It's at the back of the shelf mom said and I searched but there was nothing. There are no back of the shelves where we live. Those few shelves we have are small and if there's anything on it at all it's a cup, plate, spoon and fork for each one of us.
Where I yelled.
At the back dear.
The shelf is empty, there's nothing.
How could there be anything the table was set and dinner was ready. Boiled potatoes with a bit of salt and tea made of herbs out of the garden. Bombs of vitamins mom called the potatoes and what we couldn't eat the sun could provide us with while we walked outside foraging for everything edible Mother Nature provided us with.
The world had changed, cash was no longer a place and like we both knew living in the forest was a great way to forsee us with what we needed. At least she knew what to do and how to heal and today it was my turn to learn it as well.
The shelf in the closet in the basement she said and together we went downstairs and there it was. Her great-grandmother's book is covered in the web. Ancient and wonderful, far from scary.
Don't touch the web, the spider won't like it, I begged.
She smiled and as she waved her hand in the air the book was clean and the web was gone and as if by magic it opened itself and showed the recipe we had talked about earlier, she told me to take the long-forgotten treasure from the shelf.
