I was returning from school last week when this car pulled up a little before me. Where I live isn't so far from where I school, hence trekk-able. It didn't matter much that he stopped. To rephrase it was none of my business. I only wanted to get home and what to eat was all that occupied my head.
"Hello there pretty." He beckoned with teeth that were less than yellow, closer to brown.
"Hi." I turned to glare at the one that dared to disturb my thoughts.
"Where you going? Imma drop you off." He placed his forearm on the rim of his already whined-down window.
"I'm almost home, don't bother." That was what my mouth said but my head had screamed more than the lecturer in class shouted at Tyler today. I don't even wish to go into that.
He smiled, letting his head fall a little, it was something they thought made them look mature or cool before girls. He came out of the car and closed his door. "Now girl" he said and this time without smiling, he continued. "Don't play hard to get. We know what y'all want."
It sounded like a threat. Like that one time in my life, I don't want to think about it.
Goosebumps had begun making their appearances on my skin. I shivered. It was coming back again and I couldn't help but feel it. It was not a familiar feeling, I never wanted it to be. It had only happened once, and in 10th grade but the fear was indelible, I could never forget it. Ever since, I've tried not to be outside my house by 6 pm and if I ever was, never to walk alone. My legs were wobbly now and I knew I wouldn't stand much but he was persistent. I hate to look weak but in cases like this, I never could stand it. I cowered. I hated this feeling, never wanted it to be a familiar feeling, but now it was, unconsciously.
Even after therapy and self-defence training? No, I was still back at square 1, I never left there.
"Are you okay, Sarah?" A much gentle voice called. I looked up. It was Ayo.
"No, please help me." I gave a faint smile.
He was with friends. They turned to the brown teeth guy and asked him to leave.
I don't remember much, I passed out.
