The police chief of a Minneapolis suburb said Monday he believes one of the department's officers wanted to use a Taser but mistakenly drew her service weapon before she fatally shot a Black man point-blank during a traffic stop the day before.
Not even going to try to get a quote from the officer that actually did the deed huh? Cool story, bro.
Woof
The video appeared to show Wright getting out of his car and then getting back in as officers tried to apprehend him on an undisclosed outstanding misdemeanor warrant that they discovered after they pulled him over in a traffic stop.
As Wright got back into his car, a female voice could be heard shouting "Taser!" before Wright was shot, video appeared to show.
That same female voice could be heard saying, "Holy s--- I just shot him," as the car pulled away, police said.
So maybe it was an accident.
Accidents happen.
But somehow they don't happen to white people very often.
Go figure.
Wright called his mother, Katie Wright, asking for the car's insurance information shortly after he was pulled over, she told reporters Sunday. She said police had pulled him over for having an air freshener hanging from his rearview mirror, which is illegal in Minnesota.
Classic case of killed over air-freshener.
Nothing to see here, boys! Pack it up!
"The ACLU-MN has deep concerns that police here appear to have used dangling air fresheners as an excuse for making a pretextual stop, something police do all too often to target Black people," the statement continued. "The warrant appears to be for a non-felony."
Doesn't really matter what the warrant was for.
I bet they wish it was for a serious crime though so it would be easier to sweep this one under the rug. There are a lot of variables at play here, too numerous to go over or even fully understand. The systemic blight of racism in America has a lot of different facets.
"While we await a full investigation, we know what we need to do to move forward: rebuild trust and ensure accountability so no one is above the law," Biden said.
LOL @ "no one is above the law". Did your puppeteers instruct you to say that, you known police-state boot-licking pig? Christ almighty.
No more trust: fuck you.
Honestly it blows my mind that we are so early in the crypto game that groups like Black Lives Matter don't have their own currency. Controlling your own currency and being your own central bank is the absolute foundation and freedom required to "rebuild trust and ensure accountability". Someone let Lord Biden know, would ya?
Look at me, sitting in the safety of my living room, watching number go up as dark-skinned folk get gunned down in the street for no reason. Like, they need help guys. Pretty gross honestly, but whatcha gonna do? I'm no hero.
First thing I did when I saw this story was look at tasers.
Seriously how much does that thing weigh?
https://nypost.com/2021/04/12/taser-vs-gun-how-do-brooklyn-center-cops-wear-their-weapons/
For instance, a fully loaded Glock handgun — which is typically carried by officers — weighs in excess of 34 ounces, according to the gunmaker’s home page.
By comparison, a Taser stun gun weighs 8 ounces, the company’s site said.
So legit a taser weighs x4.25 less than the standard-issue handgun, it's painted yellow, has a completely different grip, and is holstered on the left hip. If this was an accident, that is quite a colossal fuckup. The officer had plenty of time to realize she was not wielding the correct weapon.
Of course perhaps her taser wasn't yellow. Can you imagine that? Being shot dead because someone wanted a cooler color than yellow? These things happen; this is real life.
Unfortunately we don't pay cops enough. They have the authority to legally kill people and we employ cowards and power-tripping assholes to these positions. COPs should not be nervous: they should be ready to die at all times while they serve and protect. Obviously this is not the case. Their training is lacking, at best, and purposefully exploitative at worst.
White Boy Rick Documentary
I need to do a separate post on this, but the prevailing theme of that post is going to be pretty simple: the judicial system is a subjective racist joke. If you kill someone important you get in more trouble than if you kill "street trash" or "hoodrats" or whatever the fuck they say these days.
Plain and simple, these "mistakes" do not happen with white people, and when they do the law comes down much harder depending on skin color. The 'judicial' system tries to act like they are impartial: the entire system is subjective and corrupt.
I've linked this video a few times as the best legal advice anyone will ever get: shut the fuck up. Never talk to any authority that has the power to incriminate you in a crime. They'll do it.
What I've failed to mention three times now is the pig that starts talking around minute 27. This is an old video, but it doesn't matter, that cop is racist as hell and you can tell just by the way he talks that he targets black people with flagrant abuses of justice and lets white people off scot free. I guarantee it.
33:30
There's a number of types of people that I deal with.
36:15
I had a sexual assault case. I had to talk to the guy how hot the woman was and I understand where he was coming from. When I said that: we were buds and he started talking to me.
The other side is I can't try and act like that individual acts. I can't try and act... what we call 'lovingly'... a 'hoodrat'. I can't try and act and talk like him... because... I'm an older white guy...
Holy motherfucking dumpster fire.
I didn't know 'lovingly' was a synonym 'racistly'.
Fucking pigs.
And then the third type: The one who tries to be 'the hood' who tries to be the criminal... who cries like a baby when they walk into jail but when they're on the streets their as tough as rocks.
... there's an unlevel playing field here.
Yeah, no shit.
Plus you're racist and sexist and toxic and have a ridiculous amount of power over other people that you shouldn't have. It's subtle but it's all there in all its disgusting glory.
41:25
There are some very smart "street criminals" out there as well, they get other people to do their bidding for them... and people are afraid to turn on them.
Hint: He's not talking about white people here. In the previous sentence he talks about how the biggest criminals wear a suit and tie... hm... yep. Guess which kind he puts in jail?
And guess what?
I'm not some SJW parrot just repeating the same old left-wing rhetoric. I think for myself, Thanks. And to that end I have some very extreme opinions that run completely contrary to what any liberal would tell you.
I have a lot more stuff written here but I'm gonna have to save it for another post because it devolves into some seriously problematic shit. Gonna just cut to the conclusion here and try to mitigate the damages to my next post.
Analysis
Racism is an epidemic, and there is no known cure. Liberals think they are helping by putting a band-aid on a festering wound and then giving themselves a pat on the back. Good job guys, ya did it! Barf.
Make no mistake, tribalism is everywhere. Humanity has been failing to scale for quite some time. Trust is in extremely short supply and clans turtle up and protect their own, even at the cost of other tribes (often times on purpose). So far, this has been the way of the world.
I've been thinking a lot about what one of my friends told me years ago when I first got into crypto: "Well... it's not like crypto is a silver bullet... it can't solve everything." It was easy to agree with him at the time, but honestly now it kind of feels like actually yes: crypto can solve everything. It's a massive upgrade to all financial and governance infrastructures. These upgrades just haven't materialized yet, but we are slowly getting closer.
Saying crypto can't solve everything now is kinda like saying the Internet can't solve everything in the 90's. Seriously, what can the Internet do in the context of 1995? Send an email? Now look at what the Internet can do, and crypto is just a subset of the Internet: a subset that is potentially worth x1000 more value than the platform it's built on. The evolution continues.
Clearly: the solution to inequality is not going to be found within the legacy economy.
That much is obvious. Maybe one day I'll get to live in a country that doesn't murder citizens for the crime of driving while black.

