Duty drop

Do your duty in all things, like the old Puritan. You cannot do more; you should never wish to do less.

- Robert E. Lee -

A little while ago I decided I wanted needed a new holster to replace a thigh-rig holster I'd been using for a particular handgun. It's not that the thigh-rig was wrong for the firearm, just wrong for what I'd be using the firearm for moving forward. I decided upon a Kydex holster by an American company called Bladetech. Kydex is a thermoplastic acrylic-polyvinyl chloride material that molds nicely into different shapes (through thermo-molding) and has a multitude of uses including firearm holsters. It's be perfect for in-field operations and all weather conditions.

The top image is a picture of the Bladetech Classic OWB I ended up purchasing and it's mounted to my gun belt with my CZ P09 9mm semi-auto in the holster.

I purchased the Bladetech Classic OWB (outside the waistband) with the Tek-Lok attachment, waited a few weeks (it's a long way from America to Australia), and when it arrived got it mounted up as above, adjusted and tested. It was awesome...albeit with a small issue that made it less awesome.

Essentially, being located right on my belt made it awkward to draw the handgun and awkward means slow; nope, that was not going to fucken work for me. It was a little too high meaning an awkward left-side-lean to get it drawn quickly - I like to keep my body straight when I draw, no leaning because it takes time to get back into a good shooting posture. No worries though, I just needed the duty drop & offset attachment. All good, back to the Bladetech website.

Three or four weeks later, usurpingly Australia hadn't gotten any closer to America in the intervening weeks, and my adaptor arrived...that was today.

See above for an image of the adaptor packaged up, nothing too unusual I guess, just typically utilitarian packaging.

Above is a side-by-side comparison of the exact same holster with the duty drop & offset adaptor fitted; you'll note how much lower it's mounted in the lower shot with the duty drop & offset fitted as opposed to the image above it with the standard Classic OWB mounted directly to the belt.

I set to work getting it sorted out after work today and once I'd pulled the Tek-Lok attachment off the holster and got the duty drop and offset adaptor mounted and the entire thing mounted on my belt I spent some time drawing from it (drawing the handgun) and was really happy with where it sits, lower than just the holster itself upon the belt.

The top two images above show the holster without the duty drop & offset adaptor and the bottom two shot it with. It might seem like only a small difference but it makes a huge difference in the time it takes to draw and acquire the target and squeeze off some rounds; it means the body doesn't have to "bend" around the handgun to draw.

I'm pretty happy with the quality and fit and the improvement I've gained in the time it takes to draw the handgun is awesome;l I'm pretty sure it'll be good workable system moving forward and now...well, I have a though-rig holster system without a handgun and you know what that means...yep, I need a new handgun.

Surprise motherfucka 😝

Haha!

And what a nice fucken surprise.

Nice setup for a serious shooter like yourself. I always found it a treat to watch our good shooters do their magic on the range. Not sure people appreciate the hours and physical work that goes into becoming so proficient.

Thanks mate, super happy with the Bladetech products and looking forward to send some rounds on Saturday drawing from this duty drop.

Your right, people don't understand what goes into becoming a good shooter; they get their information from TV, movies and video games that are usually so far from the reality of it that it's laughable.

This just reminded me I really need to get a new holster for my P-07. Thanks I guess, slutterbutt.

Hey pussyboi, long time huh? I hope you're still flaccid!

I can recommend Bladetech, I've been really happy with it and it works so well. Of course, there's other brands as well. Let me know how you go.

Glad that shipping all worked smoothly.

I was starting to wonder if a post about it was in the works.

If those damn continents tectonic plates had not drifted so far apart millions of years back in the Dino days we would not have had to wait on the trains and planes to get it there.

Speaking of planes... More sad clown world shit going down in my part of the world. SMFH

My Heart 💔 Breaks for the innocent lost souls

Yeah, the shipping worked out, a little costly but that's not unusual I suppose.

You mean the mid air crash with the Blackhawk? Tragic really, and preventable.

Loved your post. I like one of the other commentors was reaching down to do the draw motion. I carry my Bersa Miami Vice style. Shoulder under the arm holster. I have a belt clip holster but it is too high also.

The preventable part you speak of is the clown world part. The best and brightest are not being put in positions that control life and death decisions. Just like the Russian driver who held me up in the shipping ✓ in line yesterday for 30+ minutes. Could not speak a word of english. But somehow JB Hunt put him behind the wheel of an 80,000 lb vehicle. Probably on a VISA. Meat in the Seat at any cost... 😳 SMFH 😳

It was good too see bozz did the motions to see what I meant, most wouldn't and because he did it made perfect sense.

I was only talking about non-english speakers here...annoys the shit out of me and when we have to rely on them to know and follow processes and procedures? Well, does anyone else see the problem or is it just me.

Lack of communication skills in deadly situations gets someone dead.

