That night I had a surprise in store for you. After so long, I had finally mustered the courage to visit you at work.
My heart was pounding as I approached your office, anxious to see you once again.
But it was I who was surprised to find you holding another man's hand, smiling at him in such a full and luminous way that I had not witnessed for years.
A pang of pain shot through my chest as I realized that you had moved on with his life.
I returned to our home with my soul in tatters and sat down to wait for you on the old rickety sofa that held so many memories.
When you walked through the door, our eyes met and I understood everything immediately. You collapsed to your knees, begging in tears that I should not leave, that you still loved me.
I nodded slowly, caressing your face one last time. We both knew deep down that it was for the best.
-I love you, but you must be happy,” I whispered in a broken voice.
I stood up and moved closer to place one last, eternal kiss on your lips. After all, I had died in that tragic accident two years ago.
This was the goodbye we had so long delayed. With a last glance I walked away into the light that awaited me, taking with me your memories engraved in my heart for eternity.
