Waiting for the Steam Deck myself! 🤤 Quite sad that the orders have been delayed though haha, RIP christmas!
I ordered one ASAP, but after watching the LTT / Linus Tech Tips video review on it (an early engineer model for Valve), it seemed even better than I first imagined, can't wait to give it a shot sometime next year. 😜
Gaming on Linux has always intrigued me, but has developed slowly, now with Valve investing into Photon improvements (+ Arch-based Steam OS), I think Linux gaming finally has it's chance, which is great for everyone!
Microsoft would like a word with you. 🤣
The problem with this console is that it needs to use the ARM architecture. The x86 architecture is getting hard to scale up on a limited thermal package, such as in a handheld console. If Sony does use ARM on a new handheld that would be revolutionary and would destroy the Switch in terms of performance!
For now I have not seen any console using ARM, only those cheap “Android consoles”, mostly phones have been using ARM. Apple is transitioning from x86 to ARM on their computer so that could kickstart an “ARMs race” (pun intended)
Oh snap, you’ve got me! I just searched it up and the Switch indeeds uses arm already! I thought it used “Nvidia Tegra”, which was Nvidia's attempt to make mobile gaming platform.
I have learned something new!
For me the days of having a mobile system are behind me. I think they did the Switch correctly because you can hook up to a proper TV if you are at home. The last portable system I bought was a 3DS and while I am happy I bought it, the only time I ever use it is on a flight which means I have totally forgotten how to play the games I own and also don't have any idea where I am supposed to go next.
I can't really imagine this PS system selling very well.
