It has only taken a handful of years, but finally I have a MAX Quora Gladiator. The only reason I have been able to get it to max is by spending glint and getting more merits to spend on packs. What has been annoying is that I have barely got any legendaries, even though I am also spending potions and have opened heaps of packs.
The benefit of the maxed Quora is minimal, as all it gains is an additional melee attack point, but who knows, perhaps it makes a difference. Quora used to be on most people's wish list, but as newer releases have come in regular sets, many of the gladiators are pretty lame, with the exception of the no-attack ones, because Weapons Training has made them very useful in all formats.
Would be nice to get some wins.
Splinterlands Proposal Support
When Splinterlands started (as Steemmonsters on Steem), I wasn't overly interested in it for numerous reasons, the main one being that I wasn't gaming at all at the time. However, what a lot of people might not remember, is that the reason for the success of Steemmonsters was that it got a massive amount of support from the Steem community, who not only invested into the game directly, but also used a lot of their Steem to invest into the game too.
Individuals backing their web3 experience is a big usecase for the blockchain.
Now on Hive, we have ways to fund development through the Decentralized Hive Fund, which allows for proposals to be submitted and funded based on the votes of staked users. The way this works is that once a proposal is submitted which outlines what it is for and the amount asked per day, those with Hive Power can vote and put their weight behind to show support. In order to pass and get funded, the proposal needs to get over the amount in the return proposal by @gtg, which currently sits at almost 28 million Hive Power.
This return proposal doesn't earn anything, just think about it as a bar that a proposal submission needs to get over to get funded. Once reached, the proposal will start getting funded on the date it is set to start for the length of the proposal as long as the support level remains over the return proposal amount. This means that a proposal can also be defunded at any time by removing votes. This means that if any abusive actions or if a proposal isn't returning enough value to the community, its support is easy to remove.
Splinterlands Support proposal
At the moment, Splinterlands needs some community support to help with its development and return to a point of stability and profitability. @yabapmatt has created a proposal looking for support looking for 2777 HBD a day in order to help the Splinterlands development. That sounds like a lot, doesn't it? But, in terms of development for a game such as Splinterlands, it is very little indeed.
I am supporting it
Now, just so you know, while I am a relatively large investor into Splinterlands, @yabapmatt and I haven't always seen eye to eye on things well before Steemmonsters started, but after meeting him in Krakow back in 2018, we parted amiably. While still not a player or investor int the game at that point, I recognized that the importance of the gaming development on Steem (now Hive) is vital for the community, whether I was playing or not.
It still is.
If you want to support this proposal like I am, you can use the link below and click support. If you want to remove your support at a later date if you think it isn't worth it, just go into the proposal screen and unsupport it.

The Splinterlands Community
Now, this is where it gets a bit sticky.
One of my biggest complaints about the Splinterlands community is that the majority don't invest back into the Hive ecosystem and especially Hive Power. Most of the gamers there don't seem to see the need in doing so, and will rather spend their money and earning on cards and game assets, rather than the very infrastructure that makes it all possible. Splinterlands is a web3 game and as such, requires decentralized infrastructure to operate. You might not care about whether your game is decentralized in this way or not, but you should.
If you want to be in crypto - do it properly.
As we can probably see from the proposal is that the largest supporters of the proposal, aren't necessarily even Splinterlands players themselves. A lot of the Splinterlands players who might have been on the blockchain for many years, have almost zero (relatively) Hive Power, despite them earning a huge amount in Splinterlands assets over the years. What this means is that instead of being part of securing the infrastructure of the game that has helped them earn so handsomely, they have either bought back into Splinterlands, or siphoned value out to something else. Some of these players have earned very, very well over the years and should have been building into HP also, in my opinion.
If they had, this proposal would have no issues in passing, would it?
The value of the 28,000,000 HIVE POWER return proposal is currently only 6 million dollars worth of HIVE. Now that sounds like a lot, but remember that over the last years of Splinterlands, the amount of value that has been generated through the game has been immense. Part of the value proposition of Splinterlands itself is owning assets, and I think it is time that players started recognizing that the infrastructure of the game is an asset also.