Seems like if they just left people alone, a lot of these issues would go away.
It’s very clear to me, that many Police are under trained for the power and responsibility they are allowed to have, in American Society.
It is also very clear, that racism is a factor in these killings, which is obvious to many, but continues to be denied by some, and it is this denial which partially allows it to continue.
It is a basic construct that the first step in dealing with a problem is recognizing it exists.
It is ironic that @nonameslefttouse provided such compelling evidence of the two tiered system of justice. I mean can anyone really imagine a person of color surviving a confrontation with the Police while armed with an assault weapon?
Your comment:
This is very illustrative of the problem.
Lethal encounters for non-felony stops are inexcusable in most countries regardless of skin color to start with, but in addition, lethal encounters with unarmed people are a huge failure of the system on all levels.
I think you hit the nail on the head, poor training, little accountability and racism, sexism and/or ignorance combined with guns and the freedom to stop people for any reason equals very poor outcomes.
The Founding Fathers Words fall on deaf ears... We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights...including freedom and the pursuit of happiness.
The infamous American Bill of Rights guarantees Americans many basic rights, but it is meaningless unless our Police are trained to respect the Bill of Rights for all citizens.
Your other idea about people of color controlling their currency as a pathway to power deserves a post of its own, as it could be the pathway to freedom for both whites and people of color who are all oppressed by this current system.

