If it was left up to my dog, Nadi, she would never get haircuts. As a non-shedding breed this is something that absolutely must happen after a certain amount of time though else she will be wearing fur mittens on her legs covered in hair that will never fall out. Having a non-shedding dog has a lot of benefits such as not having hair all over your house / apartment, but the downside is that regular haircuts are a necessity.
Nadi was well past the point of necessity when I finally broke down and took her for a haircut.
You can see how the hair has grown over her paws and it was much worse on the back feet where the fur extended several cm beyond her fingertips. I don't think this necessarily causes the dog any discomfort but the overgrown nails do, and this is something I refuse to do on my own ever since that day that I cut through the quick and hurt my little darling a lot as she bled all over the house and had a limp for a day or so. She forgave me. Treats have a tendency to accomplish this every time.
Anyway, when I go to the doggy hair salon I don't exactly give them very specific instruction but rather just give them a picture. When the dog is getting a shave it is one of the quickest haircuts as well so that always makes the dog happy since she hates them. Unfortunately I am not very pleased with the end result and there is nothing that can be done about it now.
The main thing that bothers me is the fact that they made her tail look so ridiculous. It would normally have a little pom pom fluff on the end of it and well, maybe it is just me that likes that, maybe HAVING it is what is ridiculous but I have gotten used to it over the years.
Here you can see the "floof" I am referring to. It has been a part of her look for 5 years now and now that she doesn't have it, it just seems so out of place. Nadi doesn't really care or probably even know what she looks like, so I guess I'll hold off on throwing her in the trash and getting a new one for the time being.
She does have a look of disdain that screams "what have you done to me" when she is tired and staring at me though and I feel your pain you silly-looking little darling. So I guess we'll have to simply deal with this for the next few months while we wait for it to grow back out. In the meantime I have to say "thanks, I hate it!"
Sorry to hear about that...the phase will pass...
Henloooo, little Nadi baby. You are still beautiful no matter what they say. She look so sad though, at the last picture or maybe that's the look of "I will just wait it to grow again my hoooman." Look at her, like she is in a movie with her dramatic look, so cute 🥰
her entire life she looks like she is in the middle of a dramatic movie. She always looks sad even though I doubt that she ever actually is.
Oh my gosh! Poor Nadi! Like, what kind of grooming is that? It's not really suitable for her thus, they should left quite a long fur so that it shouldn't look like that. Bear with it poor Nadi for quite a while. It will grow beautiful soon. !PIZZA
yeah, it will be fine. I am just having some fun with her. I don't really mind what they do at the groomers but I do miss that full tail that we had been working on for years.

Awww ... the hair can always grow back, hopefully the pom pom also!
She's pretty either way :) But maybe next time, you should be more specific 🤣 Does she seem to like short or long hair better?
This post has been manually curated by the VYB curation project
She doesn't care what the hair looks like. I think during hot season - which is most of the year here - she prefers it short because she gets overheated so quickly with a full coat.
That makes sense :) They don't really care what they look like, but some dislike the feel of certain styles...
Ugh, I hate when this happens. They did the same to my brother's Chow Chow named Nala once. She had so much hair and they claimed it was too difficult to get the knots out and just shaved her bald basically beside her neck. She looked like a Lion, but that is definitely not what he asked for. Even now, her hair refuses to grow back properly in once certain area. Luckily her fair is 99% full again, but still, we were all really pissed when it happened. Of course, I cannot find any photos of that horrible situation.
At least your girl still looks cute. Hopefully, her hair grows back quickly and she will move on from the haircut.
It will grow back in a couple of months. I can only blame myself because I have very little patience for shopping, even for a haircut (including my own hair)... If I had just taken the time this would have been avoided.
Chow Chow's are shedding dogs right? I want to say that a friend of mine had one of those and hair was just everywhere in his house
Yea luckily hair grows and grows. It will come back soon.
Nala sheds quite a bit, but definitely not the worst shedding I've seen from a dog.
Not exactly something you would order for your dog as this is not a great look lol. You could have done this with a pair of shears, but at least you have no worries for a good few months which is the upside I suppose.
yeah, the upside of my own haircuts is normally the same thing: Don't have to do it again for a while.
We have someone else do Jovi's nails too. What I have noticed is that they cut far less off than I would think needs to be cut off. I am guessing that is what usually leads to people cutting them too short. The good thing about hair is it usually always grows back! Unless your past middle aged like me!
I'd like to think that based on lots more experience they know better than I do where the quick is. When I look at my dog's nails I think that they are probably about twice as long as they should be. This is how you end up making a bloody mess on the floor and traumatizing your dog as far as the cutters are concerned. It's better left to the professionals methinks.
Yeah, I totally agree. I don't even try. It definitely feels like there is way more than there actually is and then you end up cutting too much. Not worth it at all.
Nadi's hair grows at an exceptional rate so yeah, we'll be back in the game before you know it!
If I can ever open my heart to another dog after Jovi, I am definitely going to look into a non-shedding breed. These weekly tumbleweeds in our house are nuts!
take your time on that one pal.... it makes me sad to even think about that.
I hear ya!
Let's keep Nadi out of the trash bin, you'll get your lioness tail back soon sweetie, hang in there. Look at the bright side Nadi, at least you're not a chihuahua, right?
