It has often happened that other users ask me how I build my Effective HP through delegations from others. I wanted to create a post about the methods I use so I can easily refer people to it and avoid repeating myself whenever I get the same query. I think it’s a much more effective way to share something useful for those who want to almost instantly boost their account’s HP through HP delegation.
Before diving into the details, let me give a quick explanation of what Effective HP is.
What is Effective HP?
Effective HP refers to the aggregated Hive Power (HP) that takes into account the following:
- HP that you own (staked Hive)
- HP delegated to you
- HP you delegate to other accounts (if any)
- HP that you're powering down
All of these factors affect the calculation of your Effective HP.
If you're not keen on computing your Effective Hivepower (HP) manually, you may also check your account's effective HP through the Hivestats website. Here's the link to the website:
And here's a screenshot of the stats where you may view your own Effective HP.
Now that we've clarified this, let's move on to discussing how I receive HP delegations from other users. I use two main methods:
- Peer-to-peer HP delegation (direct deals with other users)
- Hive-Engine's HP Leasing service (open-market style HP delegation)
Peer-to-Peer Method
The peer-to-peer method is simpler because there are no intermediaries involved in your agreement with the other user. You simply approach the user, ask if they are willing to delegate their HP to you, and agree on the terms, such as profit or rewards. This part can be tricky as it requires negotiation skills—otherwise, you may have to comply with the delegator’s preferences.
In most of my peer-to-peer HP delegation agreements, I offer around 10% APR, which is quite decent compared to the curation APR of around 8%. I believe this is a fair profit that many delegators appreciate and agree to.
For payment, I use the blockchain’s Recurring Transfer feature. You can access this feature via the Keychain app or through PeakD. While I’m unsure if other frontends also support it, these two tools have been sufficient for my needs to execute Recurring Transfers efficiently.
If you wish to learn how to use the Recurrent Transfer method, feel free to check out this tutorial:
Hive-Engine Leasing Service
Hive-Engine offers a variety of tools for Hive users, one of which is the Leasing service. This tool supports multiple assets, including HP (Hive Power).
Using Hive-Engine, you can lease HP on the open market by creating a lease request. Simply specify the amount of HP you want to lease, set the profit rate, and choose the lease duration.
This method is convenient because you don’t have to manually negotiate with other users to lease their HP. It is, in my opinion, the most efficient method in terms of time and effort, as it takes just a few minutes to set up your request. After that, you can wait for someone to respond to your offer.
However, there are a few considerations when using this method:
You will need to convert Hive to Swap.Hive, as Hive-Engine uses Swap.Hive for transactions. Keep in mind that there is a small fee for converting Hive to Swap.Hive.
Let me walk you through the step-by-step process of placing a request to lease Hive Power (HP).
Step 1: Convert Hive to Swap.Hive
There are several ways to convert Hive to Swap.Hive, including Keychain & BeeSwap. For this post, I’ll show you how to use the tool provided by BeeSwap.
BeeSwap link: https://beeswap.dcity.io/convert
Once you log in to BeeSwap, click on the "Convert" tool. Select the tokens you want to convert—in this case, Hive and Swap.Hive.
Next, specify the amount of Hive you want to swap.
Step 2: Request a Lease
After receiving your Swap.Hive funds, it’s time to place your lease request.
Hive-Engine Leasing service link: https://hive-engine.com/lease
An important note to remember is to filter the assets displayed on the list and select HP. This will help avoid confusion regarding the current APR set by other lessees for their requests.
Go to the Lease panel and click on the Request a Lease button.
A panel will open, allowing you to configure the details of your request:
- Amount of HP you want to lease
- Amount you are willing to pay
- Duration of the lease
- Click "Next" to proceed with the payment for your request will be accepted
And that’s it! You’re all set to lease Hive Power.
Both of these methods—peer-to-peer delegation and Hive-Engine’s leasing service—have their own advantages and drawbacks. Depending on your preferences and priorities, you can choose the one that works best for you.
In conclusion, building Effective HP through delegations is a strategic way to maximize your potential on the Hive blockchain. Whether you choose the simplicity of peer-to-peer agreements or the convenience of Hive-Engine's leasing service, both methods offer unique advantages that cater to different needs. By understanding these options and using them effectively, you can grow your Hive Power and unlock greater opportunities within the ecosystem.

