Days ago I was about to go to the shop in the nearby Altahabana neighbourhood to spend 10 MLC I had on my card. The thing is, that currency here is going to disappear any day now. And before it does, I wanted to make sure I erase its trace from my life as well, and not make the absent-minded mistake of giving that money to the government.
So today was a perfect day to release some tension and turn these meagre funds into something necessary. I almost strangled my cat Yin in the morning because he scratched my hand again for no reason. I just wanted to look at his paw because he sometimes limps, and as a result I have the skin on my finger in strips. 😕
We can't get stuck in anger so I took a bath, got dressed and set out to walk. You know I've been riding my bike lately, but today I wanted to walk properly.
https://strava.app.link/sbA5MgKWyQb
Look at the sky. There was a cloud that I thought was chasing me. Pretty, I said.
Or it would be chasing that bird. But these photos were taken with a mobile phone. I decided to walk lightly because on the way back I knew I would be carrying some bags. Best of all, even though it was sunny, the weather was pleasant. And I made sure to wear comfortable shoes.
Enough, you'll think I'm just here to show you the sky. That would be boring, especially today.
I walk this way and then at the end I find some stairs. These stairs will lead me to a pedestrian walkway under the street on Boyeros Avenue, and from there I enter the bustling area of vendors under the 100th Street bridge.
Yeah, look how fast. I walked away from the hustle and bustle and walked on the grass. This is what I see in front and to my left. The view is not beautiful, but I am enjoying my walk and taking pictures. How can I show you where I live if I don't? Let's go on.
I go towards the area of the buildings, but I turn around to show the motorbike parking and the place where I came from.
And well... here are these horrendous constructions for storing people. Soviet style architecture. I tried to take some pictures of these monstrosities.
😄 I'm not angry... I'm just telling the truth, and what I feel every time I see these buildings. I know they solve one housing problem, but they create others... they are poorly made boxes that leak and because people don't have money or resources you can find your flat sailing in water when you wake up, if the neighbour upstairs left the tap on or never bothered to fix and seal the joints in the shower area of the bathroom more things can happen... my parents have lived through everything.
It is now that I regret not having brought my camera. You can always get good street photos.
Relax... let's go do that little forest area? 😃
I seem to be looking good, look how I'm still smiling. And why not, if the walk goes well, I feel younger and younger every day. My finger hurts a little. 😞
ugly picture... there you are going to open it right away hahaha
To make matters worse, the washing-up detergent caused me harm, my hands peeled off. What a disaster. Breathe, Nani.
I walked a few more blocks and I'm already in front of the shop. I turn around and show you where I came from. Am I boring you? Every day I can't be cool.
And finally the shop, which I'll be honest with you, is in ruins and out of stock.
I am ashamed to show the state it is in. To begin with, you won't find a variety of products here. But who needs variety, right? This would make me feel confused and I wouldn't know what to buy... Anyway... 🤷♀
The mission to spend the money was successfully accomplished. As I don't want to bore you... if you feel like commenting on this post, even if it's just to tell me how annoying I've been, I can give you a photo and a caption.
Because there are photos left here... it would be a shame not to share them. However, I will tell you what I bought.
Get ready!
Sugar, tuna, fish broths, ground meat (not known), wheat flour and crackers.
Tomatoes, spaghetti and sweet crackers were an extra expense in CUP.
What do you buy in your country with 10 dollars or 10 Euros? I look forward to hearing from you in the comments section.
As I arrived a bit hungry from the hike I prepared this snack. Some tomato with garlic, honey and biscuits.
Yummy, I like this a lot... see you, Wednesday walkers. I think I'm on time with UTC time.
;)

For these wounds, remove the skin and apply hydrogen peroxide. Beware of infection if it is deep.
He doesn't want you to touch his paw haha.
The cloud... I see a big bird on its nest feeding its young.
You bought a lot of stuff, I like the biscuits! What a nice snack.... with 10 euros, I buy for example 12 litres of milk or 10 loaves of bread... I hardly eat bread haha
How? because it's in my right hand and I can't cut it with the scissors with my left hand... I don't know. 😓 Yo me lavé con mucho jabón y me limpié con yodo.
ayyyyyy mamasitaaa qué doloooooorrrrrrr
🤣
I scolded Yin, but I didn't strangle him even though I really felt like doing it hahaha... no, I'm kidding. I think he didn't bite me hard but when I pulled my hand away he ripped me.
Cutting the skin is so that it doesn't get caught on the clothes, it's going to hurt worse!
I know it hurts, it's happened to me many times!
Poor man, he lost the merchandise....
For 10 dollars I buy 30 kilograms of potatoes or 110 eggs or 11 kg of soup chicken. 10 dollars is enough for me for one trip to the store to buy groceries for my family.
Oh, that's quite a lot I think. Thank you for answering my question. And where do you live?
For you I have this picture I took through a fence. In a house they were selling this bike and they put a sign with the price on it. It's a Chinese bicycle that was once very fashionable around here, in the nineties, during the special period... a period that I have the feeling we have never left.
