There is probably no need to introduce the most controversial artist of our time. Banksy. My girlfriend and I decided to go to the World of Banksy exhibition, which is currently taking place in St. Michael's Church, located in the very centre of historic Prague, just a few steps away from the Old Town Square.
Asi není potřeba představovat nejkontroverznějšího umělce dnešní doby. Banksyho. Rozhodli jsme se jít s přítelkyní na výstavu World of Banksy, která se momentálně koná v prostorách kostela svatého Michaela, nacházejícího se v samém centru historické Prahy, jenom pár kroků od staroměstského náměstí.
Although I am very close to street art and especially graffiti, I would probably not go to this exhibition. If we hadn't had a babysitter after eight months, if it hadn't been ugly weather and if there hadn't been some interesting cultural event. I found the connection of street art in the interior of the church interesting.
Ačkoliv mám ke streetartu a zejména ke graffiti velmi blízko, na tuto výstavu bych nejspíše nešel. Kdybychom neměli po osmi měsících zajištěné hlídání, nebylo hnusně a nekonala se nějaká zajímavá kulturní akce. Přišlo mi zajímavé spojení streetart v interiéru kostela.
It's a really interesting place, I was there years ago for a friend's Rap album launch and even then there were some really interesting things going on. I mainly wanted to show it to my girlfriend, who I picked up on things around graffiti and painting.
Je to vskutku zajímavé místo, kde jsem byl už před lety na křtu Rapové desky jednoho známého a i tenkrát se tam děli vskutku zajímavé věci. Chtěl jsem to tam hlavně ukázat přítelkyni, kterou jsem na věcech okolo graffiti a malovaček sbalil.
I really like Banksy. I always had and he is main reason, why i was visited London ten years ago. I liked his style and controversy a few years before that though.
Banksyho mám opravdu rád. Vždy jsem měl a hlavně kvůli němu jsem před deseti lety navštívil Londýn. Jeho styl a kontroverze se mi ale líbilo již několik let před tím.
To a reader who lives in a cave and has never heard of him, I would describe him as an enigmatic artist who hits on topical issues with his street paintings. Very indiscriminate and controversial. He is also a man who is very protective of his identity. It's not publicly known who he is and he has works on every continent. The most recent ones, for example, in war-torn Ukraine.
Čtenáři, který žije v jeskyni a nikdy o něm neslyšel bych ho popsal, jako záhadného umělce, který se svými pouličními malbami trefuje do aktuálních témat. Hodně nevybíravě a kontroverzně. Dále to je člověk, který si velmi stráží svojí identitu. Veřejně není známo, kdo to je a svá díla má na všech světadílech. Ty nejnovější například na válkou zmítané Ukrajině.
But now to the reason why I wouldn't go to this exhibition myself. There wasn't a single original, it was all replicas. Mostly though, one of Banksy's biggest themes is anarchy and the consumerist lifestyle. For that reason I expected to be disgusted by the visit. The spaces are beautiful, everything was nicely lit, but considering that the author himself won't make a penny from it and it's amazing how many people are able to feed off his work.
Teď ale k tomu důvodu, proč bych sám na tuto výstavu nešel. Nebyl tam jediný originál, všechno byly repliky. Hlavně ale jedním z největších Banksyho témat je anarchie a konzumní životní styl. Z toho důvodu jsem očekával, že se mi návštěva zhnusí. Prostory jsou krásné, vše bylo hezky nasvícené, ale vzhledem k tomu, že sám autor z toho nebude mít ani cent, tak je až zarážející, kolik lidí se na jeho tvorbě dokáže přiživit.
The icing on the cake was the gift shop, which covered about 20% of the exhibition area. Banksy t-shirts, Banksy mugs, Banksy posters, bags, key rings...
Takovou třešničkou na dortu byl gift shop, který byl asi na 20% plochy expozice. Banksy trička, Banksy hrníčky, Banksy plakáty, tašky, klíčenky...
Almost the only added value of the exhibition were the captions, with the place, date and description of the ideas on which the artist based his work. Unfortunately, some of these descriptions were missing, and some of them differed from the original, which was probably the most disappointing thing for me. In summary, it's a nice tourist attraction. However, those who have been following Banksy's work for a few years will find it disappointing.
Téměř jediná přidaná hodnota výstavy byly popisky, s uvedením místa, datumu a popisu myšlenek, ze kterých autor při tvorbě vycházel. Bohužel, u některých tento popis chyběl a část se lišila od originálu, což mě zklamalo asi nejvíce. Shrnul bych to tak, že to je hezká turistická atrakce. Kdo ale Banksyho tvorbu už pár let sleduje, tak pro toho to bude zklamání.

No. Trochu připomínka a dotaz k osvětlení. Psal jsi, že by měla být každá fotka jiná. Ano, výstava, každý obraz je jiný, ale přesto je to jen jeden "pohled, styl". Jak to tedy je?
