The Heartfelt Acknowledgement - ZAPFIC50 MONDAY (2/10/25) | Prompt: receipt (recibo)

This week's prompt "receipt" conjured up a variety of meanings for me. The written document evidencing acceptance of or return of goods and services. The receipt of heartfelt items, including condolences in difficult times and congratulations in happier ones. A glance. A touch. So many meanings this word can be applied to.

For my flash fiction story, I wanted the word to apply in two different ways in one setting. I feel that I accomplished that for this ZAPFIC50 Monday challenge prompt. This challenge was created by @felt-buzz.

My story is below:

Valerie rushed from the grocers back to her vehicle. Two children crying hysterically; one in the basket, one walking alongside. Once home, she discovered red markings on the receipt's backside.

A heart and phone number.

She wiped away a tear, remembering that her hand shook when he returned her change.

El tema de esta semana, «recibo», me ha evocado varios significados. Documento escrito que acredita la aceptación o devolución de bienes y servicios. La recepción de artículos sinceros, incluidas las condolencias en tiempos difíciles y las felicitaciones en tiempos más felices. Una mirada. Una caricia. A continuación mi historia.

El reconocimiento sincero

Valerie salió corriendo de la tienda de ultramarinos y regresó a su vehículo. Dos niños lloraban histéricos, uno en la cesta y otro caminando a su lado. Una vez en casa, descubrió marcas rojas en el reverso del recibo.

Un corazón y un número de teléfono.

Se enjugó una lágrima, recordando que le temblaba la mano cuando le devolvió el cambio.

We have been together for 40 years, and married for 38.
