I was hunting something that wiped out an entire village on the Eastern valley. Clinesville was a small farming community with a single Cleric keeping watch for the invading creatures of the night. The local clergy would typically send a raven to the Citadel if they detected infernal activity so a combat unit could of Paladins could be dispatched. The clerical outpost went silent nearly a month ago, so the Order dispatched me to investigate.
It was a bright moon, a Wolf Moon as the farm-folk would call it, so the landscape was lit like daylight and I could navigate without lantern or torch. The fields of wheat and corn looked normal but that meant nothing at all, perhaps they forgot to dispatch the monthly raven carrying the progress report but considering how uptight the Clerics were that was unlikely. My suspicions of foul play were confirmed when I saw the first revenant exit the cornfield lumbering in my direction.
The living corpse was once a young woman around my own age, and judging by the condition of the body, she was only dead for a few days prior to my arrival. It turned to look at me with a hateful stare and opened its mouth in a ragged roar, showing off broken bloody teeth. More creatures stirred in the field after hearing the alarm call, bodies in different states of decay staggered towards me confident in their numbers. One of the fresher revenants, a giant of a man, twitched like a puppet on taut strings and spoke in a croaking voice.
"A spring chicken, huh? Is this little girl all the Order has for me?" the creature taunted.
My suspicions were confirmed, we were dealing with a necromancer, someone that would typically hide and send the dead to do their bidding. Only one who had sold their soul to an elder demon could control the dead like this. I wasn't listening as the creature prattled on promising me torture and other lecherous things before putting me to death. Instead, I drew a dagger and nicked my scarred forearm, dribbling my blood in the dirt road to summon my own hell-spawned monsters to join the battle on my behalf.
I am a Sister of Scorn and enslaved demons are my weapons.
