Jonathan whistled as he stood behind an ironing table, enthusiastically ironing his clothes. He had a presentation to make later that day. A presentation that might just get him a promotion. The day before his boss addressed them all, he heard the upper management would be there. It was also rumoured that the CEO would be there too. A lady, single, yet to be married, would make her first appearance in the company and would attend the presentation as it had to do with taking the company to "the next level".
He had carefully picked a sky blue T-shirt, with navy blue trousers, black shoes and a black tie to match.
"I might just get myself a promotion, and might, just might get myself a lady to grace my home tonight". He danced as he put the finishing touches on his trousers.
He had finished bathing and stood before the mirror admiring "greatness" or "beauty" as he loved to describe himself.
He was now at work, though 5 minutes late. He sat at the end of the room while the executives sat in front. It was his time to present and the CEO was on sit. He had only seen her back. She never turned to look at any of them. He stood, tucked his shirt in and straightened his trousers then proceeded to the front to present before the chair of listeners.
He had just set up his computer when he turned and saw a very familiar face, one that brought memories. It was a lady, the supposed CEO, the one he painted as a whore, a gold digger, his ex-girlfriend. The same lady he made a public disgrace, the one he raped and impregnated, later to deny knowing her. She sat before him, and he froze. There and then he lost confidence, in himself, in his physique, in his carefully picked and ironed clothes, in his promotion and presentation. He lost confidence in anything and everything because he knew he was never going to get that promotion and his life in that company had come to an end.
