I am not a beach person. They are nice and all, but I am just bored there since I don't really like to fry in the sun and I am a terrible swimmer :p. I so much more prefer mountains or woods, where I can spend hours walking and enjoying the shadow of the trees.
But once in a while (not too often and not in a high season), it is nice to feel the sand under your feet and the freezing cold water of the ocean. Yes - this is nice.
It is even nicer when there are not too many people around, which happened on this beach.
Lagoas de Santo André is a natural reserve that is further away from big towns (and Lisbon) and I think mainly locals go there with some rare exceptions. It must be a nice place for surfers, but on that day there were none. Probably in winter they get better waves.
I noticed that the sand there is rougher than on other beaches I went to this year. Still nice and clean though.
The main reason we went there was to (wet our feet in the ocean) check on the Lagoon. I have been there before, many years ago, and I remember it being a lot smaller. I am not sure if it actually was and, over time it extended, or if it was enlarged by humans. Or if I remember just a part of it.
It is an absolutely beautiful spot. You see the ocean on one side and huge, blue, calm water on the other side of the beach.
Here is a Google Maps image so you can get a better picture of it (must I get a drone)?

There have been some controversies this year regarding the Lagoon. The lagoon is connected to the ocean by a narrow corridor. This way, the water can come in and out with the tides. This little corridor is closed for the winter, and then in spring it is opened again by pushing the sand to the sides, making it easy for the water to flow.
This year, for some reason it was not open. I heard that the city hall tried to do it a few times, but the sand was cumulating in that spot closing it. Is it true - I don't know. What is strange that it worked for so many years and this year it doesn't work?
The closed exit resulted in very murky water in the lagoon. Instead of getting fresh water from the ocean, it is now like a warm, shallow pond with a large amount of green algae.
I just hope it is not going to mess up the whole ecosystem there too much.

The sea is beautiful, I love it, and I prefer it early in the morning, or an hour or two before the sun goes down.
It's true that I wish it didn't have sand... (nothing is perfect) 😅
With the heat here in Cuba and the punishing sun, mountains and river sound much better.
Yea, the evenings on the beach are great when it cools down and gets dark.
Here it has been terribly hot too. It is cooking down now and feels so much better!
I´m more a beach person, most likely because I do surf but I love the mountains and woods as well. Problem, Portugal especially the Algarve doesn´t really have a forest. Thats something I really miss when we´re there.
wao the beach is very clean @ewkaw
It was! Not even many shells or stones there. Pretty unusual :)
And no rubbish at all!
Lembro-me de uma canção de Roberto Leal que os meus pais costumavam cantar: Lisboa não seja francesa, com toda a certeza não vai ser feliz.... ❤️
How are you dear friend @ewkaw good afternoon
Although I like the beach, I am like you, I like to visit in low season, I like serenity, tranquility and see the landscape in the distance in the sea
It is incredible that the lagoon was connected to the ocean, I don't think I have ever seen a lagoon with these characteristics
I hope that what they have done, be it people or nature, does not affect the well-being of the lagoon
Beautiful photographs, I appreciate that you have shared with us
I wish you a beautiful weekend
There are few lagoons like that around and all worth seeing. Nice, calm water closet to the ocean.
I hope so too :)
Have a nice day!
Very beautiful post!! I can understand you, I wasn’t a big fan of the beach some years ago, and the sand under my feet was not super nice to feel. But now, I’m not sure why, this changed completely. I love the beach, the sun and the sand! Hehe.
Amazing shots!!
Maybe it will chance for me too one day :) who knows...
As for now I would sooner go for a walk in the woods than the beach.
Thank you! :D
definitely :p
ocean... now I want to go again to the ocean...
Haha :D
We have been thinking about it for a while now, just didn't happen yet.
Come to mama! :D
😂
I hope it doesn't also, because it will be a mess.
Oh yes it will. Would be a pity to destroy it.
Ohhh ! with this heat so strong, I would like to be there right now, what a beautiful landscape you share with us, it is a very beautiful place by day and by night, that sunset, it is very romantic.
The freezing cold ocean water does help. It has been extremely hot here too last week. I hope the autumn is close :)
Glad you like the place.
Amazing sunny shots @ewkaw friend! ;)
Have a great weekend!

Thanks a lot :)
You too!
A pleasure for me to contemplate these beautiful photos @ewkaw friend!... I see that your Nikon and your 105mm have stayed at home this time ;) ... There are no beautiful mushrooms on that lovely beach probably!... :) But you have also taken these bright, very eloquent and visually attractive shots with your mobile!... You're an integral photographer friend!... Bravo!

Hehe well spotted! :D Yes I just took a phone with me. Didn't want to carry heavy gear this time.
The are around the lagoon has some trees, I am sure I could find mushrooms there late fall or early spring. Not now though.
For me, going to the beach for some time is a relaxing feeling. I feel so relax touching the water and walking on the seashore.
This beach is wonderful, best to have a little walk in the fine sand.
I know what you mean :) I like the waves sound too.
Maybe some YouTuber who manages to connect two bodies of water just by digger a small trench can come there and try to open the lagoon. Another additional workforce for the city hall. hahah
the green murky water might drive the beachgoer away from the lagoon, maybe more into the beach this time.
Apparently they tried to do it, but it got blocked by the sand again... that's what I heard anyway.
I agree about the beach. I love it when I am the only person there, during moments when others would say the weather is not beach weather. Then the ocean is gorgeous. Taking the kids to the ocean was a nightmare of work to get there, be there, get home, and then several days of trying to rid my house of sand everywhere.
I would love to swim in that lagoon during a good year though. I'll bet that is wonderful.
Once I was there around February. It was damn cold, windy and only one more person, besides me, walking the dog was in sight. It was amazing! :D
Oh the sand all over the place after... grrr :p
People were swimming there now too. There are parts very shallow so for kids it is pretty safe. And now ocean waves. Maybe they don't get bothered much by the algae.
But I remember the previous time the water was clean and fresh. So much nicer. I could also see lots of tiny fish and crabs, which was almost impossible now.
Beach is a nice place for a visit . I hope that the Lagoon will be recovered soon.
I hope so too :)
Wow! Lovely sea and blue sky! I do miss the sea too. Good to have the beach to yourself.
It was a nice day... hope you get to see the sea soon :)
I have got a few invitation to stay at friend’s condo by the seaside. But the thought of having to drive for three hours to get there just put me off! I have to find my magic carpet!😂

Oh how I understand you. I also do not like beaches, sunbathing, where there are a lot of people and all that, but I like to visit the beaches at the end of October, when there is no one, but there is fog.
A nice place in the photo, I think you can sit there alone, listen to the sound of the waves, remember pleasant moments from life, and just take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. Very nice photos.

I don't like to go to the beach to swim either but when I do I take a few pictures and I live in a very tropical country with many beaches but there are also many places with mountains. Greetings !

Lovely photos. I do not like the beach during the summer either. I used to go because of my kids but prefer other seasons.
Pity about the closed exit. I hope that it will not be the same next year.