Not only this, had the community of Splinterlands players been regularly doing this, they would have also been able to better support the player-generated content in the Hive community, by rewarding it, rather than relying on the Splinterlands account and other non-playing stakeholders to reward it instead.
Crypto and blockchain is about empowering users to be able to take control of their financial and consumer experience. Control comes with responsibility and consequences.
Take some responsibility - or pay the consequences.
Powered by Hive
As said, despite my complaints about how many of the Splinterlands community has failed to support their own game development, I am supporting the proposal anyway, because it is good for the Hive community that Splinterlands not only survives, but thrives. It ahs brought a huge amount of people into crypto and I hope it will bring many, many more. I also hope that in the future, @yabapmatt and the devs do a better job of value sharing and encouraging players to take part in the Hive ecosystem also.
There are so many benefits to having a real decentralized crypto community on Hive, and I believe that we can do a far better job of supporting each other to generate value across the entre ecosystem. The more success there is, the more success there will be. More games, more experiences, more services, more people, more benefits. But all of this gets tied together at the blockchain level itself.
Hive could be amazing.
It is up to us to MAX it

Voted for this proposal as I love both Splinterlands and Hive and don't want them to get separated if possible. And congrats on maxing Quora. I'm still 1 bcx short to get it at level 4 but was currently have 60k merits to open some packs.
Separation has its costs too.
60k merits sounds like fun!
Dang, almost $3000 per day? What have they been doing with all of the money they earned from pack sales? Especially after they went and jacked up the price of packs over the past two releases. Personally, I need to see some better stewardship with the funds they already have before I am willing to commit to giving them more.
It sounds like a lot, doesn't it? But, what has the outcome been from that rally car so far? Not sure it is worth the couple hundred thousand HBD it has got for sponsorship.
The DHF system is broken in general, I won't argue with you there. I don't think that gives them a free pass to just keep taking advantage of it. I'd like to see a breakdown of how the requested money is going to be used. I feel as voters we at least deserve that.
I think they will have to once it goes further.
As far as I understand... the pack sales support the developers and creatives... but this proposal is for additional funds to spend on marketing. It's essentially an investment to help grow Splinterlands (and hopefully also Hive).
The problem is people who come in and play splinterlands need to be buying hive too. If they just ignore the chain and cash out it's not going to end well.
I don't disagree at all... but there's a good chance lots of players on Splinterlands had no idea the game was run on the Hive blockchain. You can do almost everything you need from within the game.
That's probably true, but I think that makes it even worse that they are trying to get money from HIVE. You're basically asking users who are invested in the chain to support people who don't even know or care about it.
Would be nice if it worked to grow the entire ecosystem.
I am all for this, the collapse of Splinterlands would be catastrophic. It can't happen.
Yep - it would suck.
I think it is in everyone's interests for Splinterlands to survive and the good thing about this proposal is that there are some good discussions taking place. The importance of decentralisation is important and what I have liked about Splinterlands the most is the assets on Hive are much cheaper than say those of ETH.
My only concern is that this is likely to be the first of many proposals and will the game be able to get back onto a profitable footing?
I think profitability is going to depend on bull markets and whether the Splinterlands community itself is able to do what many on Hive have done, and not sell everything. Sustainability takes more than just a sell high and buyback low.
my main concern with the proposal is that they seem to be just burning money now and are not a sustainable company. There are so many things broken with their economy that this money might not make a noticeable difference. They have had several chances to fix things, but here we are with everything down by 99%. Maybe it would truly be better if they move to another chain.
There are costs with moving to another chain too.
I totally agree with you here, with the current state of the game economy and basically 0 earning potential for new players to be enticed in by its gonna be hard to turn this shit around. I pulled a djinn oshannus early on when i started playing and was well happy, then sold that and bought a bunch of cards I needed more, new players dont get that. Its basically pay to play now with no reason to collect older editions as they wont appreciate in time or provide any bonus to play/earnings.