Yeah cryptocurrency will be the base in which we can build trustless systems between different economies.
The sooner a crypto that supports black people comes out the better...
but that really goes the same for all communities.
Those videos I shared had nothing to do with race. I picked some random videos showing how people put these cops in life or death situations, showing how it can happen out of the blue. The reason I shared videos is because he called these people cowards. You yourself say they need better training, but how much training would have changed the outcomes in those videos? Twisting my intention out of context to suit this narrative, that's a low blow.
Ha look at that someone misinterpreted what you posted on accident in the exact way I did it on purpose.
And now you accuse them of doing it on purpose as well.
Ya tilted! Gotcha!
That's gotta be some kind of irony.
Unfortunately it is not.
It's ironic in the way that people always use the word incorrectly.
No wait maybe it is ironic because you wouldn't have made the mistake if I said nothing.
Nope my brains are scrambled eggs now.
"Compelling evidence" and "I mean can anyone really imagine a person of color surviving a confrontation with the Police while armed with an assault weapon?"
That's what's known as 'sensationalism'.
I enjoy watching a lot of law enforcement content, including encounters people record. A quick search brings up stuff like this.
Enjoy your 'gotcha moment'. I'm fine.
And I just noticed your comment came before his comment but before I got a chance to clarify. So your intentional misinterpretation may have played a role. Classic game of misdirection. Make people look one way, so that's the way they look. The media like to do that a lot, too.
Nah being a troll has lost its fun one of these days I'll stop going through the motions.
I find myself on the outside of nearly every echo chamber in existence. If you think trolls have it bad. Try being a freak.
It's pretty clear this was an accident. However, if you can make a mistake like this, you shouldn't be a cop. And people shouldn't be pulled over for stupid crap like air fresheners.
I hate to see the immediate reaction that it's racism though. I don't know how many 'I accidentally used my gun instead of a taser' shootings there are of any race but plenty of other races get shot too. In fact, as many as twice the number of whites are shot each year as blacks. You just don't hear about that because it's not as good for ratings.
Having said that, when you consider the numbers on a per capita basis, blacks are shot at nearly twice the rate of whites. On the other hand, whites are shot at nearly twice the rate of Asians. Are police racist against whites in support of Asians? Probably not. I don't think this is as much about race directly as it is rich vs. poor. Or at least poor vs not poor. Poor neighborhoods tend to have more crime. This leads to a greater police presence and more opportunities for these kinds of things to happen. Many poor neighborhoods are predominantly black. There are a variety of reasons for this with racism, especially past racism and the continued fallout from that being one component. Point being that I don't believe that in most cases in which a black person is shot that the cop was necessarily racist.
But in addition to rethinking stupid ass laws about air fresheners and other laws designed to be able to pull people over just to check things out, can we also say it's incredibly stupid to run from the police? In almost every single instance (including this one it appears) where a shooting happens, regardless of race, the victim had at some point been struggling with or running from the police. I'm not saying that justifies taking someone's life. It does not. But when that happens, you are putting law enforcement in a difficult position. Fear, adrenaline, anger.... all natural consequences and a bad combination that makes mistakes and poor reactions all that much more likely.
There are problems here but if they aren't accurately identified then the problems can't be fixed. Accusing the cop of being racist while sometimes accurate often is not and when it is not, such accusations are counterproductive.
The issue of class does often supersede the race issue.
Poor people are more desperate, and desperate people do desperate things.
I'm not even sure if anyone is accusing the officer of being racist.
The entire system is racist, and she's just a tiny cog in the broken machine.
Well, the OP stated these mistakes don't happen to white people which to me implies racism by the cop making the mistake. I'm pretty sure there have been plenty of racism accusations.
As far as the system itself being racist, how so? What could be done to make it less racist? What explains whites getting shot at twice the rate of Asians on a per capita basis? Systemic racism too?
That's a really disappointing question.
Kinda like if I was trying to have a conversation about physics and someone was like:
Yeah but how can we be sure 2+2=4?

This stuff barely scratches the surface.
Multiply by x100 to get an idea of what we are dealing with.
How sad I felt and read keenly to the end.
How easy and possible it is to incriminate innocent people, look at prison population. Its so saddening.
People around here feel like leaving this country for greener pastures elsewhere but with situations like this, I thinks its best everyone grow their economy and make home like another abroad for everyone...
I wish everyone a safe abode out of troubles or mistake shot as this.
I must commend your assessment of the situations, maybe looking at it from every perspective as this can also shed more light into every investigations.
This is really serious. Many Africans see the western world as an Oasis. But the media these days is scaring the shit out of us. And those awe we had when we thought of the US is deminishing.
Not only do the whites have problem with rhe black blacks have issues with the black. Black Americans don't want to associate with Africans. When they see us in the streets, they show daylight hatred for the race. Turns out the internalised negrophobia in the black Americans is still very much alive.

Didn't realize this was a thing.
Racism is SICK.
But it washes hands. It makes others' money. It keeps ppl closed-minded and keeps hate and separation between people. It helps the gun merchandisers...there are benefits to racism, diabolic ones...
Upvoted, reblogged and I feel sorry for people living in the USA.