Since you’ve made it this far reading my post, let me share a bonus tip on how to increase your Hive Power by 200 HP for free!
Well, it’s not exactly free—you can earn it through activities you’re probably already doing here on the Hive platform. All you need to do is use the @ecency frontend. Here’s the link:
https://ecency.com/perks
Click on the "Buy Perks" button.
Although it says 'buy,' the payment is made using Ecency points, which you can earn simply by using the Ecency frontend. For me, this feels virtually free since you’re just doing what you already do on the platform.
And then click on the "Boost +" button.
From here, you can select the option that matches the amount of Ecency points you have.
There are two options:
Curation reward is around 8% or 12-13% max if you curate very efficiently. Is it worth it if you offer 10% to the leasor? You drop the curation ball, you're gonna lose out
You’re absolutely correct—I am losing money curating with the HP delegations. However, I still feel it’s worth it because:
I’m able to claim ACTs (Account Creation Tokens) using the RC that comes with the HP delegations.
I’m also supporting newly onboarded users by delegating RC to them to enable their activity and engagement on the platform.
You have more than enough RC yourself to delegate to newbies, they don't need a lot to stay active. There are many ways you can support newbies, especially since you've been around for quite a while and can guide them well.
As to ACT, some think they're going to be worth quite a bit in future when you can sell them. But if everyone is collecting them, especially the whales they will have an abundance, I can't see that happening. It's bit like bottling up fresh air in case we run out in future🙃
This I'm also willing to do, to help with new user retention.
That’s another great point. If I’m able to sell them, that would be phenomenal. For now, I’m more than happy to use my ACTs to onboard new users. (So far, I haven’t onboarded anyone yet, but I’m confident I’ll be able to in the near future).
You can use Ecency Points to receive a 200 HP delegation from Ecency. It's helpful for new users who want to begin using their account right away!
Hi @melinda010100, thank you so much for bringing this up! Yes, I’m also converting my Ecency points this way.
I'll be adding this to my post as an additional option too.
It's a great way to use Points and have a bit more HP!
I totally agree with you. And the best part is that Ecency points can be earned naturally through one's activities in the Ecency frontend 👍
A very good and illustrative post, everything is clearly explained. I’ve thought about this before, and now I’m thinking about it again.
I'm curious what are your thoughts about leasing HP.
That's interesting, I never thought of this which is funny since I'm one of the veterans on here lol. Happy to learn something new everyday!
I'm glad to share some info.
Our chain has been growing in recent years and it gets me excited to learn something new as well.
Once I tried to embark on this universe of delegations, but at the time I wasn't very "prepared".
Maybe I'll gather a good amount of HIVE in the future so I can send it to the Hive-engine and try to do this again.
Your post was very interesting and useful for Hive. Congratulations and thank you.
I'm glad that you find my post useful. Thanks!
Nowadays, the request is getting competitive at around 10% APR, I remember the time when my requests at 7-8% APR were still getting filled.
Anyway, you may try it once you have some liquid Hive.

Thanks for the tips!
Oh I'm not aware of the lease, thanks for this one!
I'm not sure why they didn't promote this service but I'm still glad that Hive-Engine initiated this service after DLease stopped operating.
Results in sight ✅ I tried it via ecency.✌️
I had some points accumulated and decided to follow your suggestion. As a result, today I received a delegation of 207 HP from ecency. It helps me to power my vote, given that my account is only 9 months old (I was just born 😂)
As one hand washes the other, I will delegate half to your account. For your noble attitude in sharing your experience in this great ecosystem. I believe that we can only grow together, each with their own task.

That's so nice of you. Thanks a lot!
Every day that passes I discover more new things. This Hive-Engine HP Leasing Service (open market style HP delegation) is fantastic.
Thank you very much for the educational publication.👏
I'm glad that you find my post useful. And thanks for reblogging my post, appreciate it!
Though I agree that these are some good idea to build your HP effectivly!
The 100% best way to build your HP is you write posts daily and maybe even Snap.
Even you earned more from posting than from Curations in 30 days xD
The best and 100% reliable way is to go to an exchange and buy it with fiat, works 100%!🤣
Thats kinda what he does. Just with crypto ;)
Not exactly, it’s the renting part that makes the difference.
And that's because you're in full control of it, true!
Well, I’m talking about a 100% guaranteed method, but yours is quite effective too!) How do you maintain such a high APR in curation?
I think I'm losing around 2% because I'm giving away more to the delegators than my earnings through curation. So, I'm using my post rewards to pay the losses. 😅
🤝
I agree with you! Nothing beats posting regarding the potential of earning here in Hive. Not to mention that it is almost risk-free since no upfront cost is involved.
Hmm, I'm using a portion of my post earnings to pay my delegators, I figured it's a good use of my HBD earnings :D
I did the same for a while :D
I also mainly used my dividends xD
So also turned out nice. But too much of a hassle to keep track of it, I didn't have any peer-peer delegations even though I tried :c
Yeah, lol. I got used to it. At first, I found it very difficult because I have plenty of leases that are 100HPs. Dropped all the 100HPs and then replaced them with 1000HPs, although it still requires me to manage them, especially the renewal of each lease. Have to track it daily.
Ye exactly x)
It just takes a lot of time and its not worth the time for the 100hp xD
Thanks for this post. I wanted to ask you about renting HP when I saw you post it in Snap. How is it economical though if you're paying 10% APR while the curation APR is around 7%+?
To be honest, I knew from the beginning that I wouldn’t make a profit through curation since I’m paying a much higher APR to the delegators.
However, I still offered a higher APR to encourage people to delegate their HP. If it’s not particularly profitable for them, they’re less likely to delegate. 😅
This is absolutely great to know about! Thanks for sharing it with us the newbies 😆

Excelente información es bueno saberlo
Thank you!
finally my dear respected @curamax you did it, It was a great post , it clear every thing for all of us and it is also very important to share this method cuz not one explain it in platform. I more question is reaming that how to find the peer to peer method user in block chain and how to approach them?
That's a good question and the answer is I made a post about it, here's a link:
https://peakd.com/hive-167922/@curamax/lets-makes-a-deal-10percent-apr-for-hp-delegation
Because of this post, I made a deal that got me around 27,500 HP delegation. The post was made in February 2024 but most delegators still kept their delegations until today.
I hope this helps. Have a great day!
Great, I found this post very useful. I was looking to rent HP
