La iniciación de la gran mayoría de nosotros en el mundo de las redes sociales comenzó con la explosión de la Web 2.0 en el espacio virtual. Esa práctica nos hizo creer que la información que estaba en internet nos pertenecía a todos y podíamos usarla libremente. Sentimos que al fin se había “democratizado” la utilización de todo el ingenio humano acumulado durante siglos. Ahora todo quedaba solo al alcance de unos cuantos clics. Era como ir caminando por un valle y recoger las flores silvestres que allí crecían sin tener que dar cuenta a nadie del hecho.
Es común ver como los usuarios de las redes sociales tradicionales hacen uso de cualquier material, mostrándolo como propio o sin dar referencia de quienes son sus verdaderos creadores. Lo más preocupante del caso es que lo aceptamos como algo normal y no vemos violación alguna de los derechos de propiedad que tienen los creadores sobre su obra. Yo pensaba igual hasta hace poco.
No hace mucho, cuando descubrí la existencia de las redes Web3 y comencé a crear contenido dentro de sus fronteras, mi relación con el plagio cambió diametralmente. Al principio, hacía lo mismo que es usual dentro de su antecesora: reproducir hasta el cansancio la información que nos encontramos en la red de redes, sin preocuparnos por que los autores de la misma reciban, al menos, la mención de su propiedad. Para mi suerte, comencé publicando en una plataforma donde encontré usuarios que me hicieron entender la dimensión del concepto plagio y sus implicaciones. A partir de ese momento se inició el cambio.
Cuando hace algo más de un año llegué a Hive, ya tenía claro la importancia que reviste la originalidad del contenido que compartimos como autores. Aquí ha continuado mi aprendizaje, pues el entorno es muy favorable. Toda nueva creación parte de ideas anteriores. Dar el merecido crédito a quienes nos inspiran, sin dudas, es uno de los aspectos que he afianzado dentro de la colmena.
Los más “viejos” en esta plataforma llevan tatuado “no plagies” en su piel de creadores, pero para los que apenas se inician, esta publicación, basada en mi experiencia personal con el plagio, pude serle de utilidad. Ese es mi mayor deseo. Cuando hacemos conciencia de que estamos cometiendo un robo de la propiedad intelectual ajena, y dejamos de hacerlo, sentimos que nos despojamos de una carga pesada.

We think that plagiarism should only concern those who are professionally dedicated to writing or any other expression of art.
The beginning of the vast majority of us in the world of social networks began with the explosion of Web 2.0 in the virtual space. That practice made us believe that all the information that was on the internet belonged to all of us and was free to use. We felt that the use of all the human ingenuity accumulated over the centuries had finally been “democratized”. Now everything was just a few clicks away. It was like walking through a valley and picking the wild flowers that grew there without having to tell anyone about it.
It is common to see how users of traditional social networks make use of any material, showing it as their own or without giving reference to who the real creators are. The most worrying thing is that we accept it as something normal and we do not see any violation of the property rights that creators have over their work. I thought the same way until recently.
A few years ago, when I discovered the existence of Web3 networks and started to create content within their borders, my relationship with plagiarism changed diametrically. At the beginning, I did the same as usual within its predecessor: reproduce to exhaustion the information we find in the network of networks, without worrying about the authors of the same receive, at least, the mention of their property.
Fortunately for me, I started publishing on a platform where I found users who made me understand the dimension of the concept of plagiarism and its implications. From that moment on, the change began.
When I arrived at Hive a little over a year ago, I was already clear about the importance of the originality of the content we share as authors. My learning has continued here, because the environment is very favorable. Every new creation starts from previous ideas. Giving the deserved credit to those who inspire us, without a doubt, is one of the aspects that I have strengthened within the hive.
The “older” ones on this platform have “don't plagiarize” tattooed on their creative skin, but for those who are just starting out, this publication about my personal experience with plagiarism may be useful. That is my greatest wish. When we become aware that we are committing theft of someone else's intellectual property, and we stop doing it, we feel that we shed a heavy burden.