I live in Belarus. There are salaries of 300-500 dollars in the provinces and 500-700 in big cities. Programmers receive $1000-3000.
🤔
I will move there 🤣
I love little wispy cloud formations like that and watchign them as they drift and change Thanks for joining the Wednesday walk
Have a great day
Thank you @tattoodjay, of course for a master landscape photographer like you those clouds catch the eye.
For you I have this photo of a section of the sales area under the bridge at 100th street and Boyeros Avenue.
Watch that wound so it doesn't get infected. Far from being bored I have taken a good virtual walk, which I appreciate because today I have not left my house. It’s so windy.
From the package I see that your 10 dollars are enough to buy more or less the same as here, you may even have better luck in that aspect. A 250 gram loaf of bread costs almost a euro. 🙄 But of course, to be fair we would have to know what salary is charged more or less. Here a normal worker would be at €1200 a month, already discounted taxes and social security.
I can imagine. I say that the prices here are those in Europe. There is a wide variety of everything there. In that shop there was only that wheat flour, for example. The fridges were empty with only one pot of ice cream that cost 8 MLC. And in the meat section, only that type of ground meat and a packet of overpriced chicken breasts that I couldn't afford to buy.
Here a normal worker earns 4500 CUP a month, that's what I was earning, that's why I resigned a few months ago.
Paloma, I have this photo for you... I don't have many left, of the entrance to the Escuela de Deporte de Alto Rendimiento Cerro Pelado, in Altahabana where I usually go to play frontenis.
I knew that they pay a pittance there but I didn't imagine that it bordered on slavery. What anger and what shame that there are no chances of a dignified life. 🤬
Thank you for remembering my lost hobby of the frontenis. I have a photo pending to take to give you in return, when the recovery from the flu allows me to return to the park of my walks. 😘
@ewkaw and @qurator 😃 thank you!
I think it will give me the same thing with that amount of money here. Maybe a little less aswell, The money goes lower, but the good prices are rising. A common problem, right?
Anyway what is MLC? shouldn't it be a Peso in your country?

Here we have three currencies in circulation right now. CUP is the Cuban peso. You can also pay with it by transferring money between magnetic cards, but generally people ask for cash. And the MLC is the USD that the government wanted to sell at a price that it is not possible to sustain, because they do not have dollars to sell according to the demand there is. So there is a black market in the sale of dollars, which also circulates in cash. And that calculator I put there is the informal exchange rate.
And MLC can only be held on magnetic cards. It is not a banknote-denominated currency, but a digital one.
In this link you can calculate.
So, for you I have this picture which is what it looked like on my return home under the bridge where the vendors are.
That is pretty interesting, this is also the first time I think I know the government uses more than one currency for the people. It could be a little bit confusing no?
I think it is better to have cash instead in that case, or any precious metals.
The place looks packed with people.
It is confusing for foreigners, because we Cubans have been like this for many years. Now apparently they are going to remove the MLC and only leave the USD and the Cuban Peso. We don't know yet how it's going to be. But there are already shops where you can pay directly with USD. And the banks are enabling cards for deposits in USD. Cuba is crazy in many ways. We have such a surreal reality in so many aspects that I can't even tell you about it.
I don't really like walking among people. That's why I moved away to the grassy area at the beginning. For taking photos, yes, it is an interesting place. 😉
You finally decided to go outside and get some fresh air. At least you bought a few things until reinforcement arrives. I hope it's soon. A kiss.🥰❤️❤️❤️
Mamani, you are always sending me reinforcements, thank you, thank you, you are an angel.
For you I have this photo I took at the exit of the pedestrian crossing that goes under Boyeros Avenue. It seems that someone in Havana is dedicating himself to leaving this message everywhere: Necesitas ser Feliz - ‘You need to be happy’.
https://peakd.com/hive-194913/@nanixxx/you-need-to-be-happy - In this post I published a photo in which he wrote it next to the giraldilla.
We need to be happy, it's something Cubans long for. 🥰❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I will answer the question in my own way: with 20 dollars I can buy something very important in a city like Madrid, the monthly transportation card. With 6 dollars you can enter the Prado Museum (although it is free after 18:00), and a can of tuna (bonito del norte) can cost about 9 dollars.
I hope you recover soon from that injury. Best regards, @nanixxx.
😃 Hey! Gracias.
I may sound weird but I used to be obsessed with Soviet architecture and I still like it a lot, as a concept. Of course I have never lived in a building like that and from what you are telling, a month there would have been enough to change my mind :)
😂
Imagine that my parents have seen water coming out of the electrical outlets. The ceiling in the laundry room and in some parts of the bedroom have dampness that will not go away, painting there is useless. And they have had serious problems with the neighbour upstairs.
I have this photo for you. This dog was running around and barking when it saw people passing by, but with me it just stood still.
Thanks, nice dog!
🤗
Thanks to you for stopping by and for always being present.
