He is my shadow...and a good dog, LOL! I had to set the melon down because my hands were full. When I got back, he was asleep....

Hahahahahahahahaahahaaahahahaha!!!!!!

Awesome job dog!!! Save the melon!!!

He is the First full size dachshund that I've ever had, but he acts just as rotten as the little guys! I rescue dachshunds and I got him in originally as a rescue, but some worthless piece of slime have beat him; and he was too damaged for me to adopt out. So I kept him. He's still very worried but he's getting better. When I brought him home and open this cage it took him five days to come out of the cage he was so scared. It took me about four months to be able to even touch him, but now he comes to me every morning for ear scratching!

So he's getting better, in another five years he might even jump up on my lap, LOL. But he's getting more dog like everyday oh, has he realizes that I'm not going to beat him like the guy down there in Texas did. I have a theory that when that dog beater gets to heaven God's going to make him a chew toy for the dogs he beat. I think it would be fair!

But you're absolutely correct that watermelon was very safe.

That is an awesome story and a great reason to spend time rehabilitating a living thing that needs your time and effort.

Yeah I've got to keep a very firm handful on my dog but we do love each other. And his training is absolutely coming around.

Glad you're getting that done, they do need direction!

When your trying to train a dog that's been badly abused it limits your options. You can't take a newspaper to him, because every newspaper reminds him the baseball bat. He is slowly coming around because he wants to do what I want done, and that is becoming more successful. He is going to be fine, and if that jerk hadn't beat him I think he would have been a really good dog!

As it is, he's doing the best you can; and he's pretty amusing to have around. He's starting to get where he likes to be petted, I used to run and hide when I put my hands on him! So I'm slowly winning the fight, but he's a smart enough dog you knows he was abused. So I catch all the crap that that guy in Texas actually earned! who knows another 5 years he might even jump up on my lap....

Enjoy your sweet beastie!

Oh I have a feeling he will forget quicker than that.

Dogs don't carry trauma like we do. They can leave it where humans will pack it around with us.

And like all things time heals all wounds.

My biggest advantage is that guy in Texas apparently didn't kick him. That means I'm able to pet him with my feet, he has decided that that's safe. But these are Mighty cautious citizen, so we'll see on the lap time. But he is starting to act more dog-like, but he about freaked out when I patted his ears the first time! But now he comes enjoys the ear petting. I've even been getting close to belly rub lately, so he is feeling safer!

But, we will see on the healing, but I think you're right, we'll just have to wait. Right now he's a pretty good watchdog. That is the spot he's picked out withthis 'pack', LOL!

Be blessed!
