I See Dead People

How many people have to catch stupid before we get herd immunity to it? Haven't heard herd immunity mentioned in a while, I wonder if it caught the covid and died?

Speaking of dying, I recently paid a visit to the land of folks who'd done just that. Everybody else around here calls it Cave Hill Cemetery though. Final resting place of Muhammad Ali and Colonel Harland Sanders (of Kentucky Fried Chicken fame), it's an interesting place. I'd gotten a new lens for the new year (a Tamron 19-35mm) and was still a bit fuzzy on it, figured the dead wouldn't mind me using them for experimental testing.

Noticed a lot of replicas of an old Roman execution device. It's a grave aesthetic but I dig it. Kinda makes me want to have an electric chair for a headstone...

cave_hill_3.jpg

Not sure what exactly that's supposed to be but it looks like it might explode. Shoot flaming arrows at least...

cave_hill_7.jpg

It's a Payne being dead, so they said. We were on the unguided tour so I have absolutely no clue who any of these people are.

cave_hill_4.jpg

I do know these people were Dicks though. Apparently there's a lot of them out there...

The geese seemed a bit disturbed by all the rituals with dead bodies, but a free place to crash is a free place to crash. None of us could figure out why ol' Hardin wanted to be buried in a bank vault but c'est la vie.

No photographic tour of a corpse farm is complete without at least one photo of an unmarked grave. DEAD END

Sort:

Richard really put foot his down like I want Dick on my headstone. Just Dick.

He couldn't help but be a dick...

REAL SNEAKY replying to your "self". Can't fool me.

Sneaky indeed!

Great post. I "died" laughing when I read it. Your humor made me remember a friend who used to say : "I do not attend my friends' funerals because they wont be able to attend mine". 😅 I also remember other friend who wondered why some cemetery have walls. They are useless: people who are inside can't go out, and the ones who are outside do not want to go in". 😂Hope you laugh with my jokes too.

Thank you! Lol, I will definitely be stealing those from you :D

I had to edit it for better understanding. Thanks !

Nice slamming of the word spins with the photos, got me laughing! I'm so relieved to see another human who appreciates slogging the cemetery photographing. I thought it was just me. I thought I was weirdo, you know.

The light orbs in several photos are an interesting effect.

Thank ya! The place where I grew up had a graveyard on the property so playing around in one doesn't seem weird to me in the least. Lol, as kids we had a paintball fight in the cemetery, that got the adults rather agitated...

I wish I could take credit for the effect but it's more happy accident than anything. I pretty sure it has something to do with aperture but I was shooting on auto, just happened to notice it as I was moving the camera around.

Ah ha! So you're well accustomed to playing around in a graveyard. Paintball fight, lol, I'm imaging the tombstones.

Very interesting effect accident or not. Hahaha, auto click a click and whatever you get, yeah. Fun stuff.

If chickenpox came in orange and affected tombstones it might look something like that graveyard did afterwards. Yeah, quite accustomed. I really want to go back to Arlington and take photos there, that's one hell of a cemetery.

I used to shoot strictly on manual but now only use it when I'm being fussy about a shot. From what google tells me the effect is due to the aperture, gonna have to go out and test that tomorrow.

Orange chickenpox tombstones, great visual, lol! I'd love to see photos from the one in Arlington, if you get the chance. It must be an old one, is it?

I'm about the same with manual vs. auto, with one addition, shooting at night hold the shutter open.

I think you're right, it's an effect due to the aperture. I'll be interested to see what you shoot next with that lens.

I do know these people were Dicks though

You have just been served a defamation lawsuit by the Dick estate.

Also I think that thing that looks like it might explode is supposed to be a gyroscope?

!PIZZA

I keep Abbie Hoffman's ghost on retainer, I look forward to seeing them in court.

I definitely see the similarly to gyros but I didn't think that they had arrows sticking through them...

Maybe it's a weather vane then.

I keep Abbie Hoffman's ghost on retainer

Great, now I'm gonna have to spend the whole evening reading about this Hoffman character. Thanks.

I love these shots! Great work I love how you captured the light vs the fact it's graves. Have a !BEER

This felt like an undercover @dandays piece. I've never seen each of you in a room together, so I'm going with it.

I see what you mean, I should've been a photographer.

Were you as surprised as I was when he said Colonel Sanders is buried there? I thought those people lived forever.

You can still be anything you wanna be, bud.

He's still alive bro, just like Tupac, Cobain, and Epstein.

You forgot Elvis. Can vouch for the Colonel being alive still, used to live in the same apartment building as him.

How could I have forgotten Elvis?! duh.

If you can hook up a Colonel autograph, I'd die a happy man.

Funny you mention that, I actually have one. It's a menu/pamphlet for his restaurant and motel that he signed and dated back in the 70s. Found it in an antique store in Tipp City, Ohio when I was a kid and gave something like $4 for it.

wow, that's hilarious. Well with inflation, it's probably worth at least $10 now. I'll send you the HIVE ;)
