You want to know something awful? I kind of wish our elderly dog would die peacefully in his sleep any day now. Preferably before we go away for a week later this month and leave him in the care of my mom. Not that my mom can't take good care of him...just...he's not doing great. I don't want him to die when we're gone. Taking care of our pets would be easier for her if he weren't in the mix. I do feel bad for feeling like that. I don't wish him an early death. It's just, he's not the dog he was. So many of the things that were part of his personality for so long are just gone. Some of those things being gone has made life a little easier, like he no longer tries to bite me if I'm examining some part of his body that he's sensitive about (like his paws). He no longer barks at new folks that come to visit. I have no worries at all anymore that he'll try to bite our kiddo. He's lost any aggression he ever had, so that does make life a little easier.
