Some famous guy once said "Let there be Light". (At least according to some religious books). I am a fan of being able to light the dark. Is that control? Is that power? I don't know. I do know that I like flashlights. Not just your average double AA or double DD cell from the hardware store. I like BRIGHT flashlights that light up the night.
To that end, I've just added two new ones to my collection. How many does it take to make a "collection"? I don't know, but I'm sure I have enough. Some folks (my wife) would even say I have too many. But all of us in the know, know there is no such thing.
These two models are newer versions of previous models. As you can see, they are made by OLight. The larger one on the left is the "Marauder Mini" (because it's smaller than the original Marauder). The smaller one on the right is the "Baton Turbo" (because it has higher output than the original Baton).
This little Baton Turbo, is likely going to become my primary use light. It is so small, yet really has a bright light for it's size. I love that it fits inside the palm of my hand, and my hands are medium-small size. Like many of their lights, the brightness is adjustable, from a super long lasting dim mode, to a less lasting turbo or super-bright mode. This one is perfect for walking the dog at night, or just general usage. It's quite a powerhouse for it's size, providing 65,025 Candela, 1,000 lumens and 510 meters of throw. Like many of the Olight series, it also has a "lockout" feature to prevent accidental activation in pocket or backpack. At the lowest level "Moonlight" mode, it can run for 50 days continuous. Quite nice for camping / tent light, or emergency power outage light in the city.
The larger Marauder Mini however is quite the powerhouse. One of it's best features is flipping from floodlight mode to spotlight mode at the flick of a switch. This changes the "throw" or distance of the light pattern from 310 meters to a whopping 600 metters spotlight mode. It also has the ability to change colors, white, red, green, or blue. It's also not near as heavy as the previous Full size Marauder, which is a beast. This one "only" weighs 462g. This one is ideal for search and rescue, or wild game recovery, and not too bad to carry around as it's heavier predecessor was.
But wait.... there's more!
Here's a few more of my collection. The larger original Marauder is on the far left, the new Marauder Mini, then the white Warrier X pro (also one of my favorite size/brightness), then the new Baton Turbo. In the front, we have a very handy little keychain light that is held in by magnet and quickly separates for off-keys use, then the Semi-flat Arkfeld with the dragon image on it. The Arkfeld is a unique little light, in that it has the white light, a green laser pointer, but also a fairly strong UV light. The UV light is useful for spotting scorpions Did you know that scorpions lite up under the UV light? or examining hotel rooms and such (ewwww).
Then we have some handy magnetic (like most of their lights) little dome lights, these are great for closets, weapon safes, even vehicle lights, etc. They also can be set for different levels of brightness or colors (green not pictured). They also float and can be used in swimming pool for night swimming.
Last but not least, Of course I have some pew lights.
This one is their "Baldr" model. It attaches/detaches with a quick release mount to Glock or picatinny rails. It combines a bright flashlight, and also a green laser, or light/laser combo. I really like the light/laser combo for fast target acquisition, and the light is bright enough to have a blinding effect if used in a tactical method by keeping off yet easy/quick to turn on by just pushing either side of the switch just in front of the trigger guard. This is one of my pews kept handy for things that go bump in the night, with extended capacity .45 cal mag.
Here it is in it's little nightstand safe/clock, that opens with a just a biometric touch of the finger, or access code. Along with the red "Odin" model Olight standing on it's magnetic base for easy location in the dark. They also recently released a new "Red Dot" sight. I don't have one yet, but eager to check it out, it looks to have some really nice premium features to it.
Some may call it an addiction (yes I have many more), but I call it a collection :) If you're interested in them, they frequently offer "Bundle packages" and special sales at 40-60% discounts. But beware, this can lead to a "collection", or overspending on Xmas gifts for others.
And if you're thinking about an order (probably too late for Xmas delivery). Please use this link to register your account, even just to look (they offer a nice rewards program for repeat purchases or referrals as well). This way we'll both get rewards, and if I see you've ordered with a credit to me, I'll throw a few Hive your direction!
That's it for today. May all your nights be bright!
I used to have a neighbour who collected torches, she had a whole series of them of different sizes. I think she bought a lot of them when returning home late at night.
The other week I was saying to my husband that we should have a good quality torch at home for emergencies. You never know what may happen
These certainly qualify as torches (we don't call them that here, but I love that term!). I found the little keychain light very handy, it is so much brighter than the comparative ones on the market. Some of the larger ones like the Warrior (oh, wait, I have another) actually have a staggered bezel and would serve quite well as a defensive weapon. It's a very powerful light and will also easily temporarily blind an attacker.
Ah! British English Vs America English, I forgot about that.
When I was living in Taiwan, we always had torches 😁 at home, and headlamps in our bedside cabinet in case of earthquakes which happened occasionally.
Yes, very handy during power outages during quakes and such. Here we have the hurricanes and tornadoes causing most. I also keep at least one or more in the car for emergencies at night.
Lol...it's amazing we can even communicate! (They're called torches here too.)
Well I'm going to start calling them that, maybe I can start a trend over here.
Haha, yeah cool. You can get an Onlyfans page too...isn't that the done thing? 🤔🤣
Hah, not.
I like the sound of that neighbour of yours.
That's pretty cool! I will have to check out that brand for sure. I remember when I used to work at Radio Shack we sold a spotlight that had something like 1 million candle power or something like that. It was pretty insane. On a side note, as a drone guy, what do you make of all this stuff that's happening in Jersey and other places lately?
It's amazing how far the technology has come. Even that little Baton Turbo is much brighter than the lunchbox size 12volt battery things we used to lug around.
And the drones? If they are drones, the Karen's need to get off their little train. Likely people practicing for New Year's drone displays instead of fireworks. I personally like fireworks too, but got to say that the drones are safer than burning, exploding paper and ashes flittering to the ground catching things on fire. And people may have gotten some minor cuts from drone blades, but haven't blown off their hand. Don't get me started!
Wow, that is pretty impressive!
I do have to agree with you there. My brother in law used to work for a fireworks company and almost lost a hand moving a dud with an e-fuse. I think drone shows are pretty cool. I don't think I have ever seen one the size of a car though.
Well, one would have to be foolish to think that other countries (or aliens) aren't flying there above us spying like we do their countries as well.
Yes, very true!
Legit lights to be sure...and a legit thing to collect; makes perfect sense to me.
The Baton Turbo, the Warrior X Pro, and the Marauder Mini, certainly would be up your alley I think, and best of their lineup imho. Just be prepared, you'll want three of those Baton Turbo's to keep em handy..
Yeah, I have already had to curb my enthusiasm for rushing out and buying all three so yeah, thanks for your
badgood influence!I have a mate who swears by Olight and I've hunted with them a lot in the past. Good lights indeed.
Yes, I did give fair warning about their addictive quality!
wow, you have collected a lot of flash lights, these are great lights. But now I don't see anyone using these lights anymore because everyone is using smart phone flash lights. The lights you are using can help you focus on distant objects, everyone should have at least one of these. Good collection
Yes, the smartphone light has it's uses as well, although certainly much more limited given the comparatively tiny amount of light they give out. Even that little keychain light is like 20 times stronger. I'll still get around to doing some comparison shots one of these days.
eheh i have never seen someone collecting flashlights, but people collect even sugar packs so...those look very sophisticated too
Many are certainly more tactical based than the average shop light :)
Thank you as always! Appreciate the notice!
