How do people on Twitter monetise their content?

There are no blockchain rewards to milk, but they're making bank?

How?

🤔

Sort:

Use it as a resource. I made damn good money from social media over the years.

What were some of your specific strategies?

I used it to advertise whatever I was doing by building interest through posts. One of my first Twitter accounts had over 40K followers. Talk about upcoming (online/offline) events, new projects, etc..

What happened to that account?

Even if what you were selling at the time is finished, surely it could be repurposed?

That audience has value! (the key I'm trying to get people to realise here!!)

It's still there, but down to < 20K followers last I looked. I changed 'focus' and went more towards the offline endeavors I was engaged in for a period of time.

The current value of the account is debatable.

I would argue that you could spend a bit of time re-engaging that audience and start selling to them again.

20K is a good list!

good question, bigger accounts can sell tweets to advertisers. Some accounts do paid post promotions on twitter. Some accounts are also paid outright to push some agenda, to write comments / posts promoting something.

Could someone do that here?

in principle yes, but the reach is probably not big enough to attract ads and paid posts I guess.

Look at the number of votes on the blogs in the leofinance.io trending sections.

You really don't think that's enough of an audience to monetise?

I'm afraid it will be difficult with the current numbers, but the potential is there.

I think it's the endorsement they are earning

Got an example?

I am not active in twitter actually but guessing from other social media, posting about a certain brand they are endorsing is one way. Either they are paid directly or earn thru affiliates.

Do you think you could employ that model here on Threads and earn money on top of your blockchain rewards?

ah, not a model but rather influencer.
My Blockchain rewards? I couldn't afford, lol.
Perhaps give another option like giving support.

People on Twitter use Patreon to do that.

You could do that here.

Oh, let me check about that 🙂

Sponsorships

Big accounts can do sponsorship deals.

But there are a ton of smaller accounts not whoring themselves out and monetising their web2 socials.

I follow quite a few small accounts and they get paid to advertise,by selling their own merch, donations and other ways, like through Patreon .They set up their own amazon stores and make a percentage selling other ppls products that way

There we go 👍

Selling branded merch and affiliate revenue.

Literally not a single person is doing that here!

Thats because the personalities here aren't offering anything people want. They want info, examples for how to live, hear what they are thinking themselves, but can't put it into words, etc. Most here just want easy-write lame shit and get paid

That's because the way to earn the most money on Hive is to be here a long time and get on autovoters.

Which only works on long form.

Those with stake are literally incentivising the behaviour that is detrimental to their investment

1-I know, that's why I never bothered here much. I signed up 7 years, but only put in real effort twice for 3 months each. It was too much like a job, while earning pennies, because I won't suck dick for votes.

2-It isn't about content, it's about relationship building

Some sell a lot of crappy courses

So everyone on leofinance is here to 'make money from writing online'.

Do you think someone could create a course and sell it for 10 HIVE?

1000 people at 10 HIVE is 10K HIVE for 1 piece of content.

Totally. Very few people see the true social aspect of Hive and its potential for monetization. It's all about chasing those fat votes

It all comes back to leo.voter incentivising the type of behaviour that is best for the platform/investors.

If the feed looks spammy (which it does), then I'd argue they need to change how they vote.

That too. But there are so many vote selling programs these days that I'm not sure leo.voter alone can help drive change

Subscriptions, paid content, consulting, sponsorships, ad revenue

All things we need / are in the process of adding to LeoFinance

We need to change the “I’m doing this only for the votes for 7 days” mindset

Won’t be overnight

But also my point is that Twitter itself doesn't allow people to monetise in that way.

They are creative enough to use a mix of external platforms to monetise their Titter audiene.

Something that people could do here.

Twitter has both subscriptions for $5 per month that pay the creator and ad checks (although limited to larger accounts)

Similar vibe on substack, pattern, YouTube, etc.

Yes, people can get creative but we shld provide tools & take a cut

Then use that cut to either buy/burn LEO or distribute checks to create a circular financial incentive

As a LEO investor, I'm just happy that your thinking is all about using the site to generate revenue and pumping it back into the LEO token.

Thank you.

that’s what it’s all about. Web2 enriched the Zuckerbergs of the world, web3 is here to do that for the users

Discussions like these remind me that we’re on the right long term path. It’s going to take a lot of time & effort but we’ll win!

Oh definitely if you can build that all into the platform, then I'm 100% behind it :)

1/There are users that have tried to use the web2 model here, but it's shunned upon. Dbroze is an example and @kennyskitchen got run off because his popular community @abundance.tribe supported him.

2/The problem? Those users aren't loyal to Hive(in the whales eyes), so shouldn't be earning here.

2/2 Then there are also corporate accounts. Check out the latest tweet from Nawfal for example, it is extremely pro X, it reads almost like an ad:

"Host of Twitter's largest spaces"

Lol, definitely has an incentive to promote the platform that holds the audience he monetises.
