Coated In Sesame Seeds

I’ve eaten bread sticks but don’t ever remember eating sesame sticks. They sound much more appetizing than plain old white bread buns that are served with meals in restaurants.

I’m not familiar with seeing sesame sticks being served at restaurants here on the Island. Maybe a high-end one would have them but I haven’t been hobnobbing there. Besides the seeds would lodge between my teeth.

Sesame seeds have good nutritional values but store bought sticks may have a high content of salt. Salt makes food taste good but like sugar, a little goes a long way and too much can cause health problems.

Sesame oil is often used in Chinese food and I have some in the cupboard. I think the best-to-date has long expired. I love Chinese food but when I made it I always forget about the small bottle of sesame oil I bought because a friend said it is an important ingredient in Chinese food.

I seem to have a lot of reasons not to buy or eat sesame sticks but I would like one now to dip into my hot chocolate drink.

I do like the flavor of sesame! Even if the seeds do get stuck between my teeth!

Hi Melinda 💕 I can’t remember the exact flavour of the seeds but would have eaten them on hamburger buns. Seeds stuck in the teeth are a nuisance. 😂

I often add them to simple stir fries. And there is a delightful sesame seed candy that I buy when I see it in Asian markets that is sweetened with honey and sugar and is wonderfully crunchy!

The candy sounds delicious. There probably is an Asian market in Charlottetown that I could check out.

I love the flavor of sesame seeds, but I wouldn't want to eat them alone, without being on something like bread crust or a roll. TBH, I've never seen sesame sticks either. I, like you, have a bottle of sesame oil that's way over the expired date. :)

Haha @free-reign. I’m glad someone else has a bottle of sesame oil past due in the cupboard.

I'd bet there are a LOT of us @redheadpei! LOL

Lohhhhhh i love the sesame sticks when we eat soup and the kids love them and eat their soup without me telling them to win-win hahahah

Hi @brittandjosie. I’m going to have to see if I can find some sesame sticks. They sound great if the kids like them.

I love it, @redheadpei. All the news that fit to print about sesame! Sesame is one of those words for me that can lose meaning if I say it over and over. I’m not sure why. I also have sesame oil in my cupboard but I actually run out of it once or twice a year, because I do love to cook with it. If you have some leftover rice it’s really easy to make fried rice with some sesame oil, garlic and ginger, some vegetables (I’ve used peas, carrots, green onions and cabbage in any combination), plus some soy sauce and a scrambled egg.

Thanks @jayna! You have got be hankering for some Chinese food. I’m going to have to buy a new bottle of the sesame oil and try your recipe. 💕

I lov sesame seeds. Delicious and healthy

Yes, they are beneficial for health to add fibre, can also help lower blood pressure, etc.

It's been a while I didn't get the chance to have such snacks. It's a very popular snack in Bangladesh. Great to hear your experience!

You will have to try something with sesame, @rem-steem. The sesame plant probably grows in your area.

Yeah, we use sesame in our curries and desserts too. I love the taste and texture.
Thanks 😊

Thanks Bruni @wonderwop! I will check them out at the grocers the next time I go.

Sesame sticks are sold in our local stores, a little expensive but would imagine should not be difficult to bake your own, they are tasty, keep a toothpick close to hand it helps....

!tip

Haha Joan, the toothpick handy is a good idea. I’m going to try and find some sesame sticks here.
Thanks so much for the tip! 💕

🎁 Hi @redheadpei! You have received 0.1 STEEM tip from @joanstewart!

Hmm, I'm not sure that dipping the revolting things in hot chocolate would improve the taste at all.

Sesame oil is somehow a must in every Chinese home; even if we don't use it. But the smell of cooking with sesame oil makes the dish more fragrant.

I’ll have to buy a new bottle of the oil and start using it. 😊

I have some sesame oil in my cabinet as well but never thought to look for an expiration date, which I'm sure is past.

From the positive comments on here, I think we should all get a new bottle and start using it more often.

In my case, I have eaten sesame in many ways and in almost anything. In my country it is called ajonjolí; We consume it in two different ways too: In a blender, you put sesame, water, and any sweetener. It has a refreshing and nutritious drink called Horchata and acquires a spectacular flavor if you add milk.

Thanks for stopping by. The drink sounds refreshing. If the plant grows in your region you probably can buy it for less than here.

hehehe, sesame seed delima...in the teeth or the tummy :) Great free write @redheaddpei!

Thanks @birdsinparadise. Haha it is a dilemma but better in the tummy.

No idea about sesame seed Lady Jo, but I presume that they are those little brown seeds that they stick onto the buns.
Blessings!

Yes Sir Stephen, they do put them on top of hamburger buns sometimes.

Ah! Then I know them Lady Jo, but in all honesty I don't know if I like them very much. In my country construction days I had a job in a small town with only one hotel and the chef there made fresh buns for breakfast every morning. The buns were served with steam coming out of them and a portion of what he called devilled kidneys. I have never tasted anything likewise since.
Blessings

Popcorn is possibly the worst food in the world for lodging between teeth. Seriously, movie theatres ought to provide dental floss with their buckets of popcorn.

Or as @joanstewart replied, ‘keep a toothpick handy’. 😊

Greetings, @redheadpei. What a nice chat between friends you have here. I love it too the toasted sesame seeds and the sweetened sticks are a delight.

Hi @zeleiracordero! Thanks for stopping by and joining the conversation on sesame. 😊

Howdy redheadpei! I like sesame sticks but don't have them often, it's been a couple of years but you did a great freewrite on them!

Mornin’ Cowboy! I’m happy you liked the freewrite. Sesame sticks seem to be an elusive food around here. I’m going to look for some to try them.

I think you'll like them but they are so stiff and crunchy that I'm not sure how people use them. But some of them are flavored so maybe they use them as a snack with their beer!

Thanks @arcange! You made my day. 💕

Glad to be helpful. Thank you @redheadpei

Sesame sticks are like nosh food, just little cracker type things, can't remember the name of any of the more popular types of these foods. Addictive like the others too.
Now you know.

I like Chinese food, and understand sesame oil is an important ingredient. Although I have eaten sesame sticks, I don't consider them a part of my diet and don't buy them.

I really haven’t seen the sesame sticks on the grocer shelves here but I guess I haven’t been looking for them. 😂
