Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to talk about the benefits of doing things on our own.
Automatic And Manual
Lately I've been trying to do a lot more things on my own, and it's been pretty enjoyable!
I've been following the Curangel voting trail for a few years at this point. It really helps keep my voting power at manageable levels, considering I do sleep and I work a fair bit.. Lately though, I've been doing a lot of manual voting - my voting power has been staying at a great level and I get to reward people pretty well!
With the healthy increase in Hive Power I've enjoyed, crossing 45k this past month, that means that I'm able to have a much stronger vote than I did this time last year and even just a few months ago. This build up has been a really great thing to experience, and it also is a good thing to be able to distribute to others.
With the building of my Hive Power, it means I'm changing my strategies a little bit. I was one that would vote low percentages to a lot of people across the posts I would find. I still do that sometimes, but only if they are posts in the communities that I run. Otherwise I have been restricting my voting habits to the people that I know are not abusing the system!
This has translated into giving a lot more people 75% or 100% votes than I have in a really long time. I was only dishing out those votes when I was a newbie and had zero idea of what was going on, and just voting the shit out of stuff until my power was completely gone. That's a fun thing to remember haha.
These days, I try to save my voting power and keep it around 94% or so, but I will bring it as low as 90% if I'm trying to get a few votes in before bed. This makes it interesting because I get to dish out some fat votes, give out some decent Hive rewards to folks, and get a pretty nice return myself.
With doling out these higher votes, I've noticed that the returns are coming in stronger unless the person gets a few down votes. That certainly nullifies the rewards which kind of sucks, but in some cases I get it. Thankfully the people that I am voting for these days aren't in that cohort of peeps who would normally get a down vote so I'm good there.
Having the mixture of manual voting plus automatic voting has been a really fun experience for me. I get to let the system do what it does, so that I never get to 100% voting power and lose out on curation rewards, but at the same time I have it at a healthy level where I can have some fun in the evenings or in the mornings if I want and throw out some votes to let the stuff recharge the rest of the day. Not a bad blend, if I do say so myself!
As time goes on, I may reduce my percentage of Curangel voting trail so that I can increase my daily voting habits. That might never happen, but as I get more Hive Power added to my account, you never know what could happen!
What about you, do you enjoy manually curating content? Let me know in the comments!

I first of all, thought you were talking about Guns xD
Then I saw your pictures and I thought you talked about capturing pictures..
But you did in fact talk about voting patterns xD
I follow Hivepakistan's trail and have been doing that for some years aswell, so my VP don't hit 100%, but I still do reward people mostly comments or snaps right now though.
Regardless of what my VP % is :D
I guess I tripped a few people up with this one :D
Ah an automatic gun would be a lot of fun! I’ve never shot one sadly but would like to one day!
The cool think is there are a lot of great voting trails that we can follow. Eventually when my power gets strong enough I’ll switch to a lesser curation group and give them the benefit but still do my own blended thing.
Haha, ye I can see I wasn't the only one :D
Says the guy with 45,656.124 HP xD
But ye I get it.
I just follow trails so I don't have to manual vote, I don't have time for that xD
But I also just vote for things manual when I have time, I don't pay that much attention to my VP, as long as its not at 100% :D
Hivepakistan also follows curangel trail when our mana reaches 98%.
But it rarely happens.
I must confess, when I saw the title, I thought you were going to talk about cars.
Thinking about it, maybe there should be a conversation on automatic and manual cars, the pros and cons....
But back to your conversation about curating, personally, I find that curating manually gives you a personal touch, helps you get close to the author a bit more and the amount of upvote is dependent on how moved you are by the post.
Some posts deserve more upvotes than others, subjectively speaking.
Haha I love driving a manual car! I actually want to get another one really badly but sadly they don't make them as much anymore which sucks! I have found that Toyota still does it for a lot of cars which is good.
I did throw a few people for a loop with the title :D
I like the blend of manual versus automatic. It works well for me given my situation and time constraints.
I dont know why you do, but manual cars seem to be a lot more tasking. Having to think of each gear and stepping on the clutch everytime is exasperating for me
I think in the days of everything being automated and our subconscious brain taking over, it’s important to have things we do on our own. I think if more people drove manual cars there would be less accidents because you have to be more mentally present in the act of driving versus an automatic.
I agree...
Manual cars cause you to be present in the action of driving. However, like the steam engine they are gradually phasing out.
in a few years, we would be talking about self driving cars taking over our streets.
I always manually curate content because I think it's better to control who to give my "precious" votes to, and not leave it other curators to do that on my behalf. But that means spending more time reading posts on Hive, versus "outsourcing" the voting. I guess to each his own, and there's no right or wrong.
Yeah it's all based on the situation of the person. I don't have the time to do it all day and keep my voting power staying below 100% without automatic help. Not a bad situation to be in at least!
I am glad that you do and enjoy mania curation!
Lol, I confess I never noticed your hive power. We only ever interact with Punday Monday, but here you are in my feed. I decided years ago worrying about my voting power wasn't worth it. Folks will get the upvote that I can give! I guess if I had a million power, maybe that'd matter more.
Haha yeah I've been a little absent from punday Monday sadly! Not in the right mindset at the moment for coming up with jokes. Hoping to get back to that soon though dude!
I don't go nuts except that I make sure to not get to 100% so I'm not wasting my potential voting power.
I think you can also try to push it down to 85% so you can squeeze in some more Curation rewards for yourself, especially when you're doing manual curation.
Yeah I do occasionally get down into the 80's but I don't go below 89. I think I have hive.vote set to stop at 90% if I recall.
I know I may get more curation rewards in the short term but long term I don't like having it that low which is odd I guess lol
Yeah I understand, but I think the end game is to get as many curation rewards as possible as the market is already beginning to heat up. However, your strategy is also good
It seems that Give and take stratety was applicable to this post.
Indeed it is!
