at the inconsistency but that’s how you learn, right? Regardless, I love the colors and the fact that my handspun is being made into something I plan on wearing daily.

Much love to you all. Take care and God bless!

Happy birthday to you 🎉
And yes!!!!!!!! Alpakas are the best. I once had the opportunity to walk a bit with one and pet it - ohhh so soft, it felt like a cloud and it was such a lovely companion. I only once used the yarn, because its very expensive here, but I remember it to be very smooth and warm. So your shawl will be wonderful to wear.
I cannot see any faults in your handspun yarn, quite the differences, it looks very special and crochets up wonderfully.

Thank you so much for your many kind words @neumannslava! Aren't we our worst critics? I am definitely excited to wear this shawl. I will be making more for friends and relatives. I love making things for the people near and dear to my heart.

I also got to pet an alpaca. So soft! I try to pet any animal that comes close. My list includes a wombat, a grey kangaroo, a koala, most common farm animals and pets, a camel...still want to touch a musk ox, a reindeer, a capybara...my "bucket list."

Ha ha ha! What a "bucket list" indeed! I did ride a camel at a fair once with my children. That was fun. He was a VERY tall animal.

Wombat yes!!!!!!!! So cute 🥰 I guess I have to copy our to-pet-list

I love alpacas and their lovely wool. Looking forward to your results.

They are the sweetest of animals! I would love to have some of my own someday. :-)

Agreed! My dream retirement involves angora rabbits and either alpacas or Jacob sheep.

Do you spin @fiberfrau?

Not yet. I did buy a drop spindle, though.

That wool looks lovely, so soft and I love the colours.
A wonderful project!

Happy Birthday 😍

Thank you so much @shanibeer! You cannot go wrong when using the natural colors of the animals.

Alpaca yarn is so soft and projects you make with it so squishy :)

Alpaca is definitely a lovely fiber to work with in my knitting and crocheting.

Wow nice thanks for sharing

Thank you!

In Peru there are also alpacas, although they are not easy to pet, quite the contrary. One alpaca put its ears back and spat something greenish-yellow at us (not to be forgotten, haha). That nuanced colour looks great, it exudes elegance, happy birthday and many more years to come!. I'm glad to keep reading posts from this community.

Sounds like the tame/not-so-tame llamas here in northeast Kansas. Llamas are sometimes used as guard animals for sheep farms. While we do have the occasional bobcat or mountain lion here, we do have plenty of obnoxious coyotes that run in packs and eat whatever they can. I think I will rely on donkeys and dogs to help with the safety of my flock.

Thanks for the interesting and insightful comment @inici-arte! I am actually surprised at how nice the shawl is turning out (and am glad to use my first attempt at spinning alpaca yarn on something so special).

OMG happy birthday friend, many blessings to you.🌹
Your creations are all great, don't stop sharing them, that laborious work looks beautiful!!!!

You are so sweet to say so @bleuclair! Thank you!

Nice to see you again @cuddlekitten! It's been a little while!
