"I wouldn't mind going vegan as long as I will be eating food from Anahaw."
Those were the words of my girlfriend, Jen, after taking her first bite.
So What is Anahaw? Where is Anahaw? Why Anahaw?
They opened last February of 2021. They serve very delicious vegan food. Yes, no meat on their menu.
But you've got to try EAT(pun intended). You will forget your love of meat.
On top of that (well because it is also one of the cafes), is their yoga studio. I may not be a yogi but I can say the place is perfect for yoga. Anahaw has a very peaceful environment for yoga. They offer regular yoga sessions and open mat sessions for members.
Instagram. If you're in Dauin or neighboring municipalities, you may want to book your yoga class at https://anahawdauin.com/booking or you can drop a direct message on their
Anahaw is located in La Independencia St., Poblacion District I, Dauin, Negros Oriental. Dauin is a 30-minute ride from Dumaguete City.
Why Anahaw?
Sophia has had an Anahaw plant before. While thinking about the name, they wanted something easy for people to remember and very Filipino-friendly. Thus, Anahaw. I forgot to ask Sophia about this one but good thing @asasiklause knows too, since he worked their before.
Trivia Time! Did you know that Anahaw is the national leaf of the Philippines? Now you know.
But really, why Anahaw?
Even with our short experience in Anahaw, I can feel that it's the perfect place for your health and wellness.
If you happen to visit Dumaguete City, don't forget to include Anahaw in your itinerary.
Photos were also posted on my Facebook page Tan-awa Bai and Instagram.
I would like to thank Sophia and Tom, John, and Brandon for the warm welcome. I would also like to thank @asasiklause for introducing Anahaw to us.
Your photos are always stunning, @tanawabai! I am not a vegan, but looking at these photos makes them look really delicious. 😊
Apologies for the very late response. Lately lang jd na stable among net heheThank you @queenmeiko22.
The Photos are stunning, that being said you cannot go Vegan for a day. Veganism is not a diet people often misunderstand that and the industry is pretty much usurping the term at this point. In truth however veganim is actually a philosophy that is rooted in animal rights that includes a plant based diet. So food can be vegan as well as the general diet as it is in accordance with veganism but unless you subscribe to the philosophy itself you are not vegan if that makes sense.
There are people that go vegan mainly because they care about their health.
I actually look it up on wikipedia:
And when you follow the philosophy of Veganism that means you cannot use any products that uses any animal products at all. You're telling me you don't have any animal products at all in your place or any of your clothes or personal stuff?
The author stated he went vegan for a day, and this is isn't because he wants to claim that he is a Vegan, it's part of creative writing.
He even added "I can feel that it's the perfect place for your health and wellness." So, clearly his main message to his reader focuses on wellness and health and not the deep principles of veganism or what you so called philosophy.
So, wether you go vegan because of the philosophy or the food diet you are called a Vegan.
Yes I have no animal product in my home I have been Vegan for the last 13 years also you might want to look at the vegan society's page the people who actually invented veganism instead of wiki . I do not wear sheep's wool wool , leather silk ect. I do not use medication that has animal components , I take a lot of time researching products, reading ingredient lists and making sure they were not tested on animals. And Again people do not go Vegan for their health they go plant based, veganiam's main pillar is animal rights not human health. the vegan society defines veganism as follows :
a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of humans, animals and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals.
Here is the complete history
I did not mention this to make myself look perfect( I am not as there are things we cannot avoid sometimes like the animal fat in car tires for example ) - I mentioned this because a Plant based diet is becoming increasingly popular for many valid reasons, but usurping the term vegan once again puts animals in a disadvantage because the truth about their life in slavery, the torture they endure under our rule once again is wiped out in favour of humanity's focus on themselves. I went plant based for animals, before that i was vegitarian since the age of 12 , again for animals so yeah I will point out when their suffering once again is bing slowly hidden from view. And mind you read the response of the author of this piece he actually agrees with me!
Thank you @tygertyger. I agree. But what I meant to portray was that I subscribed to that philosophy for a day because of how deliciously they prepared their vegan meals. It's somewhat like a metaphor. Correct me if I'm wrong to use that kind of metaphor.
I get your point. But does it really matter??
I think its more importent to celebrate someone who tries instead of correct them wethwr they use the term vegan og plantbased. Not a biggy for me though :)
It matters because the more popular a plant based diet becomes the more animals and their suffering are taken out of the picture. You have a ton of very popular proper in society claiming they are vegan but then they wear leather, promote products tested on animals and who often then turn their back on a plant based diet and are seen eating a huge steak a few weeks later. Veganism is about ending animal exploration and if we erase their plight from the tern created to make it visible we are doing them a disservice it is not about celebrating another human it is abut ending what horrible things we do to non humans.
It is great that they are trying but think for a minute if the victims were human and human children would we still be celebrating a solitary effort or saying that it is nice but that more needs to be done ?
I am so happy that I ain't as crazy as you when it comes to termology xD
I have been Vegan for 2 years now, started out by only caring about the health benefits.
So every step is worth a celebration in my head :D
I am glad I can hold a conversation without insults, unlike you - LOL! You are entitled you your opinion but you made my point apparent with the above statement. You went plant based for yourself thus animals are not important in your equation or are just becoming important. Do you avoid wool, leather animal ingredients in health and beauty products? Do you avoid honey all these things are part of being vegan not only the diet.
Not sure "crazy" is an insult, depends on how you feel about the word I guess :D
I have been avoiding all of that ever since I went vegan when I buy stuff :)
But do I have clothes which is more than 2 years old? Yes. Some of it might contain wool, I don't know.
I don't think its important what you wear, its more importent what you buy from the point you went vegan and on :)
Also, no need for honey. I have maple syrup :p
don't think its important what you wear
I disagree if you wear leather, fur ect you give people the idea that it is ok to do so. I at this point even have been avoiding faux fur (even though i love it ) because people are stupid and think it justifies them wearing the real thing ). Of course if you already have the stuff it no longer really hurts the poor animal but it's the perception that makes it a problem. People tend to try to pinpoint anything that justifies their bad behaviour sadly, i refuse to give them a reason ...
Yes, being Vegan is a life philosophy and it about the care we should all have toward animals
@lifewithera what are you waiting for?hahaha

Veganism is something useful for our body, for our mind and for our Earth too.
I had a Webinar a few days ago where I was asked if Bitcoin mining was really polluting as they make us believe.
Well I then created a comparison, where meat consumption (for the sole eating purpose) is almost 100 times more polluting than Bitcoin mining. BUT, meat is not required from our body in such quantity and intensive are no-way innovating anything. They are just exploiting animals and intoxicating human bodies. Bitcoin mining represent in some forms, a way of evolution of banking and technology.
What is non conceivable, IMHO, is how much meat and other food is wasted every day.
When I was attending University in Padua (Italy) a statistic led to a 100-500kg of wasted food every day just from the Universitary canteens. So, how much resources were required to grow that food? How many people could still be fed with that food, that could not be used because of strange rules upon food conservation and transportation?
Thank you for the enlightenment.
Dear @tanawabai, you have greatly enjoyed your travels. I wish I could visit Dumaguete soon. I love the place and especially the food.