When I read that excuse about mistaking the gun for a taser I just stared in disbelief. Really? Really??
Either it was a poor excuse to coverup what really happened, or it points to bad training.
The media is already trying to make this a left/right issue, but it's not. Everyone should be mad as hell at these killings, at this abuse of police power.
As you said..
I watched the full body cam video, this is a pretty serious topic. Racism is not an epidemic because it is a constant burden for as long as human writings go back, therefore it has to be taken on as what it is - part of our failed nature. It goes in all directions and is not limited to skin color alone.
We are fallen creatures in the urban jungles of the 21th Century, all people are! All shades of brownish-grey skin-colored hairless asylum seekers of this earth. I hate this black/white nonsense talk and it is pure evil. The opposite of racism is not anti-racism, it's compassion. Accept that suffering is part of life for everyone and treat each other with respect and dignity. But how do 'young' people of today even explain the value of each and every human life if they don't believe in a divine soul anymore?
Just another routine traffic stop...
And here's one of those "cowards" you mentioned:
Ha, stupid monkeys still using their silly projectile weapons.
How barbaric
Thanks for fueling the fire here and proving my point.
4 videos: 4 white people shooting at cops.
White people get to shoot first.
Maybe they should put that in the second amendment.
What makes you think the videos are about white people or race in general?
Do you see police, regardless of race, having to make decisions within split seconds. One guy pops out and shoots a cop for no reason. Another guy pops out and pulls a gun for no reason. The old man at the gas station, suffering from mental illness, pulls a gun for no reason. You called them cowards. What you call a coward ran into a house and got shot. The last one is just a woman standing there, suddenly pulls a gun nobody even expected.
"White people get to shoot first." Is that really your brain thinking?
Racism is everywhere and I see it daily with black on white so it is not a one sided affair. Neither is right and nothing will change as it is passed on from generation to generation and maybe slowly will eradicate itself. Sad when you see youngsters thinking it is cool to be racist as they most likely learned it from their parents. Having grown up in the Apartheid era people call things racist when they actually aren't and make things worse. There is so much wrong with society today and it wont improve.

Yah I love being called bati boy jamaican slang
bomboclaat, among other spellings. Seriously this post so SJW It's an insulting vulgarity that literally refers to either menstrual pads or toilet paper. So Black people in Jamaica are apparently homophobic and sexist! WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT! But systemic racism.. that's the flavor of the year.
The whole society thing is just so wrong as colour should not be a thing. People are labelled and it is systematic racism. Many don't understand it yet jump on the band wagon which doesn't help.

"I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!"
Very sad state of affairs! Similar things happen with Muslims & other minorities in India. For Power & Money, people do such heinous crimes or take part in it indirectly.
I hope Crypto reaches everywhere because even I believe it can help us eradicate the primary issues. It's not just money, it's a mindset.

Very true point about the taser, hard to believe that the taser/gun switch accidently happened, even after hearing her screaming 'taser'. She even held it for a certain amount of time, that was not like a Clint Eastwood stand-off moment.
I think the biggest issue is that the police needs more training and accountability. I agree the system is broken as we need a way to balance the safety of everyone involved. Not to mention how some of the laws are outdated.
Given what I have seen on the videos, I truly do believe it was an accident. I honestly don't know how the cop mistook a gun for a taser. The entire race issued being pulled out in this issue has probably made things much worst. A reasonable person knows we need cops but the current system does not work. Thus the current system needs reform.

That sucks. We also have that problem here in Brazil.
Inequality kills so many people on a daily basis worldwide.

With deep pains in ma heart, I feel like I could help the situation, ahh!!! Racism is eating us up
meh.. has there ever been a white kid shot at during a routine stop. I'm not saying it doesn't exist (black racism) and I'm not saying cops aren't racist; but systemic? In the system? Taught in the schools and government?
Ok it's tragic either way. Not discounting that.
I had to read this like 5 times just to understand it fully.
Being dismissive and wrong at the same time is super confusing.
So do you think we created two different phrases for a make-believe thing that doesn't exist?
I'm not your Google Bitch.
Look it up it's not hard.

Actually I thought I was being your google when I said it's NOT taught in the schools, its not taught with the laws of society, and it's certainly not in the criminal justice system. There are no laws specifically against blacks, there is no direct curriculum in school to hate children based on their creed, or color. So I have to disagree with you. I'm pretty sure I just quoted google for you.
Are people on the police force racist? Yes! Are there racists teachers? Yes!I do not believe for one second that 'implied' racism because of resumes to be more white is nothing more than cultural western society. I do see successful black people in suites.. so is it racist to assume they should be dressed like African's in Africa around a fire because they are "African american" What does that even mean after 3-4 generations.