Part of me is scared of what would happen in Splinterlands would leave Hive chain. Will my cards still have any value? What about splinterlands contests on Hive? They are my biggest earners so no longer being able to participate in them would hurt a lot.
Still they have my
wandAXE.Hopefully if it survives, they will learn from the over extension of last bullrun.
Wow, it is really nice that you made this post. I think you are one of the authors with a large reader/follower base, and this should help inform more people of the proposal, and hopefully get it more support. I do think SPL has given a lot of exposure and benefits to Hive, so I hope the proposal passes.
I hope it gets supported - it is still only at 60%
I hope so too. I like the Hive blockchain, and SPL leaving it won't do it any favors. But as you've said, it seems a lot of our playerbase hasn't really invested much in Hive. I have heard that some whales like Bubke have staked a good amount of Hive just to vote.
Thanks for sharing! - @azircon
Hopefully it helps :)
😧🙁
Seems a lot, but it is worth it for now I believe.
I am in support for this proposal as well. Splinterlands was what brought me into Hive and I still think it's beneficial for the ecosystem. I do think that the HP issue is an problem but many of them were focused more on the game. There was a point where I did spend some HBD to buy cards but I never gave up on increasing my HP.
If everyone had gone about 10% into HP, this proposal would have passed easily. Support what you use, right?
Yea. I think people should support both Hive and Splinterlands.

I believe supporting game development is crucial for long-term success. Your investment in both Hive and Splinterlands is so great brother. Hope everything goes well
It won’t make sense if Splinterlands and Hive get to separate
And it seem like this proposal will be for the benefit of the two platforms
I don’t know much about Splinterlands but I made my research on this proposal and found out that the two platforms will benefit from it so it’s a good one

Honestly? I didn't realize that by supporting Splinterlands so much I wasn't supporting Hive or not taking responsibility. I thought that by supporting Splinterlands I was also supporting Hive. I've taken on an enormous amount of risk in the game and have probably extracted a tiny fraction of what I've put in. It's only now that I'm hearing that this behavior has been irresponsible for the chain. I'm not trying to be confrontational, I just don't know what some people want from us. We don't know what we don't know.
I voted for it. We would be fools not to . If Splinterlands leaves for another blockchain then it’s the death nail in the Hive. Also when you compare what the DHF is giving out to other projects it’s actually not too big of an amount. They are Hives largest on boarders I imagine . Well either them or Leo . We spent the guts of 200k on a rally car since the start of the year . $200k. Madness. I’m thinking there is bad blood somewhere along the line here and the Hive whales are not getting their own back . Well well well . Look who’s come crawwwwwwwwling back . It will probably pass on the 11th hour . Just let them sweat for a bit .
Sorry to see this post late after another weekend camping, but this is a great call to action for the Web3 gaming community. Splinterlands is designed to be run by a DAO of its participants and I'm so excited for Steem Monsters Inc to be naming those steps to solidify that future with the validator node software.
The next and crucially final step, for the SPSDAO after the node software release is to ratify a 4-year plan (cycle dependent?) to ensure future rewards for battles (ranked/tourney/brawl), land, and node validators/holders. The voting can be set up like it was for tournaments and different ideas will need a threshold of SPS funding just like the DHF proposal works with Hive Power.
Finally, a fairly strong and valid called shot at the SPL community for not holding onto its Hive if/when acquired. For my first year on Hive I would only put my hive to the LP with vouchers while maintaining 420 HP between my accounts. Over my 2.5 years I've likely tripled that close to 1200 HP with a growing stack in HBD.
Since the day I committed to doing the actifit and BOTD content earlier this year, I've kept all my rewards on Hive instead of taking them to Splinterlands. Any of my Hive staking rewards from my stake of BEE I've pumped into HP on those power-up days. Need more Bees!
Not such a great sign that Splinterlands missed the first day of funding without some big Hiver voters. Dang!