Other than that it is just disrespectfully annoying and a waste of everyone's time. Unsafe to operate a heavy vehicle with zero communication skills in my opinion.

Theresa lot wrong, and yet so many delude themselves that it's all good. Dumb fucks.

Definitely a worthy modification. I was admiring the magazine row. What we used to say about that is "Even if you don't hit the target, his friends are in a lot of trouble"! I know you hit your target, so that's a whole lot of trouble hanging on the other side. I love the lightness of that style belt as well as the infinite adjustment velcro "buckle". Nice rig that should serve you well in competition.

One can never have enough bullets...remember Elmer Fudd and that famous line, "no more bullets", it always stuck with me. Lol.

The belt has an inner belt with the Velcro loop which one puts on (holds the pants on too) and the outer duty belt as pictured lined with the Velcro hook on the inside just velcro's on. It's a very secure rig.

Yes, very familiar, wore a similar duty rig (minus a few mag holders) daily for many years, my favorite style.

Works a treat. Things going ok for you guys?

Definitely, Tks for asking. I think I sent you a discord update a while back, if not apologies.
The last test after treatments showed full remission. Woot! Now just 6 month testing to keep eye on it from coming back. Was working contract gig for a few months, just started a new full-time gig a few weeks ago, so things quite hectic trying to learn all the twerks of the new business, but definitely a great new role and excited to be up and running with new company. Certainly starting the New Year off on a much more positive note.

You did and in it said things are on track, I was just checking in.

I knew about the full-time gig so am glad that's going ok so far, keep it rolling mate, you're on the right trajectory it seems.

You are going to laugh, but as I was reading your description, I found myself reaching down to my right side mimicking the motion so I could get a feel of what you were talking about. It makes a lot of sense seeing the photos. I totally get the awkward lean you were talking about. The grip in that first photo makes it look like you shoot this gun quite a bit.

Well done man, it's great that you did that as you get what I mean a little better. I wasn't sure my explanation would translate to others well. It's that sideways lean that's the problem, it all takes time and time is critical.

Yes, this is a field gun not a show pony and it gets used a lot so is a little battered but it keeps on going and going. It's one of the most reliable firearms I've had.

I remember, when I was watching cowboy movies, the first thing someone who had a Colt did was adjust the height of the holster so that the handle of the gun was near his relaxed hand, so that he could pull it out of the holster as soon as possible in a duel.

I'm only interested in what "holds" the gun in this holster so it doesn't fall out while running, I don't see any fuse?
Do you fasten the holster, which is now halfway up your thigh, to your leg somehow, or does it hit your leg when you walk?

The frames addon is the ultimate, "battle ready" variant...

This is an example of the necessary preparation (what you wrote about in the last post), in order to have an advantage.
💪

The Kydex holster is a snug fit for the firearm and has a couple screws that can be tightened or loosened to obtain the correct "grip" on the firearm to prevent it accidentally slipping out. There's a couple thick rubber spacers between the holster inner and outer that will crush inwards when the screws are tightened allowing the movement to grab the gun a little tighter. I don't want it too tight though or the draw is slower.

The holster is spaced slightly off the hip/leg, there's not much in it, but it's supposed to be quite snug. It does not restrict freedom of movement.

Aha, it means that it is universal, it is not only for that model of pistol. although it looks like it was cast just for him :-)

Nope, it's molded and designed specifically for the CZ P-09, each handgun has a different holster.

What separates life from death is the draw, I have always practiced this activity, it took me some time to acquire skill in this but with practice good results are achieved, positioning for shots is essential since this guarantees that our shot whether it is accurate or not according to the shape in which we have our body, if we are balanced to one side our shot will be inaccurate

Yep, you get it and I expected you would if you saw this post. A fast draw and target acquisition and excellent front sight focus is what it takes. Easily said, takes time and effort to learn and improve though.

I might not have experience with firearms, but I can relate to wanting gear that works perfectly for what you need.

Yeah, it's important that the things we use are fit for purpose, otherwise what's the point of having them I guess.

It is very noticeable difference to the eye and sure to be much better and more practical besides not having to bend over, very good buy!!!! Hope you had a good day at work!

Work is over, it's after 9pm here...Just Friday to go now.

It's 11:49 here and I still have two days left until the weekend... today pizza!

Fuck, I could go some pizza.

You are invited! It's homemade!

Looks like a cool rig. Do you always carry your gun? Or do you just use it on the range?

It's a cool thing, yeah, and I'm really happy with the duty drop adaptor. It's a good system and Bladetech have done a really good job designing it. They do some other really cool products as well, some of which will buy.

Nice rig. but u need MORE clips! 💪😎👊

Magazines you mean? Yeah, six isn't enough.

Wow wonderful, wow wonderful, I am a police officer and I am very fond of these weapons, amazing

You've probably got some degree of experience I guess, considering your job.

Looks great

Yeah.
