It was dawn and Jack had to get out of bed to do his early morning chores for his mother which were to water her flower garden, wash the dishes, take out the trash, prepare coffee for the family, and also wake up his younger sister Ava. Waking up his younger sister has always been his reward for the chores he does and he always looks forward to it.
Jack took out the hoes and attached them to the water outlet to water flower plants when he hit his leg against something hard as he tripped and he fell. Trying to get up on his feet, he discovered that his t-shirt was stained with blood. Out of shock quickly got up on his feet only to discover that he fell on his dad's lifeless body. Immediately he went to check if he was still alive. Realizing he was dead, he yelled for his Mother.
Jack's mother was in the kitchen preparing breakfast when she heard the distress call of her son. Quickly dropping the knife she was holding, she ran outside to her flower garden and saw Jack beside her husband's body crying bitterly. Immediately she went over to console her son while she look around to see if any strange person was close by.
"Hey Jack! Listen, we have to leave right now! Do you understand me?"
"No mum, how can we leave dad? Who did this to him?" Jack said sobbing as he realized that his mother was digging up some dirt. Looking confused, he sniffed and asked, "What are you looking for?"
"Shhhh Jack, I need to get to a box your dad buried down here years ago"
"Why?!"
His mother looked at him intensely and said, "That box down there, is the reason why your dad has been killed and the only evidence of who did this. So are you going to help me or not?!"
Quickly Jack joined his mother and in a couple of minutes they dug up the box. His mother handed the box to him and told him to get his sister and to come meet her at the garage. A few minutes later, Jack showed up with his sister.
"Get in and be quick about it!" Jack's mother yelled as she kicked starts the car engine.
As she was about to drive out of their garage, they were attacked by three heavily armed men, but that didn't stop Jack's mother from zooming out of their garage at full speed. Tires screeching, they left and they were on the road.
"Hey Jack, I need you to promise me something"
"What is that mum" Jack responded
"Never leave your sister no matter the situation may be"
"Alright mum"
Stopping the car abruptly, Jack's mother s said, "Quickly, follow through that pathway in the forest straight ahead and do not take any corner! Go straight, you will see a treehouse climb into the tree and hide the ladder. You see all you need in there and I promise to join you both soon"
"Mum are you sure!"
"Yes I promise, now go!"
Jack quickly carried his sister out of the car and began to run in the direction his mother showed him. Running towards the pathway with his sister there was a blast and that was the last they both saw of their mother.
Twenty years later…
Jack was squeezing his stress ball while he looked at the dead bodies of his parents' killers. Touching his detective police badge he whispered to himself, "after twenty years, justice for my parent's death was served cold". He smiled and continued squeezing his stress ball in a specific rhythm.

With all due respect, i just feel that the plot of the writeup wasn't well addressed.
If it was your plot, how would you address it?
At least giving readers a little detail on how the villains met their waterloo wouldn't be bad.
Don't get me wrong, the story is great but looks sketchy.
Good think his parents had a plan for Jack and his sister when this happened. It's evident they knew the day would come where their plans would have to be put into action. Nicely done mystery, especially the fast forward.
Thanks for sharing.
