At first glance I thought of it as a gaming screenshot, then I saw it.
Some of the games are so realistic now, it could very well be used to inspire a level or mission. It never saw a real major attack, but perhaps a video game can fix this.
Every time I see photos coming from this area of the world, I often wonder if the trees are real or fake. They look perfect, every time.
I think you are talking about the two on the top with the flag pole in particular? I took these photos in late February near the end of winter, so the fir trees were the only green things around.
I'm fairly sure those were transplanted up there. They were probably carefully selected for desired shape and look and expensive. The city park trees here have 2 levels of maintenance, one is just city workers following simple instructions and the other is arborists and botanists. I would imagine those trees are mostly still cared for by the arborists and botanists since they are centerpiece trees. They are definitely tagged.
I actually took a picture of a tree ID tag recently. As you can see this is tree number 1765 in the park. It had its last check-up from the pine tree doctor in February. It received 50ml of tree medicine and this was its 4th dosage. It also has an instruction from the tree hospital officials that it is not to be pruned.
Yeah what's green stands out and I was reminded of everything else I've seen. Those memories added the leaves to the rest of the trees... and I was blown away again... LOL!
It's cool they all get to see the doctor. Where I live the trees are boring and natural but I still like them.
I thoroughly enjoyed this post in its entity. I just got thing for trees, man.
Thanks for the compliments. It took me a while to get this post together. I have a few other ones in the works that are going to take a while for me to get out just because of the complexity.
I think a tree doctor just trying to make the tree look its best is better than lumberjacks posing as environmentalists. I watched a new Michael Moore film and they were talking about using trees to make sustainable carbon-neutral green energy. Adding in shredded tires to get the incineration efficiency yields just right was my favourite 'green touch'. There was another part when some dude excitedly said there was no downside to shredding massive amounts of trees to make electricity.
Natural forests are very important, but even in Canada most of them are selectively harvested (or strip-cut when they can get away with it).
Now, most of the trees here have leaves again.
I'm happy to find out this gem is on the UNESCO list, if it wasn't I would definitely ask why?!
I'm a fortress explorer lover, and I almost visited all of them from my country which are really not a few, but this one is so different than what I've seen before! I love it!
Yes, I mentioned in a previous post along another stretch of the wall that it was UNESCO. An obvious choice in my opinion since there are very few well preserved or restored fortresses from this era (late 1700s) in East Asia. There are only a few other fortresses in Korea (Jinju is my 2nd favourite), but lots of walls along mountain top with namhansanseong, also close to Seoul being the best (and UNESCO, too).
Given the height and proximity to the city, I imagine this is a popular family walk? I love how you can get a great view from all sides and when you turn inwards, you have a piece of history right in front of you.
ps I notice you posted from the HYBH community. Just so you know, it doesn't automatically pin posts to the Pinmapple unless you post from the HYBH app
The walls are usually crowded with people walking along them. That's why I tend to visit during winter or bad weather when it's less busy. I just got really lucky with the visibility that day, probably because it was a Sunday and right in the middle of COVID-19 so all the tourist programs were closed.
I wanted to try HYBH community and I like it. I'll give the app a close look soon, but I don't really like posting from my phone unless I have no choice (travelling without netbook). I pinned this location in my first blog about the larger fortifications and impressive buildings at the Northern End that I featured last fall. Suwon is actually worth visiting for tourists coming to Korea if they don't have time to get to somewhere far from Seoul because it's only a 40-minute train or bus ride and is an easy day trip.
It was a nice walk with you. That turret hole view is great man. Behind everything there was modern city. That was beautiful
Thanks. I do like taking pictures of views through holes. It's a natural frame.
I've been visiting the fortress a lot. Maybe I'll have another look tomorrow, too.
I like the photos of Suwon that are framed by taking the shots from inside the fortress. Nice that we still have these historical sites so close to large cities.
I do like the natural frame. But a lot of the best places are occupied with people just looking. That's fine, every so often I find an empty one and get photos. I'm still trying to get a shot of the tourist balloon through a hole, but that could be difficult because most point downward.
The nice thing about fortresses is they are difficult to accidentally destroy and are generally built to last. Seoul used to have walls around it, but they were removed in the early 1900s to make way for modern roads and tram lines. There are still walls on some of the hills. Actually all sorts of cities removed their walls and put in ring roads or rails. It's a shame really because the cities that kept it all look great.
Holy cow man! I need to go to Hwaseong Fortress before I die. Such a beautiful and vintage place. Were you on vacation or do you live in Korea? Regards bro!
I live in Korea. I've been there like 50 times, but I'm still impressed whenever I go. I also find new things whenever I go and try to visit during all seasons to notice the changes.
So beautiful posting
Hellow! Thank you kindly, Sir!
Nice place it seems
Yes, thank you!
Hopefully the site will be maintained and survive because it has become a very good history.
It was restored around 30 years ago because it sustained damage over the years and especially during the war.
Now it is protected by UNESCO, so if anything, I have a feeling it will be even better restored and preserved.
大开眼界
Thank you
Awesome shots. I need to go and visit Korea again and do some site-seeing so I can get some cool shots like these.
There are walls on so many of the mountains in and around Seoul, too. The nice thing is if you pick a decent route you can start and stop at a train station or at least a frequent bus stop.
Amazing... great post
Thank you kindly!
What a wonderful trip with historical value and so much detail, another excellent visual story, well framed photography!
Outstanding views, imagine what this must have looked like before city was built, farming in the valley with panorama in all directions.
If I remember correctly in days gone by, homes of royalty, forts or places with defense structures, no one was allowed to build higher.
Invasions over the years make some countries extraordinary in history which you have shared showing past and present.
